StarCraft® II

For more than a thousand years, the Protoss of the Templar caste have defended their people, dedicating their long lives to the pursuit of martial perfection. Zealots are peerless warriors who have yet to ascend to the uppermost ranks of the Khala. Ever eager for advancement, they train for decades in hand-to-hand combat, tactics, pain tolerance, and martial discipline. Their formidable physiques are further enhanced by cybernetic implants and power suits. Zealots use their substantial psionic abilities to create blades of pure energy that serve as their primary melee weapons.

DATA MATRIX

These wrist-mounted devices enable the fierce warriors of Aiur to shape raw psionic power into deadly close combat weapons. By harnessing the Zealots’ violent psionic energies, Psi-Blade Focusers generate incandescent blades that can cut through any material regardless of density. Over time, the Khalai have further refined the focusers’ construction, allowing Psi-Blades to increase in power as the Zealot’s fury mounts in the heat of battle.
Ornate armored suits protect the Zealot legions from enemy onslaught. As is tradition, every warrior must undergo rigorous training and trials before he is allowed to don the battlegear of his station. Each suit is an individual work of art reverently crafted by the Khalai, who outfit it with a personal plasma shield generator, a vital signs monitor, and navigation tools. To finish their work, they set psionically calibrated crystal matrices on the armor’s gleaming surface.
The Protoss, a race whose numbers have diminished through the crucible of conflict, go to great lengths to minimize warrior casualties in battle. High Templar calibrate and infuse each of these exquisite gemstones—which allow critically injured Zealots to be warped back to the nearest safe point—with psionic energy. The life of every warrior is a precious resource that must be preserved at all costs.
Protoss use advanced cybernetics to save lives, and to increase their already formidable combat prowess. After distinguishing themselves in battle, Zealots receive complex leg augmentations that enhance their speed, mobility, and endurance. Their mighty strides take them to the front lines, where they usually draw first blood after surprising the enemy with a brutal charge.
The warriors of Aiur spend years honing their martial abilities, and complement them with a powerful psionic-emotional bond known as the Khala, which also contains the resonances of Protoss long departed. Zealots learn how to fine tune their connection to the Khala, and to channel this maelstrom of feelings into peaceful focus or unbridled rage. Their duty is to their people, and by mastering their emotions they can fight longer, harder, and better than any adversary who would dare stand in their way.

General Strategy

  • Light infantry unit that can attack ground targets.
  • This is the first military unit that Protoss can build; all you need is a Gateway.
  • Tough and hard-hitting, but expensive compared to other tier 1 units such as Marines.
  • Powerful combatants, their weakness is the time it takes them to reach their target. Susceptible to kiting as well.
  • Researching Charge will allow your Zealots to instantly close the gap to their target.
  • Can be warped into the battlefield quickly by means of a Warp Gate.
  • Increase their survivability to ranged attacks by having a Sentry with Guardian Shield.

Upgrades

  • Charge: Allows Zealots to automatically intercept nearby enemies, and is a passive increase to their movement speed.

Countermeasures

Terran VS
  • Reapers are very effective against Zealots due to their speed and damage.
  • Hellions excel against Zealots after you research the Infernal Pre-Igniter upgrade.
  • A mix of Marines and Marauders should do the job, but do not fight in the open.
Zerg VS
  • Roaches are a great counter to Zealots, especially if you research the movement speed upgrade.
  • Spawn an Infestor or two and cast Fungal Growth on the Zealots and use ranged units such as Hydralisks to pick them off.
Protoss VS
  • Build a force of Stalkers and kite the enemy Zealots.
  • Summon a few Sentries and fight the enemy at a spot where you could easily separate his troops with a well-placed Force Field.
  • Construct a few Colossi.
