What should I do if my account was compromised, and I'm missing items or characters?

If you believe your account to have been compromised, resulting in items, characters, or gold lost, please see our Account Compromise guide.

How can I prevent my account from getting compromised?

We've created a Security Checklist with a list of steps to take to ensure you are browsing and playing safely.  Please see the Security Checklist page for more info.

What should I do if my account is asking for authenticator, and I didn't attach one?

If an authenticator was attached without your permission, you will need to Contact Us.

What should I do if my account says it has been suspended or closed?

If you are receiving the message "Your account has been temporarily suspended," this means your account has been closed or suspended due to violations of the Terms of Use and/or World of Warcraft policy. Please check your registered email address for official correspondence from Blizzard Entertainment, as we may have already contacted you about the closure or suspension.

Please note that an account may be closed or suspended even if the violating actions are performed by an unauthorized party during a period of compromise. This process helps prevent additional exploitation. If you believe your account was closed or suspended as a result of a compromise, please proceed according to the information above and then refer to our Account Compromise page for a step-by-step guide on the account recovery process.

What do I do if someone whispers me saying my account may be suspended, or I get an email saying my account might b if I don't reply?

While Blizzard will contact a player to notify them of an account suspension, all official Blizzard Game Master chat shows up in a special window, and is clearly identified as contact from a Blizzard employee.  A Blizzard employee will never ask you for your password, nor will they ask you to confirm your account information due to a "suspected account sale".  More information on these scams (known as "phishing") and how to identify legitimate Blizzard communications can be found on our Types of Account Thefts page.
