The articles linked below make up the bulk of our policy concerning in-game behavior and activity, and we ask that all players keep them in mind while playing World of Warcraft. Each policy was created to help keep World of Warcraft a fun, fair environment for everyone. Violation of any of the following policies may result in account penalties, as outlined in each policy section.
If your account was penalized and you have questions or concerns regarding that penalty, contact our Account Administration team.
Account Penalties
We have gone to great lengths to make sure that our penalty system is as fair and just as possible. This document clearly defines each type of penalty and how each may be used to protect players' enjoyment of our games.
Game Master Interaction Policy
Who are those mysterious robed figures? The purpose of this document is to give players an idea of what to expect from their interactions with our in-game support representatives.
PvP Server Policy
PvP servers are designed to allow open combat between members of the Horde and the Alliance. As such, players on these servers have a greater ability to resolve issues on their own. This page details our GMs' policies governing PvP realms in particular, as we take a much more hands-off approach where PvP is concerned.
Role-Play Server Policy
The goal of the role-play server is to establish and maintain the most immersive environment possible. Read our policy to better understand the social responsibilities role-players have in the World of Warcraft. Please keep in mind that these rules are in addition to all the policies listed on this page.
Naming Policy
Your choice of a character name is a very important first step that you must make in the World of Warcraft. To start you off on the right foot, we have created some guidelines to assist you in determining if your chosen name is appropriate.
Harassment Policy
To ensure your time spent in World of Warcraft is safe and enjoyable, we have broken down types of language and behavior that are inappropriate for the game along with the penalties associated with each type of infraction.
Exploitation and Client/Server Manipulation Policy
This page details Blizzard Entertainment's stance on the use of third-party programs or utilities, bug exploitation, usage of user interface modifications, and client/server manipulation. These policies are all considered cheating and our intent is to level the playing field for all players.
Scam Policy
What is a scam? Will scammers be punished? Will I get my item(s) back? All the answers to your questions regarding Blizzard's stance on scamming in World of Warcraft can be found here.
Character & Item Restoration Policy
We realize that mistakes can occur which cause you to lose in-game items, money, or characters. When possible, our in-game support staff may be able to assist you in the recovery of your characters or items. This policy serves to detail how we will address such situations.
Unauthorized Account Access Policy
This policy will detail the restrictions placed on account access by the Terms of Use (ToU), how to better protect yourself from having an account compromised, how to go about regaining control of an account compromise, and the repercussions for compromising an account that is not registered to you.
