Basics

How do I send a Scroll of Resurrection to my friend?

There are two options for sending Scrolls of Resurrection:

  1. In your in-game social pane, click the Scroll of Resurrection button. An invitation box will appear. Enter the e-mail address of the friend you’d like to resurrect.
  2. On your Battle.net Account Management page, click on your World of Warcraft account and select Referrals & Rewards - Scroll of Resurrection. Then, enter the name and e-mail address of the friend you’d like to resurrect.

Your friend will be sent an e-mail invitation and will have 30 days to accept. If your friend does not want to wait for it to arrive, they may check on their outstanding Scroll of Resurrection invitations at their Received Invitations page.

We've also created the below video walkthrough of the process:

Why didn’t my friend receive my Scroll of Resurrection invitation?

Scroll of Resurrection invitations are sent out regularly to all qualifying accounts. It may take some time for your friend to receive their invitation. In order to qualify, your friend must:

  • Have a Battle.net account before you send the invitation. The email address where you sent the invitation must match the email address of your friend’s Battle.net account.

  • Not have changed the email address of their Battle.net account after the invitation was sent.

Note: Be sure to complete any email address changes before you send a Scroll of Resurrection invitation. If either you or your friend change your Battle.net email address after an invitation was sent, you may lose invitations or rewards.

  • Have at least one World of Warcraft license that was inactive on or before March 4, 2012. This account must be in good standing (not banned or locked).

If your friend does not receive the email but meets the criteria above, ask your friend to check their spam and junk folders.

How many times can one person accept a Scroll of Resurrection?

After March 5th, 2012, you are only able to accept one Scroll of Resurrection per eligible World of Warcraft license – if you have already accepted an invitation after March 5th, you will not be able to accept another for the same World of Warcraft license, but may accept invitations for other eligible World of Warcraft licenses.

Eligibility

Who can receive a Scroll of Resurrection?

To be eligible to receive a Scroll of Resurrection, your friend must have a full (non-Starter Edition) World of Warcraft account, and their account must have been inactive (without an active subscription) on or before March 4th, 2012.

If your friend’s World of Warcraft license was inactive before December 2009, your friend must first link their World of Warcraft license with a Battle.net account before they can receive a Scroll of Resurrection. Review our Battle.net Account FAQ for information on creating a Battle.net account and merging a WoW license.

After your friend has set up their account, you should be able to send them a Scroll of Resurrection normally.

Who can send a Scroll of Resurrection?

Any active World of Warcraft license may be used to send a Scroll of Resurrection. Even licenses that were reactivated under the Scroll of Resurrection may send invitations (including those still under the 7 days of free game time).

Can I resurrect one of my own World of Warcraft licenses?

If your Battle.net account has at least one active World of Warcraft license, you can send your inactive licenses Scroll of Resurrection invitations. These invitations may be sent from the same Battle.net account.

Can I reactivate my account first and then have my friend send me a Scroll?

A Scroll of Resurrection cannot be applied to a World of Warcraft license retroactively. If an eligible license is reactivated without Scroll of Resurrection, its eligibility for Scroll of Resurrection will be permanently lost.

Is there a limit on the number of Scroll of Resurrection invitations that I can send out?

There is a limit of one Scroll of Resurrection invitation per day per World of Warcraft license on both the web and in-game, so you may send a total of two per day using both options. There is no limit on the number of lifetime Scroll of Resurrection invitations that a license can send.

Can I invite a new player with a Scroll of Resurrection?

Scroll of Resurrection can only be used on players who once had active World of Warcraft subscriptions. For a similar offer for friends who have never subscribed to World of Warcraft, please see the Recruit-A-Friend FAQ.

What are the benefits of sending a Scroll of Resurrection?

You will be able to claim an exclusive mount (Spectral Gryphon for Alliance or the Spectral Wind Rider for Horde) when your invited friend first renews their subscription and pays for 30 days of game time.

How do I redeem my mount once my friend subscribes?

Visit your Account Management page and click on the Scroll of Resurrection option. Under the History/Status tab, you will see a Claim Mount button when you are able to redeem the mount.

Note: The mount can only be redeemed on one character per Scroll.

Can I earn multiple mounts?

Yes! This reward will be given to you for each friend who accepts your invitation and meets the criteria.

Can I track the invitations I send out?

After your friend accepts, you will be able to view the status of the invitation on the History page in the Referrals & Rewards section of your Battle.net Account Management page.

Who receives the sender reward when several people send the same person a Scroll of Resurrection?

Only the player whose invitation is accepted will receive the sender’s reward. If the recipient gets several invitations, it will be up to them to choose which to accept. A recipient can accept a maximum of one Scroll of Resurrection per eligible World of Warcraft license.

Recipients

What benefits are there for accepting a Scroll of Resurrection invitation?

The Scroll’s recipient immediately receives a free digital upgrade to World of Warcraft: Cataclysm. Additionally, the Scroll’s receiver can permanently boost one character to level 80 so that they can jump straight into the adventure for their 7 days of free game time!

The digital upgrade and level boost will only be available for scrolls sent during the 90-day promotion period. Players who accept a Scroll of Resurrection that was sent after the promotion period ends will still receive 7 days of free game time, but will not be eligible for the digital upgrade or level boost.

I can't log into my account to claim my Scroll of Resurrection – who can I contact for assistance?

If you are unable to log in due to a forgotten password, try resetting your password through Battle.net Account Management. If you cannot remember your Battle.net email address, or are unable to log into your account due to a lost or broken authenticator, contact our Account & Technical Services team by phone for assistance.

I just accepted a Scroll of Resurrection. How do I level boost my character?

Log in to your Battle.net Account and click on the resurrected World of Warcraft license. Once you’re on the Game Management page, click Claim Rewards and select the character to level along with their spec.

The character will be leveled to 80 and placed in his or her faction’s capital city the next time you log in. The character will be ready to adventure immediately – they will be granted all class skills and spells up to level 80, a flying mount and riding skill, and a green quality set of level- and spec-appropriate gear for leveling.

Any gear that was on the character prior to the level boost will be mailed back to the character in-game. Active quests may be abandoned when a level boost is performed. If a quest is abandoned in this way, you will be able to pick it up normally from the NPC who originally gave you the quest.

Note: Hunter pets will not be given a spec, so level boosted Hunters will need to spec out their pets normally after logging in for the first time.

When I claim my rewards, can I boost a new character from 1 to 80?

You do not need to select a character already on the account to receive the Scroll of Resurrection rewards. To claim the rewards on a new character, log in to your account and create your new character before claiming your rewards on your Battle.net Game Management page.

What happens if my character is on a different realm or faction than the friend who invited me?

If the character that was level boosted is on a different realm or faction than the character who sent the invitation, you will be eligible for a free Character Transfer and/or a free Faction Change to bring you to your friend’s realm and faction.

See the Faction Change and Character Transfer FAQs for details on existing limitations. In addition, you cannot use the offered Character Transfer to move a character from one account to another.

Can I claim the level boost and Faction Change/Character Transfer on separate characters?

The Faction Change and Character Transfer can only be accepted on the same character that is accepting the boost to level 80.

What happens if I claim the rewards on a character that is level 80 or above?

Characters that are level 80 and above can be chosen to receive the Scroll of Resurrection rewards, however you will not be able to select another character to receive the boost to level 80. These characters will be eligible for a Faction Change/Character Transfer if the Scroll's sender is on another realm/faction, but they will not receive the benefits (items, skills, talents, etc.) from the boost to level 80.

How long is the level boost available for once I accept my Scroll?

If left unclaimed, the level boost will remain available for the entire duration of the Scroll of Resurrection promotion. However, the 7 days of game time will be granted to your World of Warcraft license immediately after accepting the Scroll.
