Are You Insane in the Membrane?

Are You Insane in the Membrane?

It's a question you've been asking us for a little while now. And, based on all the posts, emails, petitions, and letters we received following the announcement that the Insane in the Membrane achievement would no longer be in available in World of Warcraft: Cataclysm, we started to wonder if maybe we had gone a bit loco.

So, we went back to the drawing board. After carefully reviewing all the feedback and discussing the matter amongst ourselves, we're now happy to report that we will be making the following changes to the Feat of Strength:

  • Exalted reputation with Shen'dralar will no longer be required. As this is the only reputation that will be unobtainable in Cataclysm, we've simply decided to remove it as a requirement.

For those who already earned Exalted reputation with this faction, don't worry -- we haven't forgotten about your accomplishments. In a future patch, we'll be adding in a separate Feat of Strength to recognize your deep love of Dire Maul.

  • Bloodsail Buccaneer faction reputation will remain in-game. Booty Bay Bruisers now only provide rep til Honored. Encouraging players to wipe out guards ended up being not too popular a change. We're in the process of discussing future changes for the Bloodsail Buccaneer faction to help ease the extreme difficulty of gaining rep.

This will ensure that players will still be able to attain Insane in the Membrane and "The Insane" title in World of Warcraft: Cataclysm. Please note, however, that these changes will not take effect until The Shattering in patch 4.0.3a -- excluding the separate "Exalted with Shen'dralar" feat, which will be introduced in a future, but currently-undetermined patch.

And, of course, those who are already Insane in the Membrane will retain their title and current Feat of Strength. Shine on, you crazy diamonds.

We have account wide achievements now - is it possible to get exalted with Steamwheedle Cartel on 1 character, and then grind honored with bloodsail on another and still count to insane in the membrane?

It is now completely possible to get and keep full exulted with both the goblin reps and Bloodsail. Check my reputation page just finished my 3rd grind to find this out. Kill Booty Bay guards until full exulted with Bloodsail. Move on to either the pirates east side of Tanaris or Northrend Grizzly Hills (Venture Bay middle boat) and grind. I found the Venture Bay mobs on the boat easiest to kill efficiently but if you are lower level perhaps the Tanaris pirates are a better option. Some of the goblin reps can only be pushed to exulted from one or the other of these two locations but between the two you can grind and eventually have all Goblin reps to Exulted without damaging your Bloodsail rep.

Ok: I am now exalted with all Steamwheedle factions. Yayy! 41 exalted for me at this point. Yayy again. hehe. but all npcs in booty bay are now green to me. What do I do now to get to honored, since I can't kill any npcs. Also, we all know those of us who are on this track will want to go exalted with Bloodsail. I certainly will. I guess my question is: 1) what do I do to get honored with bloodsail if I can't kill nuttin; 2) what does this do to my BB rep.
Also Catheladys, you are awesome. I'm just trying to break 9k cheeve, so my toast to you!!! Also, I know whereof you speak..... so much time spent on doing stuff, only to have Blizz yank it from beneath me. Oh, the horror! Thanks guys

@Amarna: duh!!! answered my own question. But I can't kill the bruisers. Soooo, I'm at faldir cove. It seems to take more time to rez than it does to get 5 points at faldir. Hate losing my BB rep, but I do have 41 exalteds at this point, so I'll go to ex with Bloodsail and see what happens.

Can anyone explain how to get the Gadgetzan rep over 20999/21000 to get exalted? I was killing the pirates but now that doesn't work anymore.

It is insane on how the bruisers are nearly impossible to solo. I will get about a 50/50 chance to kill them and my ilvl is 401.

I'm currently working on this title myself. I didn't play much during WOTLK and I started back playing earlier this year. I am excited to take on the challenge, even if it doesn't have all of the previous requirements. I still think it takes a good bit of time and dedication, granted not nearly as much as before, but still quite a bit. To those who got it before the requirements were changed, I applaud you, and don't be upset or rage on Blizzard, you have something the people that are now trying for it don't and never will have, the achievement for Shen'dralar, so link that and be proud! :)

@Insäne: Just wait, with how it has been going you will get the title upon creation of a new character in no time. Now with that said about 4 months give or take depending on how hard ya grind it. Simply 1/2 the original time and 1/4 of the original effort it took in its pre-nerfed form. So sad but enjoy your watered down title. They need to change the title from "the Insane" to "the Inconvenient".

@Rawkk: You apparently have no idea what she's talking about, and rightly so. You've got a whopping 1835 in achieve points... against Catheladys' 12,090, an amazing feat in itself.

It has nothing to do with being mad.

You simply don't get it.

@Alliekatt: Actually, you're the one who doesn't get it. There's no reason to be smug & insulting about the answer, as Cathelady was when she wrote, "So sad but enjoy your watered down title."

It was't the player who changed the requirements, it was Blizzard. So if it got easier, the insulting tone is inappropriate toward a player, who had ZERO to do with the change.

So you see, people who understand the context do indeed 'get it' whereas people like you, who do not understand the context, simply feel that being rude to others without cause is somehow appropriate.

@Zenassassin: "So sad but enjoy your watered down title." Lets take this apart so that you understand my meaning. (So sad), this refers to how Blizzard has made this achievement so much easier by removing some requirements. (but enjoy your watered down title.), intended as stated if this is a title he wishes to receive because of what Blizzard has done he will only be able to enjoy a watered down title versus a full fledged title like he could have if the Feat of Strength would have remained in its original form. All the frustration is with Blizzard not with the poster. I truly hope he does get this title and enjoy the glory of using it, it's just a shame it no longer has the prestige it once had. If he does get the title and reads up on what used to be required to receive the pre-nurfed form I would think my sentiment would be appreciated not misrepresented as a personal attack to the poster.

I've been looking at working on this for quite some time, but the thing that's been holding me back is Bloodsail, the completionist in me wants to get that to exalted for 50 exalt achieve, but i have no idea how to further that rep without taking years killing the 1 mob that's on a 24/48 hour respawn. Anyone have anything on this? Last i spoke to a GM they said that this was working as intended and that you could not get rep after 11999/12000 with the bruisers.

@Druidicdark: Yes, that is the only way to get Bloodsail to exulted, working as intended. There is no other way to get to exulted after 11999/12000 then killing that one guy on a crazy low re-spawn. Best of luck though =)

if blizzard keeps going this way by the time the next expansion hits well get the insane tittle as soon as the character is created

seriously just make this unattainable as you guys actually intended. you gave people enough time already, and like that wasnt enough you guys are also making it easier for them by removing the requirements (or altering them greatly)...

I am curious about the DMF rep in 4.3, will you only be able to do the dailies for one week per month? This will be the only rep I still need after this Thanksgiving weekend. I do not want to spend a crap ton of gold on decks, already on Elune, the rogue decks are 100g each on the AH.

@Bactterium: You will be able to get as a human with the 10% bonus rep about 1750 rep per day. So 12,250 for the week. So if ya did nothing but the DMF dailies in 4 months you would go from neutral to exulted. A total of about 14 hours of game time work. Maybe a bit more hours if your slow at completing the dailies.

Blizzard please remove the ability to get this Feat. It was bad enough to drop the Shen'dralar requirement. But now in patch 4.3 you can get Darkmoon Faire reputation crazy fast on the new island. Really 250 reputation per daily there. Mix that with 4-6 dailies per day. So folks can spend a hour or 2 at the island and get 1500-1650 rep per day just running a few quests. Anyone who had to work Darkmoon Faire reputation just doing card set turn ins especially if they spent the time picking the herbs etc to make the sets would know that still allowing people to get "Insane" with Darkmoon Faire rep now a walk in the park come 4.3. is INSANE.

@Ødelíå: Come patch 4.3 the Darkmoon Faire no longer travels around Azoroth. It now has its own island. You get there using a portal from the old Faire spots near Stormwind and near Thunderbluff or via a Darkmoon Faire NPC in the respective city for 30 silver teleport. The new island features all new games etc. I love the new Darkmoon Faire island concept, the new games, arena and etc that are there. Problem is it has multiple dailies that are extremely easy to do and provide 250-275 reputation per. This will net about 250-275 per quest times 4-6 quests per day. Around 1,500-1750 reputation per day for 30 minutes or so of work per day. Beyond making getting Darkmoon Faire reputation now very easy to get to exulted it also defeats the purpose of the Insane feat. Because along with easy rep gain there are also tons of rewards for this reputation now. They include 2 mounts, 6 pets, old replicas of dungeon set 1/2, hierloom gear, etc. The idea of the Insane feat was that these reputations along with being time consuming to increase also had little to no reward for reaching the reputation required. Insane come 4.3 will now only have 3 main grinds Bloodsail, Goblin, Ravenholt. Darkmoon Faire will hardly qualify as a grind it will be fast 1500-1750 reputation per day, and it provides a lot of nice rewards(aka no longer increasing reputation for little to no reward)

@Catheladys: Question for a Blizzard representative is do these daily reputation gains stop at max friendly? If you still have to turn in card sets for honored-exulted then all is good. Some clairification would help resolve the concern.

@Trife: You just made the most important point of all thank you! What made it a feat of strength and more to the point "INSANE" was it was, to quote you "a horribly mundane task" and made you "waste so much of your life to achieve the reputations". As you stated they "made it so you don't have to" do those things. Thus if you get this feat now you do not meet the criterion set forth for the title "the Insane". So again thank you for supporting my concern and recommending that this no longer be an obtainable feat.
