Are You Insane in the Membrane?

Are You Insane in the Membrane?

It's a question you've been asking us for a little while now. And, based on all the posts, emails, petitions, and letters we received following the announcement that the Insane in the Membrane achievement would no longer be in available in World of Warcraft: Cataclysm, we started to wonder if maybe we had gone a bit loco.

So, we went back to the drawing board. After carefully reviewing all the feedback and discussing the matter amongst ourselves, we're now happy to report that we will be making the following changes to the Feat of Strength:

  • Exalted reputation with Shen'dralar will no longer be required. As this is the only reputation that will be unobtainable in Cataclysm, we've simply decided to remove it as a requirement.

For those who already earned Exalted reputation with this faction, don't worry -- we haven't forgotten about your accomplishments. In a future patch, we'll be adding in a separate Feat of Strength to recognize your deep love of Dire Maul.

  • Bloodsail Buccaneer faction reputation will remain in-game. Booty Bay Bruisers now only provide rep til Honored. Encouraging players to wipe out guards ended up being not too popular a change. We're in the process of discussing future changes for the Bloodsail Buccaneer faction to help ease the extreme difficulty of gaining rep.

This will ensure that players will still be able to attain Insane in the Membrane and "The Insane" title in World of Warcraft: Cataclysm. Please note, however, that these changes will not take effect until The Shattering in patch 4.0.3a -- excluding the separate "Exalted with Shen'dralar" feat, which will be introduced in a future, but currently-undetermined patch.

And, of course, those who are already Insane in the Membrane will retain their title and current Feat of Strength. Shine on, you crazy diamonds.

I am working towards it and am glad to know that it will still be around. I did by all the librams I need during the spring and will plan on turning them in. I agree that those who have gotten the Shen'dralar Reputation should get something special in the form of a title or something else.

I am glad to see that you guys listen to your player base.

Now do I finish my Goblin reps this week or wait until I can have Bloodsail exalted? =)

...wow....I literally just spent the last two weeks freeing knot in DM to get my goblin rep up without losing my honored status with bloodsail and now you go and change bloodsail so I could have gotten them to exalted...

Its really not that big a deal... if you grinded dire maul for all your librams, buying pristine black diamonds off the ah was really the only other part of it, which given enough time wasnt that drastically expensive.

I can say that I hope that they give an AWESOME reward for the shen'dralar feat.

Really appreciate the update! I hit exalted with Shen'dalar rep a few weeks ago after the news came out that the achievement was going to be damaged. It wasn't so much hard, as it was expensive due to all the PBD price gouging on the auction house. Those whole librams have no place in the game anymore and Blizz is right to mop them up.

I'm so glad I sold all those Pristine Black Diamonds for an insane price and people bought them all up recently.

Insane is right. Grats on your title.

how...in the bloody hell do you justify this. Insane is insane. Call the title without shendralar, "Kind of Insane" or "Not really that Insane." This is like those that got LK and the rest of ICC for that matter with a 30% buff. It's water-downed and worthless. Not only have you insulted everyone whose gotten this achievement, you've shown true disregard for those that want to do the crazy stuff. What's next? Bloodsail exalted mob gives 500 rep? Only need 1 lock box per turn in instead of 5? Lastly, I was somewhat lucky...didn't spend alot of cash. But what about my friends who have just unloaded tonnes of cash lately to do this. All for what? A shen dralar feat of strength? That's really awesome. Without a title difference, or a mount, a heirloom, what you just did, and how you justified it shows how much you pander to the whining masses.

@Snoopdoggydo: You are getting a separate feat of strength for Shendralar rep that no one else will have. This is an excellent comprimise and rewards your unique achievement. Otherwise you should be careful..your epeen is showing.

I love how the majority (practically all) of the people posting on here are outraged at Blizzard for pandering to the "QQ'ers" while simultaneously QQ'ing over how they want another title/mount/pet/expansion in their name for completing this achievement before others.

@Volbourn: They don't seem to realize that for many people the original 'upset' was about the conflicting replies from Blizzard.

One hand says it will be obtainable in cataclysm, and then the other comes along a little bit later and says "Nope it's going away". I realize that plans change, but that is a little upsetting to anyone, understandably.

@Ivolt: Clearly you never put the time and effort into this. This title is very, very rare, and it needs to stay that way. Even the most hardcore players in my guild with 10k+ achievement points were never interested in doing this. "I like achievements, but this is just crazy, just......insane" Now they will do it. *sigh*

@Ivolt: The difference is that the Insane grind would have NOT have been completely trivialized by having 5 more levels. We already out-leveled any mob we needed to kill by 20 levels, the real test is the time, patience, and gold required.

@Ivolt: the idea of insane was it was something you really had to decide whether neglecting your kids, using you sick days at work, or just becoming a (insert drug name here) head. It was something you could take a long time and work on or just try and buy your way through most of it. Either way it indicated time, and in most cases the ability to draw on friends for help, and really just some plain old craziness. This isn't some old instance. It has nothing to do with raiding or pvp. Dire Maul is going bye bye. Fine. Insane should to, except for those that have crossed that threshold. If they reword people with something other then a feat of strength, which no one bloody looks at unless it comes with candy, fine. If not, make it like the ZA bears some of us didn't get. There was more of an outcry for them to return, and currently zg mounts to be available somehow, then a achievement that causes true mental psychosis. So some qq'ing works better then others i guess.

@Slaytanic: I understand how people would be mad but I agree with Ivolt, if you got it before everyone else you should be proud of yourself that you did it before it was "watered down". If you are upset over the time involved then how about people who have been playing for 5+ years scream and yell for mounts/achievements/pets/heirlooms/statue in Stormwind in my image because I have invested 5 years of my time into this game while people who have been playing for almost a year running out there and getting The Light of Dawn title before me.

Well I suppose my forum rage was worth it. I begged for a FoS for the shen and got myself banned, whatever =]

Well, I just finished shen'drelar yesterday... I was spending 800+ gold per pristine black diamond - grinding out heroics and anything else I could find to make the money to finish it before 4.0.3. This would have been great news a week ago, but now it's just really really frustrating. I bankrupted myself in pursuit of The Insane and now it doesn't even count.

Oh yeah - forget the hours spent looking for Blood of Heroes, Skin of Shadow, and Abom Stitchings. :)

When a Shen'drelar-specific FoS gets added, it really needs to come with an equally awesome title. "The Truly Insane" comes to mind...

@Zalde: If they decided to award a title later on for the Shen'dralar crazies (like me) I would personally like to see something along the lines of "the Pristine" or "Black Diamond Master" etc... Though someone's suggestion "of the Highborne" is pretty epic.

Does this mean that the ability to turn Darkmoon decks is still in the game in Cata? It's the only part of the achievement I haven't finished.

You can restore your Booty Bay, Gadgetzan, Ratchet, and Everlook reputation without destroying your Bloodsail reputation by killing the Venture Co. Evacuees in Venture Bay in Grizzly Hills.

@Masehan: There are also pirates near ratchet and tanaris that give rep to these factions too. and the respawn rate is decently high. But at a certain point you will want to tear your eyes out killing these guys.

I would prefer to see the Shen'dralar as new and cool reputation faction. I don't know, with daily quests, more rewards and more cool stuffs.

Still, I am happy the achievement is still out there. Plus the hardest part (in my opinion) is the Darkmoon stuff.

I am almost finished with the title after spending the past two weeks living and breathing Darkmoon Faire and I think removing the Shen'dralar requirement cheapens the title for those who have put the time in towards obtaining it.

There should be a separate title for Shen'dralar feat. Might I suggest "[Name] of the Highborne"?

Or something.

And now you'll get a title WITHOUT doing it. Not fair. Not fair.

@Ryllae: And now everyone else gets "Insane" without doing the Shendralar portion. After the hours and hours I put into farming librams, pristine black diamonds, and blood of heroes in the Plaguelands... you honestly don't think we're entitled to another title to show that we put that extra time in?

@Slaytanic: The Booty Bay guards will be level cap this time around, so no killing them 10-15 at a time any more, but 1-5. So, what effort they removed from the Shen'dralar going away will be partially recompensed in the difficulty of Bloodsail Buccaneers... given that they don't increase the rep gains too much.
