The Story So Far... Part II

The Story So Far... Part II

Heralds of Twilight

Continued from part one of "The Story So Far...".

As the world's races struggled for survival in the wake of the Cataclysm, details came to light concerning what—or who—had caused the disaster. Prior to the upheaval, the Fury of Earth had cryptically told Thrall that Azeroth's instability had been caused by something good that had turned unnatural. Something that wished to inflict pain and suffering on the entire world.

The warning was in reference to an ancient being once known as Neltharion the Earth-Warder. Long ago, this Aspect of the black dragonflight had been granted dominion over Azeroth's earthly expanses by the benevolent titans. Yet the incessant whisperings of the Old Gods had gradually driven Neltharion insane and caused him to abandon his sacred charge. He had later revealed his treachery during the War of the Ancients by turning an immensely powerful artifact—the Dragon Soul—against his allies, annihilating nearly all of the blue dragonflight. Forever after, Neltharion would answer to a new name: Deathwing.

Deathwing's murderous aim had become the subjugation of the other dragonflights, a goal left unfulfilled decades ago when he was chased into hiding by the Dragon Aspects Alexstrasza, Ysera, Nozdormu, and Malygos. In Deathwing's absence, agents of the black dragonflight continued one of his darkest schemes: creating a more powerful breed of dragon. The most promising of these vile experiments resulted in twilight dragons, malefic creatures that first appeared in the cursed and abandoned dwarven city of Grim Batol, and later within the hallowed Chamber of the Aspects.

During many of these developments, Deathwing remained hidden. Rumors regarding his death circulated, leading to the assumption that his malevolent influence on Azeroth was at an end. Such was not the case. In Deepholm, the domain of earth within the Elemental Plane, Deathwing nourished his hatred of Azeroth's inhabitants, awaiting his moment to burst forth from his lair and reforge the world in flame. That fateful day—the Cataclysm—arrived shortly after Thrall's return from Outland.

Deathwing's violent return did much more than sunder the lands of Azeroth; it also ruptured the boundaries of the Elemental Plane. In the aftermath, chaotic elementals emerged into the world from within the Abyssal Maw, Deepholm, the Firelands, and the Skywall. Working with Deathwing, the Twilight's Hammer cult and its twisted leader, Cho'gall, established footholds across the world with the aid of twilight dragons and enslaved elementals.

Thus far, many of Azeroth's defenders have devoted themselves to combating the cult and allaying the elemental forces threatening to tear the world apart. Chief among these champions are the shaman of the Earthen Ring, including Thrall, Nobundo, and Muln Earthfury. Other Horde and Alliance heroes have also risen to the challenge, but their focus has been split due to skirmishes between the two factions.

Amid the turmoil, two other beleaguered groups are striving to overcome their own hurdles. The human kingdom of Gilneas, walled off from the rest of the world for years, has come under assault by Queen Sylvanas's Forsaken. Aside from the undead, the kingdom is assailed by a debilitating curse that transforms its victims into feral wolf-beasts known as worgen. Meanwhile, a volcanic eruption on the tropical Isle of Kezan has ousted the Bilgewater Cartel and other goblins from their homes. Trade Prince Gallywix has capitalized on this moment of panic and swindled his fellow goblins out of their life savings—and their freedom—in exchange for transport off of Kezan.

Much like Gilneas and the Bilgewater Cartel, other kingdoms and factions the world over face their own trials, from internal political strife to the reappearance of ancient foes. Yet there is one inescapable truth that they all share: if Deathwing and his nihilistic servants are left unopposed, the Cataclysm will pale in comparison to the chaos that lies ahead for Azeroth.

I followed Thrall to the Malestrom where he fought and lost to Deathwing, descending into it. I later went to Deeholm and didn't find any quests or signs of Thrall at all, ending up doing other quests in Uldum, losing track of him and none of the 'wow' 'workers' are literate or patient enough to help 'read' anything I've asked them via the GM 'chat line'. Where is he now and how can I find him to complete the quest chain ? What is the achievement called ?

Saying FOR THE ALLIENCE or FOR THE HORDE can be fun in all but its just a game and well...apperently some people take factions to seriusly lol. It would be cool like if ther was a middle faction like dragons or something that would be realy cool. or mabe twilight hammer faction against all. and mabe next patch or next expansion could be like fight for the emerald dream or somethign like that because there still hasnt been much covered since vanilla wow about the emerald dream. A new class idiea would be like a demonhunter with the blindfold and the glaives or a dragon knight that could turn into a dragon at will and burninate all the peopel. thats my idieas of how to improve the game, ty

@Furyfighter: My manager plays for the alliance, yet even after I told her I had a level 80 night elf hunter, she still made me do ridiculous tasks and every time I would comment she would say "sorry, I don't speak orcish." I can see how the game can be taken to literally...

Each side has done things the other has a right to hate them for, it is war not a tea party. As far as who is the evil ones here, that is hard to say, the humans did bad things to the blood elf's when they were on the same side. The forsaken have done bad things to everyone, Long live Sylvanas. The night elf's or highborne are the reason the burning league came to Azeroth. the space goats they have done little to other races on Azeroth. Darkspear trolls have been at war with night elf's for a long time.

I'm don't raid or do dungeons anymore, but if the realm server could handle a few hundred level 85 player's to sweep through all the nasty's in Azeroth, Blizzard could never keep up with the storyline. Just a thought...if this was based on what would really happen in such a world, just rally the most powerful players and watch the slaughter of evil, Game Over. As it is, we must be entertained and controlled. What could 200, 300 or even 400 epic geared 85's do as a united force, it would be awesome to watch and take part in...eh?

@Elianna: You know, I could this working... to an extent. Maybe if they had something every 2 or three months to advance the story, they could have massive, massive raid-type world events. What you're mentioning, I believe, would add ANOTHER level of competition between players (Which could be good or bad), in the sense that realms would compete with each other. An example would be, "Which realm killed Deathwing first?" Now, this competition is MUCH more collective, because rather than one player being the "hero", there would be groups of hundreds being that. Much more team-based. Also, in order for fights/quests/etc to last more than 8 seconds, there would have to be multiple bosses with billions of health. This could cause a LOT of lagging. So, yeah, I do agree with you that the idea is great, but I don't feel as though it's really even possible, sadly.

@Elbanger and @ Rakerd
Thrall isn't the leader of the horde anymore. Garrosh Hellscream is, and he's most certainly NOT a good guy. And Rankerd, the Worgen are fighting against the undead for taking over their home, while the undead are just obsessed with the destruction of all life on Azeroth.

@Dartric: Are you trolling? You have a lack of horde lore. Garrosh is not a bad guy and the undead tried to invade gilneas to capture a tactical stronghold. Go read up on such things before you start trying to teach others false lore. Thanks.

@Rakerd: The worgen are just humans who can transform due to a curse. They are not evil as a whole. As far as them hating the undead, id hate someone who is trying to capture my homeland and use it as a stronghold for a war that im not even in. (they joined after the forsaken tried to invade gilneas)
