BlizzCon VIPs Donate to Worthy Cause

What could be better than an evening of fine dining and pleasant conversation in support of a worthy cause? On Thursday, October 21, Blizzard hosted a special dinner to benefit the Children’s Hospital of Orange County Children's Foundation. Guests were able to mingle with game developers, artists, executives, community managers, and other Blizzard Entertainment representatives. We’re happy to announce that on Friday, January 7, thanks to the generosity of our attending VIPs, we were able to present a check to the CHOC Children’s Foundation totaling $75,000. We extend our thanks to the BlizzCon VIP attendees for their philanthropy and for making it such a wonderful evening.

Frank Pearce and CHOC VP/COO Debra Mathias

It is wonderful to hear stories of worthy causes. The only thing missing is a link to donate ourselves so that all the haters have a place to pay for the right to trash talk in the forum. BTW, CHOC has a link on their website if anyone were interested in helping a wonderful cause. Or find the childrens hospital in your area, they all rely on donations to help children while trying not to make money a limiting factor. Its not huge numbers here but when combined with others it allows great things to happen. Keep up the good work.

@Pak: Pak, don't type in the forums and PROVE to everyone your degree of ignorance. The Blizz VPs were NOT paying to mingle, they were donating some of their hard earned bucks to a worthy cause. ANy money that you give to Blizz is by you FOR you! They were talking about helping someone OTHER than themselves.

Some say money can't buy love or happiness, others say that those with money are not doing enough, and some say money is the root of all evil. Personally I think money is just an item, a thing for trade, a means to an end and so i say when those who have money are evil i think they do evil things and when those who have money are good they do good things. Thank you Blizz VIP's for being good people i am glad God blessed you with this money.

Humanity shall improve by those who take action. When the human mind experiences the power of love and compassion, it reaches its highest frequency. The dollar is only worth the paper it was printed on, so why not donate profit dollars towards a worthy cause in which reflects TRUE VALUE. Think of this as an opportunity to invest towards our morality vs social approval ratings and tax breaks. This was indeed a good deed. BTW..... /spit @ the NWO! FREE HUMANITY!! ooo and for the critics, have a blast correcting my grammer/spelling errors. I hope it keeps you occcccupied while you sit back sucking your thumbs

thank you Blizzard what people need to realize is these hospitals give a lot away. My daughter when born weighed 1lb 8oz and fit in my palm. She is now 11 and had it not been for Children's Hospital in Oakland California she wouldn't be here. They took care of my daughter for 4 months and I lived at the hospital the entire time they did not charge us a dime. So for all you haters out there stfu and gtfo. Find another forum to post your blasphemy.

I must concur with the people posting common sense. BlizzCon VIPs are SEPARATE people from Blizzard employees. Here you haters sit and gripe about how much was given to charity, well how much have YOU given? Honestly, if you really need something to carry on about, go some where else. If Blizzard is on your "bad" list, then go find something you're happy with. It warms my heart to know Blizzard is helping children in need. Blessings to you all!

Alright, MOST of you need to scroll up and re-read the article...
1. The attendees were BlizzCon VIPs, not Blizzard employees
2. The event allowed these said VIPs to mingle with Blizzard staff
3. Blizzard would have provided this access to atendees in exchange for their donations to the charity, they probably covered the bill for the food, etc. so they were the "sponsor" of the event
4. VIPs = pretty sure that isn't you and me...this would be CEOs and/or execs from other companies like GameStop, MMO-Champion, or whatever...not the vast playing community
5. Kudos should still be given to Blizzard for putting on such an event - even fronting the cost to allow people the opportunity to donate to a cause like this is valuable in times like this.

You know, someone earlier posted about possibly adding the option to like, pay $1 extra a month and having it go to a charity. I actually think that would be a good idea. It would mean a lot more charity from this game and a lot more people being helped as well. I would be all for this and would be one of the first to sign up.

Don't get me wrong, what Blizzard did was awesome and I applaud them. Sure, it wasn't much considering costs, however; it will help someone. I myself currently donate $30 a month to 3 different charities, so I know, every little bit helps and Blizz did good.

Ah yes let's not let companies use charitable donations as tax write offs. We'll see how many companies give to worthy causes then. I Agree Health costs are incredible but not allowing companies to have tax write offs will not remedy the problem of health care costs. Go Blizzard worthy cause ignore all the haters!

i agree ... but if you look at it for costs of a hospital bill 75k would probly only cover 1 kid maybe 2 or 3 ... but no more then that ... cause the way america over charges for hospital fees due alot to insurrance companies making doctors cover their butts on every little detail for sue happy americans ... i mean you have to agree it is a small but still helpful and meaningful thought. but in ways i think blizz shouldve matched to make it more of a deal .... and i agree with alot of what people say ... and actually how much will be tax deductable for next years taxes ... i think any donations should not be allowed by the US government to be included to get a portion of that back ... so if a company decides to donate or is able to say donate 150k in cash to whomever they should not be allowed to recoup that next year in hopes they can use that to put elsewhere in their company as a cushion cause they know they will see at least 45% of what they donated. and the numbers are probably incorrect but people hopepfully get my point

Blizzard just because you gave some pocket change to some hospital doesn't mean it makes up for all your bad karma, You still have sellout, and abandoning your community on your karma list its going to take a whole lot more to make up for your sins to your true fans the community

For those of you who are complaining about the amount of money given or the people who actually donated the money, you need to reread the article. The money was NOT donated from proceeds of Blizzcon, it was generated from a dinner hosted by Blizzard during Blizzcon. This is a common method to raise money for charity by many companies MUCH larger than Blizzard.

I am very grateful for donations like this and many others to Children's Hospital. You see, my son recently had a brain tumor removed and is now going through chemotherapy. Without the many donations to Children's Hospital he would not be receiving the best care and being seen by the top teams in this country.

These donations are used for research and financial help to families without insurance. So before you blast Blizzard, ask yourself when was the last time you donated money or even bought a meal for someone who needed it.

"Guests were able to mingle with game developers, artists, executives, community managers, and other Blizzard Entertainment representatives."

They were BlizzCON VIP, not BlizzARD VIPs. these are people who play the game just like you and me, and had it in their hearts to give money. These are not the millionaires we have made at Blizzard with our monthly subs, this was donated by players (mostly) just like you and me.

The way I'm reading this is Blizzard VIP or employees gave $75,000 not Blizzard the company so that is quite a bit if that is coming out of individual's pocketbooks. Kudos Blizzard VIP's

Blizzard has its own expenses as we all do and yet they took the time to do something nice, My hat is off to them for going the extra mile, All that think they could have done more need to ask yourself "What Have i given up for charity" if the answer is nothing you should be ashamed of yourself to critize those that have

They have always said that charity begins at home and I so wholly support this. I've lived in 3 continents and in each place I would rather see donations of any sort go to charities or people who could benefit from it the most locally in that place. In every though children suffer in some way or another and if some joy can be brought to them in any way possible, there's no better gift.

To those that talk of all the gazillions made, when you start looking into it they aren't really that great in the grand scheme of things. The biggest expense being wages. This is generally the biggest expense of any company but people are oblivious to the fact, except the people that run the company and actually support their staff, who in turn support their families, which then feeds the local economy and keeps things ticking over as a piece of the grand scheme. But then maybe that's pretty deep to get into.

Bliz, Hear hear!

What if Blizzard were to offer their customers a subscription that cost $1 more/month and offered to direct that additional dollar to one of five charities?

What if Blizzard matched that dollar?

I can guarantee it would be more than $75k/month to charity... but, then again, there wouldn't be as many great photo ops either.

Come on Blizz, 75,000 raised by your customers? Really? lol
I am not the type to criticize any form of charity, but throwing yourself a party, and having the guests doll out the charity is not in and of itself charity. Maybe Bliz is being quiet and anonymously donated a generous sum themselves? I seriously doubt it though.
Here's a better example of charity:
