Patch 4.1: Guild Challenges

Patch 4.1: Guild Challenges

In addition to updating Zul’Gurub and Zul’Aman for level-85 players, we're also excited about another patch 4.1 feature: Guild Challenges. Built into the Info panel of the guild user interface, Guild Challenges will be weekly tasks guild groups can tackle for additional guild experience, achievements, and gold.

This feature has been designed and implemented to be quite simple. At the top of the guild user interface Info pane, a new Guild Challenges section will be displayed and broken into three categories: Dungeons, Raids, and Rated Battlegrounds. Any guild group will qualify for Guild Challenges credit and there is a set number of times each challenge can be completed per week. There’s no need to add a quest to your Quest Log or anything of that nature. Just grab a guild group eligible for any of the challenges and go.

Completing a Guild Challenge will result in a popup to confirm credit has been awarded, similar to achievement popups (or “toasts”). The participating guild members will then earn experience for their guild. In addition, a gold reward will be deposited directly to the Guild Vault. The gold and experience rewarded varies for each challenge type, but you won’t have to worry about receiving reduced rewards if, say, you happen to be in a guild group that completes a raid or dungeon on normal difficulty. Since there is a limited number of times each challenge type can be completed per week, we want to make sure guilds don’t feel set back if a guild group of level-18 players receives credit for completing Deadmines, versus a level-85 guild group completing Heroic Deadmines. The same applies to normal and Heroic difficulty raid progression. Provided the content is level-appropriate for your guild group, you’ll earn experience and gold for your guild.

To earn Guild Dungeon Challenge credit, the 5-player party must be composed of at least 3 guild members. Raid and Rated Battleground Challenges require that 8 out of 10 players be guild members, while 20 guild members are required to earn credit for 25-player raids. To earn gold for Guild Challenge rewards, a guild must be level 5 or higher and the participating members must have earned honored reputation with the guild. For example, 3 out of 5 guild members in a 5-player party must be honored to earn gold for the guild. If those three guild members have only reached friendly reputation, they would still receive credit and earn guild experience, but the guild would not receive gold.

So, let’s say your guild has been regularly hitting the daily experience cap. You might be wondering how beneficial it’d be to do Guild Challenges. Well wonder no more, amigos: Guild Challenges award guild experience above the cap. Think of it like rested experience. The guild experience cap will extend itself relative to the guild experience earned by completing these challenges. It’s a great way to get an extra edge on your guild leveling! Not only that, if your guild reaches the level cap, continuing to partake in Guild Challenges will yield a much more substantial sum of gold deposited directly into the Guild Vault.

We’re very happy with Guild Challenges and feel that they’re a fun way to continue expanding upon all of the new guild features added in World of Warcraft: Cataclysm. Your feedback regarding this system is always appreciated, as you can be sure we’ll be looking for ways to beef it up in future patches.

I have not took the time to read ALLL 688 Comments but, what if your guild is level 25? Does it work the same way as if you did a quest at level 85? Experience > Gold?

@Retsnis: You do know there's a difference between hunters and huntards. Have you ever seen a hunter survive through the Halfus fight in BoT? Few on my server can I for one am a hunter. Not a huntard. I set aside all face-rolling. I came up with my own rotation. I suggest many facerolling classes do that. I'm a marks hunter and i was in a dungeon with another marks hunter. He was face rolling pulling 13k dps. I was doing my rotation and pulling a maximum of 15k He was 355 i was 340. That's my opinion.

@Retsnis: Hum, what exactly does someone have to do to be classified as a huntard ... well besides causing the tank to die after he rolls need on a heroic superior bow and wins the damn thing ... which, might I add was rather fun to do.

All though I'm may not like everything wow has done. I think they have done a very good job of making things more guild focused. I don't ever want to see things again like it was during LK. Every one running around with 150 pug raids a day and no one cooperating. Forget that. The changes wow has made makes people have to work together as a team and you won't get very far on your own now.

P:S The new Call to Arms system is fail. I have no motivation to que for a second heroic on either my tanks. There is nothing I can get that i cant get anywhere else. Implementing 70 extra valor for tanks and heals queing a second time would have everyone of them doing it reducing que time in half and also gearing the two most sought after and critical roles for raids.
P:S Dps whining and cutting down new tanks or healers does not help the que times. Be respectful, be polite and maybe more of us will carry you through runs without the 45 minute wait. thank - You

@Daviee: in all honesty you should also be appreciative of competent dps who actually do their job. just giving respect to a player who q'd as a tank or heals cause of the short q time and then still needing on dps gear is worse than a dps who has bad gear in EVERY respect. don't get inside your own a** just because you happen to tank. p.s. i like the concept of tanks and heals getting more incentive to q and no one should be sitting in a 45 min to an hour, ya smug kid

@Daviee: its tanks like you that give tanks a bad name to begin with. You believe that somehow a group revolves around you. PLAYERS complain and make a bad run, not one class in particular. and from the sounds of it, youre one of them. learn to work TOGETHER with people instead of ripping on an entire set of players, then telling THEM to be respectful.. and maybe youll learn to have FUN in a VIDEO GAME..

@Daviee: On my very geared and experienced rogue on Dalv i make sure to keep all md and agro geared to the tank i mark healers to be taking care of first and cc when needed as well as hitting de enrages and crucial interrupts. I agree to have this " I'm better than you" attitude just cause you tank shows how much of a classy person you are.

@Daviee: You obviously have no respect for the DPS that sit in queue for 45 minutes to get into a dungeon with some jerk like you who acts high and mighty because you decided to play a warrior rather than a mage or a warlock. Maybe the reason you have no incentive is because you've already wasted too much of your life getting fake purple clothes and hitting imaginary monsters?

@Daviee: Most of you "Better than the rest of us" tanks, are only tanks because you want fast ques, and everyone to think your the bomb. Nothing fails a group faster than a tank that thinks he is the whole reason the group exists. I've healed poorly geared Tanks that at least died trying, and came back for more, and well geared tanks that cryed because THEY pulled to much to begin with and Bailed cuz everyone else was the problem. Get over yourself

@Daviee: To all the above replies. I didn't see any of the attitude you all are attributing to this guy, but I haven't run with him. I agree that the DPS shouldn't be whinning and cutting down new tanks or healers. I know many on our guild won't PUG as a tank or healer, because of experiences with rude people. I rarely ever PUG, because I'd rather go with guild members that I know are fun to be with and I can be on Vent with.

@Daviee: I've started tanking recently and I can say that I do agree with you a little bit. I've had so many runs lately where the DPS or healers in my group who thought that just because they were geared that they could just mass pull on Heroics and DPS through it, when some or the rest of us couldn't handle that kind of thing yet. I've also seen a lot of DPS who, for whatever reason, make really bad CC decisions and get pissy when the group wipes. There are people out there who really need to take their group members into consideration, this isn't Lich King easy anymore. Now, I'm not saying that ALL DPS are fail. There are lots of those people out there who really do their job, they attack the tank's target, they adjust to difficult pulls, and manage their DPS accordingly, and sometimes that's still not enough because the tank doesn't do things right (like I've done on occasion) and stuff just gets out of hand. Tanks are just as much to blame for bad runs as DPS or Heals. As for the call to arms thing, I think it's a good idea, granted it has its drawbacks.

@Rundaido: DPS mass pulling on a heroic dungeon ... damn, I can pull that crap off in a normal dungeon but at least I behave myself in a heroic ... and as for wiping, I've staid with groups that have wiped a dozen times. I don't care, I can afford the bill and most if the time I live through it, the only times I don't are when I start to tank in an effort to delay enough for the tank to get back to the group.

Our guild is mostly inactive players, so it is difficult to get 3 of us together for a dungeon, and I am one of the three but the stress of dungeons is terrible on my health so I can't do much there. I wish there were Guild Challenges involving daily quests or profession leveling.

On the bright side, easier leveling is helping me level my toons with professions so I can make cool stuff for guildies. I still wish there was an easy mode for those of us who have health problems. I love BGs but cannot take much of them, ditto dungeons.

@Viae: a guild of three isnt exactly a guild.. its not even a heroic run. why not look for more like minded people? not everyone that plays the game looks to raid every night, Arena, etc.. there are more than enough other people out there. four years ago.. a few of us who just raid casually started posting for recruitment looking for people who were laid back, fun-loving.. and tired of all the baddie ninjas and little kids who play the game. Today.. were one of the largest guilds on WOW. doing something in-particular and sharing that with other people is what makes you a guild.. not how often you raid or how far your progression is. and it will attract like minded people.
the system is set up as a massive MULTIPLAYER

@Viae: I agree with Sadir, recruitment is a great idea i know my guild is full of like minded ppl, thats why im in it, and thats what really matters at the end of the day. we do group dailies in TB and TH and DH every day . the TB dalies are tons of fun with a group of 3 or 4 and very quick. Its all about teamwork and having fun. :) keep trying and you will eventually get there we only have like 277 members and mebbe 150 unique players if that many and everyones always toon hopping cuz we neeed a tank or a heals or a mage etc. we have a great time in vent and guild chat sometimes too goood a time lol but keep the faith and keep trying to recruit and ull get that scorpion mount. Good Luck

Leveling a guild is quite simple - You work on the acheivments do guild heroics and what raids your guild is capable of doing. Add to this daily quests and in a matter of no time 20 guildies can do this. Its not the amount of players it's thier dedication to the guild. Guild teamwork is what overall levels your guild, not mass numbers.

@Daviee: I completly disagree. My guild has maybe 30 active members, we run heriocs most of the day together, we've managed to get about half way on most achievements etc, etc, and we just hit level 10 yesterday while other guilds with over 300 members have been 25 for a week now and my understanding is the guild levels get longer and longer. Sure these challenges will make a huge difference but we wont be hitting 25 for probably another 7 or 8 months
