Anduin Wrynn: Then and Now

Anduin Wrynn: Then and Now

Fortified citadels lie in ruins. Once-verdant forests burn brightly in the twilight of the setting sun. And arid stretches of desert, known to have claimed even the hardiest of travelers, now house fertile oases.

The breaking of Azeroth changed a great many things. While the altered landscapes of the Eastern Kingdoms and Kalimdor may be the most noticeable evidence of Deathwing's violent return, many of Azeroth's heroes have also undergone drastic physical and mental transformations of their own.

Recently, we focused on how the Cataclysm has affected the lives of the accomplished shaman Thrall and the new Horde warchief, Garrosh Hellscream. Today we examine Anduin Wrynn, son of King Varian, and the indelible impact that the great changes sweeping Azeroth have had on this young man.

Although only a teenager, Stormwind's prince, Anduin, has persevered through numerous trials and tribulations, such as being kidnapped by the scheming black dragon Onyxia. His greatest challenge, however, might lie in his relationship with Varian. Anduin is no stranger to his father's love and affection, but he is constantly wary of sudden outbursts from Varian's violent, gladiatorial side. Anduin has also struggled against his father's insistence that he become a warrior.

Events just prior to the Cataclysm signaled a new chapter in Anduin's life. While undergoing martial training in the dwarven bastion of Ironforge, Anduin witnessed as Moira Thaurissan—the estranged daughter of the late King Magni Bronzebeard—held the city hostage with a contingent of Dark Iron dwarves. Despite being the legal heir to Ironforge, she drew the ire of Varian for her heavy-handed tactics. Before long, the king and a team of SI:7 agents infiltrated the city, intent on killing the brash dwarf heiress. Only through Anduin's wise and resolute intervention did Varian stay his hand and spare Moira's life, thus averting a political disaster that might have ignited a dwarven civil war.

During his time in Ironforge, Anduin also discovered his true calling in life: to be a priest devoted to the tenets of the Holy Light. For those who know Anduin well, this discipline is a perfect fit for the prince, who has consistently proven himself to be compassionate and thoughtful. No longer the child-prince of Stormwind from years past, Anduin is fast becoming his own man with the courage to speak up for what he believes in. He does not share Varian's outright hatred and mistrust of the Horde. On one occasion, he even imparted sage advice to the tauren chieftain Baine Bloodhoof after the death of his father, Cairne. Yet in Azeroth's current state of turmoil, it is unknown whether Anduin's destiny with the Light will proceed on its current course, or whether his path will take a different turn.

We'll be examining other key characters' transformations—including those of Magni Bronzebeard—in the months ahead, so come back soon.

@Kridan: I've played both factions and I remember most alliance children would just 'mysteriously' vanish when you approached the area they are in. I remember some kids on a dock as a human warrior that weren't there on my Belf warrior. : / so doubt they support abuse.

You know, I think Anduin could teach Varian many things just by observation. Like with Iron Forge, if it wasn't for Anduin's diplomacy to stop his father, the Alliance would suffer civil war with the Dwarves. Big changes indeed...

@Jastra: wont work lore ways since scourge are mindless except strong general. a group that fights both sides is the Old Gods, that would be a better choice for faction and work with lore

@Munsterman: I want to be on a monster faction. Naga, Quillboar, Murloc, Gnoll, Arrakoa, and Ogres. Go go blizzard, you can have that one for free, just make Hogger and the Riverpaw Gnolls for the achievements For the Alliance // Horde.

i think next expan will have the dragonflight as a hero class. like some sort of ritual happens to the players that are trying to kill deathwing and they take in his essence or something. then thrall and alextraza try to free you from the curse and semi succeed.
making u part dragonflight

So heres an idea for when you can kill Deathwing.

The leaders of the Horde and Alliance meet outside of Deathwings lair (with the raid group) Except, instead of Garrosh, its Thrall, and Anduin is there as well with his father. Aggra is there as well with Thrall. They battle their way in, and ingage Deathwing. During the Battle, Anduin gets a Nasty burn from Deathwing. Seeing this, Varian goes on a rampage, and Thrall attempts to heal Anduin. Suddenly, Alextrazas Dragonflight comes in, and starts blasting Deathwing. Deathwing attemps to slash Thrall as he is healing Anduin, and seeing this, Varian jumps in the way. Deathwing laughs evily and says "What a wasteful sacrifice. You will all follow his lead!". Furious, Anduin gets up and shows Deathwing the powers of a priest, blasting the hell out of him with Priest moves. Seeing the opportunity, the rest of the leaders hit Deathwing with their most powerful moves, and Alexstraza uses her fury to finish him. The a Cinimatic comes on, showing Anduin trying to heal Varian. Thrall comes and comforts him, showing thats it no use. In his last words, Varian tells Anduin to carry his job out as the new King of the Alliance, and that this is his chace to use the light to guide the Alliance down a better path. He then expires, and Anduin sobs. Thrall comes and helps him up, and tells everyone that now that Deathwing is dead, they must all do their part in Rebuilding the world. This then leads up into the next expansion, with Anduin as the new king, a priest of the Order of the Silver Hand. Garrosh has been killed by Vol'jin when he was dismissed dishonorably by Thrall for doing somthing horrible in a previous patch. Thrall has returned as the Warchief of Horde. The Gnomes have fully taken Gnomergan, and Magni has been brought back to the Dwarves by a ritual. A new hero class comes into the picture, and everything is brought back to normal, just Horde vs. Alliance. This is just an idea, probably not gonna happen, but oh well. Just somthing i thought of.
