Same-Faction Rated Battlegrounds

Much like Arenas, Rated Battlegrounds pit organized teams of players against each other in a fight for supremacy. As a reward for displaying great skill, teamwork, and coordination, Rated Battleground teams can earn the best PvP rewards that World of Warcraft offers. Since the introduction of Rated Battlegrounds, competitors have been restricted to testing their might against teams from opposite factions -- until now.

We’re happy to announce that Rated Battlegrounds now allow for matchups between teams from the same faction, just like Arenas. Not only will a larger team pool aid in matchmaking, but it will also help determine who the best of the best truly are. So stand ready, members of the Horde and Alliance, leave your petty squabbling outside these sacred grounds, and be prepared to face all challengers for glory and honor!

back in the dayyou got that title sluaghtering Horde for hours and hours and hours on end. With this new system its a slap in the face for anyone who earned it the right way

@Freewaterr: I used to dig RBG's because it gave doing battlegrounds more of a sense of worth, now its just turned into a trivial system that models games like Halo

Okay people, yes I do agree that this doesn't make sense lore wise, but you see that RBG's are a choice and besides WE do not have an impact on the lore in the first place. We are here to play an amazing game and have fun, they increased the matchmaking pool, and they also made it so you can fight other teams on your own faction to see who is better. Stop complaining about that it isn't proper or anything just enjoy the game. Enough said.

It will only matter to people who PVP and care about the queues.
Those people generally couldn't care less that it makes no sense to the context of the game. Fighting for the territory is basically lost to them. It's easily ignorable - they're basically playing a different game.

Lol, I find it hilarious that most of the people whining on here aren't even geared enough to be doing rated BGs anyway. The system is supposed to be able to distinguish who are the best, but that cannot be the case if you can only fight half of the teams out there. They aren't changing regular old BGs, just rated, so please stop whining and read before you QQ about lore if you don't even do rated BGs in the first place.

This is awesome. Those who are complaining about how all these types of changes are ruining the game, stop and think for a second. This makes sense. If you can fight the same faction in arena, why not in a rated BG? It doesn't make sense lore wise, but rated ANYTHING isn't about the lore, it's about owning face.

@Oshugun: The difference is the context. Arena's are about gladiators, fighting to the death. Faction is irrelevant. In BG's the whole point is two factions are fighting over a piece of land that has strategic importance. So what now, Horde is going to fight Horde for the Horde's right to use the lumber in Warsong Gulch? Or the resources in Arathi Basin? I mean wtf, this absolute nonsense.

how do you think it was before cross server bgs. and most notably the honor system to get to grand marshal. the horde and the alliance DID afk out for eachother to get points and exploit the system so others could not get gm without doing the same or grinding 24 hours a day, the same thing will happen here if blizz isnt careful

Will teams from the same realm face each other in same-faction match-ups? I think that at least should be prevented -- I don't want my loyalties to be divided between my BG team and the leader of a guild I'm trying to get into, nor do I want to give PvP advice to a potential opponent in trade chat.

@Scratchnpost: If your would-be guild leader can't see the value in adding people to the guild who can beat them in a rated BG then perhaps you should rethink joining that guild. Just sayin'...

@Alenlor: not to be rude here, but I could say a lot of things about the Horde too. Characters from Shrek teamed up with senseless carcasses, walking "Beef. It's what's for dinner." ads, (trolls = awesome), "My Lil' Pony"-worthy elves, and short, warty, green Smerfs. Does the fact that I said it make it true? No. No it doesn't.
