PayPal for Diablo III and Battle.net

PayPal for Diablo III and Battle.net

We're pleased to announce that in most regions, PayPal will be our payment-service partner for the Diablo III auction house, allowing players who trade with real-world currency the ability to cash out the spoils of their battle-torn adventures via a PayPal account.

PayPal will also soon be added in several regions as a payment option on Battle.net, providing another convenient and secure payment method for digital purchases of Blizzard products and services.

We’ll share region-related specifics, as well as further details on everything mentioned above, in the near future.  Stay tuned!

Ok, I have read enough posts to assume nobody has pointed this out yet. Lets not forget that this game is FREE from supscription. I ll say it again FREE. After you spend the 60 dollars or so that s it. I want each one of you to multiply the amount of months you spend playing wow by the cost per month. Some of you have been playing since the begining so im sure your total is in the thousands of dollars range. D3 is free to play. Blizzard has found a way for others to pay for your supscription. I think this is a good thing. So if you don't want to pay to play then don't. Everyone who is a serious player will EVENTUALLY get to the uber geared top level who is viable in inferno. The only difference is those willing to pay for your subscription might get there just slightly faster and this is ok. On top of that blizzard is giving the average player an oppertunity to take advantage of this situation and make a little extra cash on the side. Hey, if you want to avoid pay pale all together just link the cash to your blizzard account and use the money to pay for WOW or buy your special companions or mounts or T shirts or whatever you want to buy with it, or cash it out its up to you. I think its great that people who just want to take shortcuts in the game are paying for your supscription to D3. Remember it costs money to keep these servers running, to keep the game blanced between the classes, and to remove bugs, add more UI features. I remember the infamous bug which let players stack loaded bags within bags! wow what an oversight that was! Therefore it isn't free for blizzard either. Besides it's comming in about 4 more days from this post and I am so excited for this game to come out you wouln't believe it. Its been too long blizzard! PS. thanks for the free game!

Won't Diablo 3 be plagued with bots farming away for items to put on the AH? There are bots in World of Warcraft, how do you expect bots from "mfing" in Diablo 3? - I don't think I like this real currency idea.

Daiblo 2 had farmer tons of MFing doing the same thing. The AH useing realy money is a good thing in D3 or D2 if you add in the fact that to buy or sell stuff in D2 you had to go to a 3rd party websit. Add in the fact that there was not way for Blizzard to track the sell and trades in the frist place to stop then. This will cut out a middle man help pay for the server upkeep and still give player what they want.

This is great. I may switch my wow subscription to paypal cause the Diablo 3 RMAH should help it pay for itself.

my biggest problem of this model what is going to stop people from ninja looting items and keeping it for themselves to sell on the auction house. now they have more reason to take items especially if its not for their character....

@Whitekong: There is no Ninja loot in D3. Each player will only see the loot that drops for them on the ground. It isn't like WoW where when an item drops the group rolls on it. In D3 items will drop for you seperate from items that drop for the other people running with you.

Blizzard, the option is a solid one.
If I want to splurge on something, I can. If I want to earn it myself, I can.

Plus, this will help to keep Diablo III free and supported for years to come.

Kudos!

all i see is posts abut the RMAH, if you don't like it. don't use it. no ones forcing you to buy into anything and for that matter. if you hate blizzard enough to complain about everything they do STOP BUYING THEIR GAMES. do you think they honestly care about a few bucks in transactions from accounts? THEY HAVE OVER 2 MILLION SUBSCRIBERS TO WOW ALONE, and probably 3x that many people that are going to buy their 60 dollar Diablo 3 when it comes out.

@Selande: Not happy with pay pal. Pay Pal is one of the most secure money systems alive. Look for the free added security features. Mine has a 6 digit login code texted to my cell in order to log in. and only one bank account can be linked to one pay pal account. so if someone else tries to hack your pay pal account and export the money into their bank, they cant.

This will upset a lot of people who aren't going to risk buying gold in WoW but really want to, while in Diablo you can.

Solution? Copy and paste into WoW, problem solved.

Balance? That's an illusion. Already in Diablo the people well off financially will have a huge advantage over those working minimum wage or maybe a bit higher.

I have two polar views on this. I actually deleted this post a minute ago and am changing it now that I found the change with paypal where as before I thought it was just another way to fund the credits to battle.net, but now that you can actually "cash-out" with real money... you better believe I will be grinding a character to max level and subsequently grind gear and gold non-stop and then selling the gear for cash only.

You see the problem there? It's people like me who let greed take over and capitalize on an opportunity such as this to supplement my income.

That's the conflict I have with myself, is that I know everyone's income is not the same and I want to help as many people as I can, but if it's over the internet with no personal attachment to who you're selling to then it becomes a lot easier to let your more primitive instincts take over.

You all know where this is going. It will be just like how the government is now, the rich working behind the scenes to control everything, whether you're intelligent or even perceptive enough to realize it.

In conclusion, good idea or bad idea for you the consumer? Great idea if you like money and don't care about balance between the large gap of income between the well off and worse off player base, horrible idea if you care about balance and keeping your characters' strengths limited to what you achieve in game (not in your bank account)... you know... sort of what they try to do with WoW right now...?

I love how they made the real-money auction house mandatory. I don't understand why people are so upset about being forced to participate in this entirely obligatory service.

I for one am extremely excited that, we have another reason to help out the gold farmers, cause there isn't enough of a problem now. They can't stop what's out there now, and this isn't going to make it any better. As far as it being a good idea, yup sure is for Blizzard. If you want a company to know how to make money, they are them.

@Raretoaster: I'm all about some cheap gold. If there is someone willing to farm it for cheap then there will be buyers. My time is worth more than $3 an hour. If it takes a weekend of farming to get an item I need to max out a character, I'd pay for it and have my weekend to actually down bosses with time to spare to actually, you know, go out and do things and/or work making 5x what I would lose by farming. Spend a dollar, make five.

@Raretoaster: There is no permanent solution to gold farmers, there are to many international laws that clash to make it strictly illegal or anything. All they can do is continue banning these farming accounts but the problem is with how many customers these gold farmers have. I think this was a great idea by Blizzard because this allows legit players to help govern the market prices. And there are a hell of a lot more legit players than gold farmers/buyers.

Using "Paypal" is a very bad idea, Cashing out your spoils if unlucky will result in your account being frozen and all funds unavailable for 6-8 months+ happened to me selling things on Ebay i called Paypal and was told "my business model did not match theirs" no further explanation of this "Phantom Business model" was given believe me this is not an isolated issue i researched the topic and paypal have done this to thousands of people worldwide netting millions of dollars from unclaimed forgotten frozen accounts, if you are going to trade for real money be very careful using Paypal, I would sincerely hope Blizzard are aware of this and have a "Business model" to ram down Paypal's throats if they ever try to pull this on a Diablo 3 user

P.S dont mean to rant on just warning others

@Zularek: Agreed. For me it's not just the issue of them wigging out and freezing your account for half a year seemingly on a whim (happens quite a bit to folks on eBay who are just trying to sell mundane things, nothing 'illegal'), but also the issue of their customer 'support', which from what I've seen (through multiple customer/former customer posts on the internet) is atrocious.

Oh sure, if you don't have any issues, all seems fine and dandy. But once you do, good luck getting a resolution in a reasonable amount of time, or at all.

This is a bad idea, unless Blizzard manages to flex their corporate muscle and show Pay Pal who's boss. I hope they know what they are doing.

This is incredibly dumb... Just looking at all you people saying this is a good ideas gear shows about how good you are at games in the first place. Lets be honest you are excited about buying gear and not selling it. The people who are going to be good enough to sell their gear are going to make a very small profit that won't even really matter.

Why is blizz doing this again? To make stop people who would use the internet to sell their items anyways? It is just a bull... excuse to make more money off of all of the players. You do know they are "taxing" the items you sell and taking a portion of the profits for themselves. I am going to play D3 because it will be fun. But I am just praying some other company comes out with a decent game that isn't a complete sellout like Blizz.

PST 95% of the people saying this is good just shut up your dumb

@Repeacecraft: So once your grinded every content out, and u just so happen to loot 3 legendaries you'd rather sell it to a vendor? why not cash it to some rich kid and at least make something out of it, even if they do take some of the profit it's better than gaining nothing. Unless u the dumb kid buyin it i see no reason not too.

@Repeacecraft: Actually, Blizzard recognizes that there will be a market around diablo 3 in the same sense that there was one around diablo 2 (which lead to the success of several companies such as d2items dot com). Instead of allowing 3rd party companies to monetize their game they decided to allow the players to profit from the market. This also means that any would be companies will have to operate through blizzard's tool. Blizzard more than likely be offering support for any issues or discrepancies with their auction house so they are now making the d3 market safer for their player base. The market will exist whether this auction house is made or not, you should thank blizzard for making it safer for you.

@Dumshaman: screw that, there will still be third parties undermining the market, there is still the hungry activision logo staring at our wallets, there is still the "bold" leap forward by mixing a game's auction house with cold hard earned cash. If blizzard wants to make a profit, they can advertise in-game, but then again we'll just block it... they have to learn how to stop being greedy, and stop laying off "unneeded" peeps....

@Starpest: If they increased revenue by taxing the AH, they wouldn't have to lay off people to save money. More money lines people's pockets, sure; it also makes a thicker bottom line so they can hire the best talent in the industry to make even better games. While money doesn't always mean best product, it certainly helps. And from what I've read (Glassdoor) Blizz doesn't pay very much compared to industry standard. Help them out!
