PayPal for Diablo III and Battle.net

PayPal for Diablo III and Battle.net

We're pleased to announce that in most regions, PayPal will be our payment-service partner for the Diablo III auction house, allowing players who trade with real-world currency the ability to cash out the spoils of their battle-torn adventures via a PayPal account.

PayPal will also soon be added in several regions as a payment option on Battle.net, providing another convenient and secure payment method for digital purchases of Blizzard products and services.

We’ll share region-related specifics, as well as further details on everything mentioned above, in the near future.  Stay tuned!

@Portac: It is when you have been waiting for diablo 3 for 4-8 years, then all the sudden they rig it up with this nonsense.. ide say its blizz's problem, because they owe the players more then a slap in the face.

People still trading stuff under ground which is a decent market that both Blizzard and Paypal will make some profit from, I don't see any difference between the WOW Real Money tradings and the Diablo 3 RMAH. Matter of fact, the only thing changed is that Blizzard just begin to do it themselves and make it legit. I agree with Palladax, this gonna only make the casual players who have extra money to gear up quicker, and make the nerds some cash to buy a smoothie or some.

@Déjàvu: the thing is... blizzard CREATES the items.. so they are creating money out of thin air... they also control supply and demand... this is known as a monopoly. At least the gold sellers had to acquire it at some point.

Making BIG money wont happen, and even farming will be unlikely because Diablo 3 items are randomised, and grinding is part of the game. Even if you find a +9000 mace, with so many other items available the prices will become pretty stable. The ingame gold is where the money will be, but aparrently there arent that many gold dums (at least not in the beta) so gold wont be so hard to aquire. I dont really see this as being something that could make or break the game, just another feature to make it easier for casual players to gear up, or more hardcore players to get some value out of their gametime.

I guess since WoW already has such a rediculously insane market for gold and items, they cannot implement this mechanic because it would hurt the overall stability of the game. But since they are launching this with D3, they will be able to learn by trial and error and make improvements (also with help from the beta). My question is, could you make big money eventually?

@Caramón: Some of us have been playing blizzard games since the original Diablo. Packing up and moving on without putting in our 2 sense on this sellout of a game does not give our loyalty the dignity it deserves. Changing for the better? you and obama should buy a house together.

@Mastodon: And I can tell you that I've been gladiator a few times, including warrior in Season 5. I've also done a good share of hard mode raiding, but what does that have to do with anything?

I "achieve" things for me and not for the others, I am more than what my achievement list says I am, you are not.

Why would a company ever team up with GE money bank (PAYPAL) a company riddled with fraud lawsuits? First your magazine is cancelled now your "teaming" up with a company responsible of having its employees selling social security numbers. I would love to be at the next investors meeting.

Hacking, stealing credit cards, phishing e-mails, etc.

This entire market stems from illegal real money trading. We are paranoid about almost everything because we marginalized real money trade. Chinese gold farmers will no longer be "stealing" from people, they'll be working. If you don't see how amazing this is, well, I don't know what is.

I don't know about the AH in D3... all I can say is that at least people will not have to deal with money losses over untrustworthy questionable websites.

As for the battle.net implementation, I was waiting for that for a long time! I've been wanting to transfer a toon on another server but couldn't because I don't own a credit card anymore.

They aren't Selling items that you can only aquire with money, that would be gamebreaking. instead all they are doing is if you find a really nice sword but don't want it you have the option to either sell for gold or some quick $$ (a low amount mind you :\ ). you don't HAVE to pay to be the best, nobody is stopping you from farming bael or whoever for items or just using the ingame currency

@Synris: No you don't have to pay to be the best, but if you have the money you CAN pay to be the best. Which is bull!@#$, instead of running into the odd illegally bought char (from e-bay) ruining your groups, you'll be surrounded by well geared morons that don't know how to do anything beyond use their daddy's credit card. And all done with blizzards stamp of approval.

@Iminent: Hey when you find any MMO sheltered from the socioeconomic factors of the real world call me. You can complain all you want but the reality is MMOs since the beginning of time have secondary markets for virtual items or services for real world currency. If you don't like it fire up that dusty Nintendo and play mario bros by yourself. Amount of game played is never relational to skill so your stereotypes have to work both ways baddies come in all forms paid or not paid. I think Blizzard is coming to grips with that reality and making it safer for those who would normally have gone through other untrustworthy channels. I'm neutral about this overall the games come with the same challenges of meeting good and bad people in RL, you can choose to exit or deal with it and keep on moving along. If you feel entitled your $15 a month is worth more than someone else's then sir you need a reality check.

I don't think you people understand. The moment they said they'd have RMAH it was obvious we would be seeing an alliance with PayPal.

People from all over the world play the game, how did you expect different currencies to be handled by Blizzard alone? Blizzard is not PayPal, Blizzard is not a generic e-commerce company. Why would they hire infinite people to create something that already exists?

PayPal isn't shady, people are shady, people trying to abuse it are shady. Let's show the world that gamers aren't as moronic as everyone else.

RMAH is saturating an illegal market with legality. If you trust PayPal less than the Chinese gold sellers that most people use in WoW, well, you know nothing about the world we live in.

tl;dr: "RMAH" already exists, it just happens to be illegal.

Thank you Blizzard.

@Ezreal: PP is shady, as a seller on ebay, I have to say it. PP feezes peoples' account for no reason. My account got frozen by being not able to provide some tracking number for delivery.
D3 has a huge market, and now, PP can freeze another milion accounts for quick money with on interest. Just be aware of using PP, as its shady policies which you will never get to find on their website stated in details.

What a load of c&^$. This just spoiled all my glee that D3 was finally coming out. RL currency has no place in a virtual environment. All it does is drag RL social standings into a video game, just so Wow can sc@%*! some more money from the population.. If you think that Blizzard isn't getting a cut from PayPal for each transaction fee, you have much to learn. Not only did this just cause me to abandon D3, but it just flushed Blizzard and all their products down the virtual toilet. Thank good Old Republic is out soon.

So what I'm sensing here, is that to ever be the best in D3, you must pay real money... Great...
I think the real currency thing for a game is a really bad idea, not all of us want to spend hundreds of dollers to make our character better, thats the point in playing the game, pleaaase dont do this blizz.

@Bloke: Bloke, you should read the same post but in the Diablo 3 community website, you'll be pleasantly surprised on how much more intelligent the comments there are.

@Anthem: no, you spend money if you want to. Stop living in a dream world, people on WoW are consistently buying Gold. Say I buy 15k gold from an illegal website and use that money to buy a BoE weapon. Isn't that the same thing as spending 20-30 bucks on it?

Some people have no time to play but enjoy the game, these people are the ones that'll buy a lot. Some people play a lot and were, literally, wasting their "work" on nothing but fun. Fun is alienating, making money is not, money is reward.

A good player on WoW will get 2500 in arenas in the first week of level 85 with welfare gear, the insecure person that thinks gear is the reason they dont "fare well" are always sad, paranoid people that don't really understand how things work.

@Ånthem: You do not understand the system then. You do not have to buy with your real money on all item(s). Only if you are a PRO gamer and are looking to be the best you will spend your hard earned money. You pay 15$ a month for WoW why not pay a few bucks for D3....
