Raid Finder Coming in Patch 4.3

Raid Finder Coming in Patch 4.3

We are working hard to introduce an exciting new feature to World of Warcraft in patch 4.3: the Raid Finder system. While it presents unprecedented technical hurdles and may change before it’s released, we wanted to provide you with an early look at what we hope to accomplish, and share some details that we’ve worked out, which will lend some insight as to how the new feature is planned to work.

So what is the Raid Finder? It will be a brand new grouping feature that superficially works much like the Dungeon Finder. Instead of five-player dungeons, the Raid Finder is designed to help players quickly and easily form a pick-up raid for a specially tuned version of the current tier of raid content: the Dragon Soul raid. It’s not intended to replace organized raiding though. You’ll still need friends and guild members to help you conquer the toughest raiding challenges that patch 4.3 has to offer.

As we currently plan to roll out the Raid Finder feature in patch 4.3, level-85 players will be able to use it to access a 25-player version of the Dragon Soul raid dungeon, which will culminate in a glorious battle against Deathwing himself. Dragon Soul will be split into three different difficulties. The Raid Finder provides access to a new tier of difficulty, which in this case has split the raid into two wings, each containing four boss encounters. Meanwhile, raiders will still need to join with friends and guildmates to face the more challenging normal and heroic versions of the raid, since the Raid Finder cannot be used to access those higher difficulty levels. Naturally, because they’re harder to defeat, the normal and heroic version of Dragon Soul will drop more powerful lootalong with prestigious rewards such as achievements, titles, and epic mounts. Rich rewards still await those who face the Raid Finder version, which we hope will introduce the thrills and epic experience of raiding to a broader audience than ever before.

You can access the Raid Finder through the ‘Raid’ button in the menu at the bottom of the default user interface. The Raid Finder should feel familiar to Dungeon Finder users. Just fire it up, select your class role, click the ‘Find Raid’ button, and get ready to face Deathwing’s jaw of doom.

FAQ

Q. Raids aren’t dungeons. Who will keep things organized?

A. A Raid Finder raid will require someone to queue as leader. The Raid Finder leader will have a very limited set of powers and cannot change loot type, nor do they have the ability to arbitrarily kick people from the raid. They do have the ability to mark targets and use /raid warning, and can promote other players to be leads as well. To be most successful, each Raid Finder group should have at least one leader who will explain the fights, assign raid markers, and make the tough calls, like who the main tank and off-tanks are.

Q. How will loot be distributed?

A. Automatic rolls and a special version of the Need Before Greed loot rules will apply in Raid Finder raids, just as they do in Dungeon Finder instances. Also, while Dungeon Finder raids aren’t locked, you are only eligible for loot from a boss once per week. This means that if you were present for the defeat of a boss, whether you receive loot or not, then you will automatically pass on loot that drops during later attempts on that boss during the same week.

Q. How will Raid Finder loot differ?

A. Loot acquired through the Raid Finder, including tier set pieces, will be of a lower item level than items acquired from normal or heroic mode versions of the Dragon Soul raid, and its appearance may differ. Also, there are certain items, as well as components for legendary weapons, which will not drop in Raid Finder raids. While individual bosses will not yield Valor Points as they would in other versions of the raid, you can still earn 250 Valor Points for beating the final boss in each wing of the instance.

Tier armor that drops in Raid Finder raids still provides set bonuses, and those bonuses are compatible with the higher item level versions of the armor available in the normal and heroic mode versions of the raid. None of these tier sets will be available for purchase from a vendor via Valor Points.

Q. Will there be an item level requirement to use the Raid Finder?

A. Yes, accessing raids via the Raid Finder will require that participating characters be level 85 and have attained a certain item level, to help ensure that they are prepared for the content they’ll be facing.

Q. Will the Raid Finder be cross-realm?

A. Yes, the Raid Finder will draw players from all realms. As with the Dungeon Finder, it will place some priority on grouping players from the same realm, though not at the cost of increased queue times.

Q. What kind of raid composition will the Raid Finder create?

A. Each Raid Finder raid will include two tanks, six healers, and seventeen damage dealers. As the raid is assembled, the Raid Finder will attempt to balance the group according to armor type, which should help ensure a healthy mix of melee and ranged dps.

Q. Why 25-player only?

A. A 25-player group is actually easier and faster to fill than a smaller group would be, and allows for greater flexibility in raid creation, all of which will help contribute to lower queue times. Also, 25-player raids are less subject to issues with composition or player connectivity.

The Raid Finder version of the Dragon Soul raid will be designed with pick-up raiding in mind. Normal and heroic difficulties will require the greater organization and teamwork found in guild raid groups.

Q. Will I get Call to Arms benefits when using the Raid Finder?

A. We don’t currently plan to apply Call to Arms benefits to the Raid Finder, though that may change in the future.

Q. Will I be locked to a raid I join through the Raid Finder?

A. Since the Raid Finder only offers access exclusively to a specially tuned version of the Dragon Soul raid instance, instance locks will not be enforced for that version. Instance locks will still be enforced for the normal and heroic versions of the raid.

Q. Can I queue with my friends in a party or raid?

A. Yes, you can queue for the Raid Finder individually, in a party, or in a raid. The Raid Finder can be a great tool to help fill those last few slots in a raid.

Q. I’m a dedicated raider with an organized group, what good is the Raid Finder to me?

A. Since instance locks aren’t in play, Raid Finder raids could provide a way for dedicated raiders to gear up alternate characters, fill gaps in their itemization, finish off elusive set bonuses, or just have some fun while preparing to face the normal or heroic version of the raid on the next reset.

Q. Why aren’t other raids available?

A.  The Raid Finder is intended to help players experience the current tier of content. Also, many older raids don’t require a full complement of raiders, making the Raid Finder unnecessary. This is also the first rollout of the feature and we decided to start things simple, rather than potentially delay the feature’s introduction.

If the Raid Finder proves popular, more raid instances may be added to it in the future.

Q. Will Vote Kick still work in the Raid Finder?

A. Yes, though many of the same requirements and restrictions will be in place. For example, kicking too many times can result in a Vote Kick cooldown. Also, the thresholds are different, and several players will need to agree on kicking a candidate before the vote begins. Successful kick votes will require a significant number of Yes votes to pass.

Q. What happens if I leave a Raid Finder raid before it’s over?

A. Players who leave the Raid prematurely will receive a Deserter Debuff, though it will likely be of longer duration than the one applied to users of the Dungeon Finder. This debuff will only apply to the Raid Finder system.

Personally I wish they had Dragon Soul in normal mode to que for. I work a 40-hr a week job, and I am in a smaller guild. I have found it very hard to find use of the raid finder to find a 25 man normal dragon soul while I list my name and comment. Nothing happens. I also was wondering if in the main city trade chat, do they sometimes need 25 man spots to fill? or is it always 10-main? Wasnt sure how hard it would be to get a 25 person normal difficulty pug DS set up vs 10 man.

I love playing WOW but I'm personally not into the social aspect of the game. I work in the retail industry and I have to deal with enough rude and annoying people and that is the last thing I want to worry about when playing a game. I’ve had some bad experiences with people when I first started due to being an inexperienced player (not everyone has played WOW for 5+ years people!). I like to just relax and play on my own (with the exception of an occasional dungeon)
The most frustrating aspect was not being able to do raids. I didn’t do ANY until this came out. I wish all raids are available through raid finder but with a few rules. (1) The gear can only go to those who share the same type of gear, like a person with mail armor can’t get or loot leather armor. (2) It gets reset once per day like heroic dungeons do or every 48 hours (3) The players level has to be within 3-4 levels of that same raid. Example: the raid is a level 70, the player has to be a level 69-71 or 69-72 (4) once a player is 10 levels higher than the raid they can enter the instance on their own accord or with a small group of friends for practice or transmog purposes
If a big enough group of people can get together and do raids without raid finder… more power to you. For us loners (I know there got to be more out there) it is a great option. I started a priest and would love to get the avatar gear, but can only get it through raids.

People should not be able to roll need for a token if they have gotten it already. All the current system does is make it to where people need on everything just because they can. I have been through several raid finder raids and have come out with nothing but repair bills. It really squashes my enthusiasm to even continue playing the game at all.

@Everyone complaining that the raid finder should allow you to loot bosses more than once a week. That's not how it works in a real raid, so sorry, but I doubt that's going to happen.

I agree with them more raids than dragon soul be able to access the nice gear they have and the one week needs to go i believe as well make it like every 2 or 3 days but a week is far to long people want to gear up and get moving but i can understand why you do it this way but with the new exspansion coming out and all the things that you can already do in WOW it can be over load to the average gamer either way just giving you another opinion WOW is still the best game ever !

Seriously need to fix the LFR loot system, second week in a row, that the healing mace dropped and it went to someone who already had it, but needed anyhow. Of course they gave it to there friend who pulled the worst healz in the raid. Bull !@#$. Make the damn things unique or something

I really don't care so much about the older raids in the LFR. The thing I am dissapointed about is that we only get to queue for one dungeon split in half.
Why do we not even get to queue for the other Catcalysm raids that are new? It is very difficult to get into a raid without the LFR tool. To add to that (I know that it has been like this for a while but with the new LFR I think they should change this) make the raid resets more often so that when all of the loot is for some healer, I can atleast get another chance at DPS soon.

The main flaw i seem to have found with using the raid finder in general is the lack of a 10 man finder. I myself don't have the Ram to...happily run the 25 man version. It just seems a little unfair to those of us that don't have the computer for the job. I pay monthly too.

How does this work with druid tanks? Our gear is leather and so looks more for dps the rolls would be geared away from us as a tank since the loot rules would look at it as dps gear,am I wrong?

@Daxxarri (the OP):

When I access the Raid Finder, it won't let me que for the raid. It doesn't explain why, or refer me to any source of information as to what the requirements are. I meet all of the requirements mentioned -- if vaguely -- in your FAQ, so what is your problem?

Okay, so wayyy down here at comment 3k- I was all psyched up for this. I've even taken interest in WoW again and pve in particular... and then I find out it's one raid split in two. I've begged Blizzard for this feature for YEARS!!! And again, they find a way to cater it almost exclusively to endgame hardcore raid guilds. No older raids, not even raids from the current expac. Just endgame. Soo very disappointing Blizzard. And I'm sure with all the people now screaming "fail," this will be the alpha and the omega for cross-realm raiding. Those of us who wanted this for older raids or to better equip for endgame will once again be totally out of luck. Thanks for nothing.

@Sevyk:
They said that if it proves popular that they will make it available for other raids. but as these are "tuned down" versions of the actual raids, they will have to tweak those raids as well.

I have some problems with the current loot system as well. I did 1 run of raid and finished it. Nothing was dropped at all that I wanted or need, so I passed on all of them. I didn't even roll greed, I click the "x" on the box and closed it. Next thing I know in my next raid, I can't roll on anything.
I mean, if I pass on a roll for a boss drop, I should have second chance.

just wondering why they cant make rolling on gear better. like why should a holy pally get gear jacked from a ret pally just cause they are the same class. i played my hunter today and got my bow taken by a warrior that doesnt even need a agi based bow. its stupid.

@Rhayel: a holy pally cant get gear jacked from a ret. The "special version of need before greed" adds 100 to the rolls of players q'd as a certain roll, if the item pertains to that roll. E.G. spirit healing mace - holy pallies' rolls will be 100+ roll, ret pallies' rolls will be just a regular roll.

I have read many of these comments and I am really not surprised what I have been reading. Some are saying that they should be able to do it twice a week, for one other raids aren't given twice a week, so why should this be any different. Others are saying that they aren't being able to win loot the first time and that if they don't win anything that they should be able to run again, I got a question, can you do that in regular raids? no, so why would they do it here. Same thing happens in other raids, you can win loot or lose loot either way the boss is dead, you lost your chance for that week. Seems like most people just want free loot, well that isn't going to happen, just be happy that they gave us this raid finder as an option.

You can only have a chance to win an item off a boss once a week, but one person can win all the loot from one boss? One Person winning two of the same token is just not cool. Is there not loot rules on items that differ from caster dps and healers? Same should apply to someone winning the same token in one run. Well I guess now they have one for main spec and off spec now.
It would be to hard to implement a rule so that some one can't roll on a raid finder tier token if they won one of the same kind in the past or any item in that manner.
I wonder how your going to procede in the following weeks. People will now be grouping up to help each other win items for each other, even though they allready had that item before from the past week.

This system is absolutely absurd, there needs to be a better system, the way the horde work is if one piece drops and they win they automatically leave. The reason for this is that they pretty much know they'll get nothing else out of the raid and so staying for lols isn't fun, You blizzard, you need to make a DKP system on wins/losses. i've done it 4 times on 4 toons every boss and i must say, i'm fed up with it. if you don't win a loot it shouldn't mean you can't roll on that boss again, if you don't win a loot you should be able to come back to the boss and do it over and over to get that loot, rather than having one guy luck out with the "bonus" who rolls a 60+100 bonus where as to i roll a 90 with a 54 bonus, i mean, atleast take out the bonus so we don't have to lose to a omfg button. on top of that i've had several raids consist of 2 tanks in full dps gear and spec who are like "i just wanted to avoid the que time", which is absolutely absurd. This is an enormous amount of QQ for one post, but just fix everything to do with this system please, it's seriously not worth the stress.

it should be win one piece from boss a week cause I don't even want to mess with raid finder again after doing it once. Spending 3 hours in raid finder and winning absolutely nothing. I will never do riad finder again with these stupid current rules... p.s. fix the transmog tooo it terrible ended up selling my 60 pvp gear because i couldnt wear it
