Gold Selling Stance and Thoughts on the Guardian Cub
We’d like to thank everyone who’s provided feedback or questions on the Guardian Cub announcement and how allowing it to be traded relates to our stance against gold selling. Our hope today is to discuss our desire for a more secure and enjoyable game environment, and provide some clarity on how the Guardian Cub fits into that goal in its own small way.
To begin with, we need to reiterate what we know are the facts of third-party gold sales, and how they impact World of Warcraft players. We've been hard at work for years now thwarting gold farming tactics, and we know that only a very small percentage of gold is actually "farmed" these days. The vast majority of gold that third parties sell to players is obtained through account compromises. Your friend, guild mate, or family member who had their account hacked was specifically targeted for their gold so that it could be turned around and sold to another player looking to buy some. Having your account compromised is one of the most negative experiences a player can have, and dealing with hacked accounts makes up a significant portion of customer support time on a day-to-day basis. These issues have serious and far-reaching consequences on our ability to continue delivering epic game experiences and high-quality support for our players.
We’ve gone to great lengths to educate, inform, and provide increased account security for players through devices like the mobile and physical Battle.net Authenticator. We provide fun incentives for people to use those devices, and we continue to increase our efforts to educate players, block countless phishing and scamming attempts, improve our detection methods to stop account compromises before they begin, and take a harsher stance on third-party gold buying itself.
With all that in mind, we come to the new tradable Guardian Cub pet. By letting players trade this pet, we’re giving those who want to participate in the Pet Store without spending real money a way to buy the pet with gold instead. This also means that players can buy one for the purpose of trying to sell it in-game, creating the potential for players to exchange real money for gold in a way that does not lead to account compromises. Of course, all that comes with the pretty important caveat that demand for the pet will be finite, and there’s no guarantee you’ll be able to find a buyer.
While this one little pet can never come close to “solving” the above issues with third-party gold selling and account compromises, it may help us determine whether we’re able address these ongoing problems in a safe, creative way that ultimately has a positive impact on the game experience overall. Our hope is that through all of our increased efforts we can make World of Warcraft a safer, more secure, and more enjoyable game for all of our players.

Besides, why not get an authenticator? The perks for various stuff such as getting an authenticator must be intriguing enough to you, considering the fact that you read this article...

Getting D3 free is a sweet deal and the charged would be a $25 mount no doubt. So i guess i should just shut up, play the rest of this month as planned, leave, play my d3 that i get free in the yearly pass then try Pandaria beta when it comes out. Worst case scenario i end my wow sub at the year's end and i still have my D3! But yea....
THE PET SHOULD BE BOA! lol

Why doesn't Blizzard just sell gold? Offer gold packages to people for different amounts of money. Why not leave the pet store items as boa for people who've been collecting pets and have multiple toons?
This would make everyone happy and fully eliminate the gold sellers.
A percentage could go to charity!!!!
The Venture Co
then basically items in game would be nothing more than a rich man's game

What do you think it is now?

What's the point in playing extra toons and spending the time to gather up achievements or rep when after 5+years of the game a one time use pet is being sold in the pet stores? Give players a chance to spend real money to be able to auction off the item to get gold? Smells like Farmville greed to me lol
Oh well what's done is done i guess and no matter what we say this change imo will have more impact than most can imagine right now.
(negative impact)
I think you should give players who signed up for the yearly pass before learning of this new pet store one use system the chance to opt out of the pass. I know for one i would opt out of both the passes i have purchased. I won't quit wow but i certainly won't play 12 months straight now, that's for damn sure.

1. Selling items for real cash will hurt players as people won’t play as much thus making grouping harder. (as people will stop playing wow this will result in less interest in other blizzard games, in the long run this will hurt blizzard’s profits which is most likely why they have yet to implement a system since they could easily arrange it)
2.a. These new point should be earned through any game play (pvp, raiding, fishing ets). Thus I think the achievement points could be used. So say I want a chef’s hat I can either spend weeks parked in dalaran doing BORING cooking quest after cooking quest or I could use my achievement points to buy one thus allowing me to gain the item I desire but through say pvp achievements (which is far more entertaining than collecting 4 wild mustards and 4 rhino dogs every day for 40+ days).
2.b. Alternately the items can be categorised into groups and a set number of achievements points in that group will allow me to purchase items from that group (i.e. I have to do “profession” achievements to get a chef’s hat, I have to do “dungeons & raids” achievements to get raid items this then opens the door to achieve more points by doing quests/dailies in that area)
3. This new system will have to be weighted so the number of points need to obtain, for arguments sake, a chef’s hat will equate to the time/effort to do 40-50 Dalaran cooking dailies.
So in closing if indeed you want to improve player experience you should implement a similar system as describes above or give the player a choice of BOA pets or pets to trade. Alternately we can continue this little relationship where by you take every last cent from us that you can without losing too much business. If you choose the second option at least have the dignity to call a spade a spade and don’t pretend as if you are doing us favours by forcing someone to spend $10 a pet per character.

There is a reason why people can buy mounts and compainon pets from the wow store, its because they don't give them ANY advantage over players who don't buy them..
You start selling gold in the Wow Store and not only do you ruin the in game economy but you provide an unfair advantage to people who are able to spend money in the blizzard store.
And as for not being able to experience content, have you tried creating a raiding team?
you want to know how people got experience in raiding? they created teams from friends in game and then researched fight mechanics and learned from wiping on bosses. And besides even IF you did get into some big raiding guild you still probably wouldn't get much of a chance to raid anyway because guilds usually have their Core team of players and only if people in the core team don't show up do they pull other people from the guild into the raid.
Do what my friends and I did, start a guild, get a 10man team together and go smash over the Ice Crown Citidel, then move onto Bastion of Twilight and Black Wing Decent following that move onto Firelands, we spent three weeks doing 'old' content and gained alot of experience from it, now we're slagging through Firelands at a reasonable pace
