Coming Soon: Battle.net Balance

Coming Soon: Battle.net Balance

Soon, we’ll be introducing a new feature called Battle.net Balance that will give players an alternate way to purchase Blizzard products and services directly through their Battle.net account. Players will be able to “charge up” their Battle.net Balance using a variety of payment methods, and then use their Battle.net Balance to buy services like World of Warcraft character transfers, digital products like pets and mounts, and more. Players will also be able to use their Battle.net Account Balance to buy items and store their earnings from Diablo III’s currency-based auction house once the game is released.

We’ll be rolling out the new Battle.net Balance feature in the weeks ahead -- but in the meantime, check out our Battle.net Balance FAQ to find out more about how it’s going to work.

Mostly, it looks like this service is for kids who play. Their parents can load money to their account, and they can use it for the things they want in the game. THIS DOES NOT REFER TO GEAR, OR MOUNTS/PETS THAT ARE EARNED IN-GAME. Again, as Waldo stated, you guys just need to practice some reading comprehension. Character transfers and other services can already be bought, as can CERTAIN mounts (ex. Celestial Steed) and pets (ex. Soul of the Aspects.) The word 'gear' is literally not ANYWHERE in the actual article, just in your comments. This will change nothing, except help certain users better control their finances. Silly nerds.

you people can't read... this is service is like microsoft points you buy a prepaid balance card at gamestop or w.e and then you can buy mounts, pets, xfers, and what not. Its an alternative way for people that dont have access to a credit card to buy mounts, pets, and xfers, and other stuff you can buy with a credit card.

Why are people !@#$%ing? Is it bad that Blizzard wants to stop the people who are getting hacked by 'gold' sellers, not-so-trustworthy sources, and phishers? I'd hope not.
Those of you worried about people not getting their 'gear' (Which is only mounts and/or pets, gg) through the conventional way, heads up.
They already can get them in the same way as of right now.

Whats everyone crying about? This has nothing to do with going Free-to-Play. So you can add funds for things you could already buy with real money, whats the big deal?

This idea is STUPID. I hope your company runs face first into the ground. I'll play the game until then. :D But if you go free to play or something along those lines, or offer gear in exchange for money I'll drop you guys faster than a hot sack of s***. Thanks. <3

Whatever happened to just earning your gear, mounts, etc. by playing the game. If you ask me, this is one of the biggest reasons WOW is going downhill fast. Hey Blizzard when did you stop being a game company and became an evil corporate empire. Way to go... UGH.

This is what steam has been doing for a very long time, and i believe its about time. but @ Ntoleather I agree that this will be a much more difficult thing for some players to maintain their security. In the future i would like to see blizzard make a downloadable Authenticator that would simultaneously sync your computer to their network. this way they will know if its coming from a different ip address ect. And as for the micro-transactions, idk lets think about the DIII Auction house for a minute; maybe this is also a hint that DIII will be coming out within a couple of months. But who knows =( It's Blizzard after all, so it has to be flawless in order for them to feel comfortable enough to put it out.

@Eosia, I completely agree with the degradation of games with F2P models, they basically suck. However, I feel that while the above option is great for people who don't know what to give their WoW player...this gives hackers a juicier target than ever before.

This sounds like the first steps in creating a system that will support micro-transactions and the free-to-play model. I'm hoping that if they do implement a system such as that, the roll it out only to new games and not preexisting ones such as WoW. WoW would completely crumble on a free-to-play/micro-transaction model.

This almost sounds like X-Box points and I just read an article that they are going to phase that out by the end of the year cause people really don't like it.

Now if they could only find a way to balance one of their games.

I wish they would just allow the "time cards to be "point cards" you could convert to "Blizzard bucks" to purchase what you need for WoW.

@Cornwall: yup cornwall its awesome. i can't wait for all this new AH stuff. i would assume that most everyone throwing temper tantrums prolly are not casual and have alot of time and no money. for us casual players with less time than money this is really cool. they should allow time cards to be sold for ingame gold over the AH for wow just like EvE online does so people with time can trade in the ingame time they spent for playtime to a person with more money to waste.

It says charge up the balance with a variety of payment options... That means things like major CC, Paypal, Bill me later... They are trying to implement a better means for people to be able to experience wow besides a major credit card or game time card if they so desire...

@Lickmydk: the catch is that they'll probably make the game free to play, and have the option of "charging" your balance to buy cool stuff... it lessens the quality of the game overall, just from rich kids having everything in the game, blah blah, yada yada... i'm kinda not looking forward to it.

@Perdedor: yep, they probably piloted it with F2P 1-20 and they are going to see how far. So there will be a bunch of people who are F2P playing. Though from a business/marketing standpoint, it kinda makes sense - that is where most games are going, and that way you get us who pay a subscription, but you also get people playing who may make a bunch of one-time purchases - will increase revenue. I feel like I have seen this fail in many F2P games, but DCUO actually I feel does a good job at it (limiting content and etc. oppose to just vanity items). Though, a large dispairity between who are subscribed and those who are F2P may occur and we will end up with some type of OccupyAzeroth thing...

@Xiahoukai: I wouldn't mind expansion packs, but selling those cool stuff will make this game crap. Look at Skyrim, The Witcher 2, or Battlefield 3. Never seen them do something that cheap. The way they will make more profit is release some quality expansions in the future which I am fine with. Blizzard on the other hand is getting uber greedy. You are my fav company, but I hope swtor and the future upcoming mmos bring you down to your knees and realize how greedy you have been lately.

So this can be earned with out paying real money as well.. So in theory I can stop paying real $$ to play WoW? As it says game time can be bought..
Login to rate
@Wereick: Game time can be bought with the currency you load on the account though, so it'll still be real money. However, you could sell your gold from Diablo 3 in the RMAH, and use that to pay for WoW. :)
