2011 Global Writing Contest Winners

2011 Global Writing Contest Winners

The wayward plans concocted by judges of the 2009 and 2010 Global Writing Contests have been foiled, and the Ocunomicon has been cast back into the howling Sightless Abyss whence it came. This victory would not have been possible without you, the writers, bravely wielding the ink-drenched Quills of a Thousand Truths! Even with two years' worth of ocular fortitude strengthening their retinal acumen, the judges were unable to withstand the sheer number and magnificent quality of this year's entries...

... especially considering that an entire mountain of short stories was airdropped on top of them.

With the smoke cleared and the errant judges corralled and subdued, the victors of the 2011 Global Writing Contest have emerged. Behold now, your champions!

  • "The Exit" by Danny McAleese

In addition, the winner will receive a Doomhammer™ hammer by Epic Weapons and copies of the StarCraft Archive, the Diablo Archive, the Warcraft Archive, the Warcraft: War of the Ancients Archive, and World of Warcraft: Chronicles of War. All books will be signed by Chris Metzen, their respective cover artists, and the Creative Development Publishing team.

When will this contest open up again? I'm probably fixing to buy a bunch of the archives and start studying and hopefully get some pretty good stuff going. :)

I do a lot of writing myself. I love it! I remember reading about this and thinking about entering the contest but I think you need to be over the age of 18. Anyways, I'll probably sign up next year!

I do write fanfiction, but I have no inspiration for WoW stories.

Sence Blizz killed off all of the San'layn, all my characters would be non-canon.

@Uleria: that depends. Unless itsin the rules, You dont necessarily have write about current WoW events. You could write about a time period where the San'Layn is still around. Though I am saying this without any knowledge of the contest rules and any restriction you might have on the story's content.

I find it.....unsettling.... when I see that a multi-billion dollar gaming company trademarks a word so simple as "Soon". Surely the Cataclysm of Azeroth is at an end, but the final undoing of the real world has only just begun. C'thun have mercy on the next word Blizzard attempts to trademark.

@Eliet: Once a year, they'll post all of the rules and how to enter once they open next years (or you can search back articles of the site for this years.) They'll keep it open for a few months and then judge it and post the results.

@Littleblue: I also recommend reading all the back winners, assuming you can find them to see what the Judges find appealing. After all, those who write and do research walk home with all the goodies.

@Annesh: WOW! Annesh / Dave... this is by far 10/10. I feel as if I learned more from your writing than anything. Such a personal view on the transformation, the decay of life, to something, lifeless and undead. 10/10 sir, 10/10...
