Dragon Soul Difficulty Changes

Dragon Soul Difficulty Changes

During the scheduled server maintenance on the week of January 31, the Dragon Soul raid will become enveloped by the “Power of the Aspects” spell, reducing the health and damage dealt of all enemies in the raid by 5%. This spell will grow progressively stronger over time to reduce the difficulty and make the encounters more accessible. The spell will affect both normal and Heroic difficulties, but it will not affect the Looking for Raid difficulty.

The spell can also be disabled by talking to Lord Afrasastrasz at the beginning of Dragon Soul, if a raid wishes to attempt the encounters without the aid of the Dragon Aspects.

For those of you who raided in Firelands and/or Icecrown you’re no doubt aware that as time goes on we want to keep people progressing by adjusting the difficulty. For any number of reasons a group may be having difficulty on a specific encounter each week, and our intent in adjusting the content is to ensure the ability to keep progressing, enjoying the content, and gearing up. With Icecrown we progressively buffed the players, and while this slow progression (and ability to opt-out of the buff) were both beneficial, it led to an expectation of your characters power, and once you left the raid you could certainly feel less effective. For Firelands we attempted to fix that by nerfing the content instead of buffing players, but we nerfed the content difficulty all at one time, which was counterproductive for players who really didn’t need as severe a change as we made. With Dragon Soul we’re attempting to do the best of both by having a progressive nerf to the content, keeping player power constant while providing small increases in assistance over a long period of time, as well as allowing players to opt-out of the assistance by speaking to Lord Afrasastrasz.

We hope you continue to enjoy Dragon Soul, and that these changes encourage you to attempt a higher difficulty, or just keep pushing to down that next boss.

So how do you see the debuff does it show on your buffs like ICC did? We just started 25 man this week and we pugged a couple and we believe one of them trolled us and took the nerf off and it got progressively harder after Morchock with the pugs and low dps. Quest is here how can we turn the buff back on or even see that we have it or don't.

@Sangmourne: It is not a player buff like ICC. It is a mob/boss debuff. Target any killable mob or boss. You will see the debuff.

Yup, Exact Same Issue on our raid. Someone turned it off. Which basically ruined the rest of the night for the rest 20+ people.

It's simply solved. One of the NPC in the entrance. You talk to him "Ohh, yes, I'd like to have the buff again".

Because waiting to try Soft Resets, trying to reset the instance, re log, nothing worked and we just kept 20 people waiting standing around doing nothing.

I appreciate the availability of the progressive nerf to the raid as a help to more casual guilds and pugs, but there are a few changes I'd love to see implemented:
1) Make it so that only the raid leader (and maybe assistants) can turn off the nerf. It is exceptionally annoying to suddenly discover that the nerf is turned off, and no one will admit to having done it.
2) Make it possible to toggle the nerf on or off on a boss by boss basis. Many guilds have the first four bosses on farm, and don't need any extra help, but can certainly use the help on later bosses for progression.
3) Make it mean something to run the raid with the nerf turned off, some kind of additional incentive, like a bonus drop (gear or gems), or a higher chance for something like a mount drop or extra Essence of Destructions or Motes of Darkness, or something. Maybe some achievements or titles for nerf off as opposed to nerf on. Anything to make it desirable to run without the nerf for guilds complaining that the nerf makes it too easy but won't actually turn it off for no other reason.

why the effect is bad :

for example if it was nerfed by 100% (so it still drops epics) would you still call it content if you can one shot it ? by 1 shot I mean use 1 ability and boss dies,

it is definitely accessible, and lets say people can turn off the buff if they want (to go back to what it currently is)

its the equiv of giving out free epics which is what the debuff slowly accomplishes since people can bad and still get gear.

them getting gear isn't a issue for me but to be "competitive" you have to use the debuff to progress unless if you've finished before the nerf took place then it is irrelevant for you if it happens.

Blizzard employees have demonstrated here that "choice to shut it off" is just a token reply to dismiss complaints, not a feature anyone would want to use. I find it interesting that developer resources are allocated to features who are useful only to forums CMs, and their "use" of the feature consists of mentioning it rhetorically to dismiss feedback, not using it. Additionally, dismissing feedback is exactly what CMs aren't supposed to do.

So we have developers wasting resources, so that CMs can ignore feedback. I'm not saying this is malicious or deceitful, only that clearly something went wrong somewhere, if -this- is the result. The result speaks for itself. Something is wrong with the entire system.

@Morsk: We deliberately shut it off every week until we completed the whole raid as it was meant to be (i.e. the original difficulty level) Only now that we've got all bosses down the way they were designed, will we use the feature.

I would like to start off by saying the assistance in the Dragon Soul raid is greatly appreciated. Proggression is great. It leave's the player with the feeling of accomplishment aswell as the knowledge on how to do it again. It's hard to go in a raid such as Dragon Soul and one shot each boss ur first time in there. The expectations from the experienced player towards the causal player are high and thats not right. It's not right for a player to join a raid and be kicked after two wipes and be cussed in vent or mumble because of that persons lack of experience that someone in the raid has or the whole raid has all together. It leaves people feeling like a grain of salt and or just worthless. After all that said again the assistance from blizzard is greatly appreciated. thanks blizzard!!!!!!!!!

If they would JUST add an achievement for each boss (or even one for the entire raid) that would require being defeated at the original heroic difficulty level by "turning off the debuff", it would solve all problems people are complaining about!

The only issue i see with this is that any one (disgruntled) raid member can turn this off on a fight that we seem to struggle with, makin it harder as a group. i feel that only the raid leader should be able to turn this option off.

I see no issue here. While it might be fun in a sense to struggle for the first 50 or so attempts, it can become very taxing on the guild. As for those who already accomplished the kill and don't want "lesser" guilds to succeed; grow up. The nerf should not concern you and if you feel it unfair to be put in place before you got to finish it completely nerf free? Well, you lost your shot and you are to blame. Maybe you aren't as 1337 as you thought.

i don't think people understand why "elite" players get so pissed off. its not THAT the content gets Nerfed. its that The people who clear the nerfed content get the same things that they have been working hard for. its really annoying to work you !@# off to get Said title. just to see in a months time that every bad player and the dog has it. i think they need 2 Change the achivement's when they Nerf content this heavily. and take away Certain things such as Achivement mounts and title's for people who clear it after nerf.

@Luvstogank: personally I agree with you on this. I remember getting achieves in ICC and then they nerfed it and pugs were getting the same achieve every time.. I think boss achieves such as the Ive Gone and Made a Mess (First one that came to mind) shouldnt be available to those after expansion and/or with nerf stats. I understand the Idea behind it but it is like taking a dump on top end players who busted their balls to get it done. If they Nerf it they should also drop what u can get from it IE lower stat items/achievements/quest items.

@Luvstogank: I think you misunderstand the meaning of my comment... Just like with a legendary the value of your "Achievements" diminishes with time... Should every player miss out on the opportunity to another mount and/or title simply because you(including every other "elite" player) feel entitled to some form of compensation? Everyone pays the same fees, you don't get special treatment for time spent in a raid. I do believe titles from raid achievements are still limited (don't take that to the bank). Also I'd like to refer that you read closer into my comment if you haven't already.

@Billiethekid: Please explain to me how that suggestion changes anything? Will the content not become trivial in the next major content patch/expansion and still available to all? The nerf is so that people struggling with progression can finally see the end content doesn't nerfing item drops completely ruin the point?

@Luvstogank: you dont understand that blizz dont give a #$^* about the 25% of "elete" players or guilds. they try to make the content obtainable to the other 75% of us that pay there bills. keep the underdogs happy, we keep buying another month of WOW.
the Elite players QQ "i worked so hard for this title" WAAAAAAA good for you your in a guild that carried you thru the content. there is alot of servers out there and there are only so many guilds to join, and they already have there core raid team filled. just rember they dont nerf it right off the bat. You Elite guilds have time to do your hard work. if you dont think the little guys still work hard to get where you got your mistaken.

@Luvstogank: He has a great point and giving players who down heroic DW 9 months from now with a 30% buff should not have the same exact achievement as someone who spent many hours working hard to get it downed it pre-nerf. If they'd just add an achievement per boss or for DS as a whole requiring the original heroic difficulty level, everyone would be happy.

I Personally think it is pretty cool that Blizzard is giving the players the
-option- to take it off just incase people want to see how good they actually are, but I have one question if you turn it off (and you get completely Screwed) can you turn it back on... Is there achievements for beating it with the buff off? If So I would like to do it just to do it for the Achievement.

I'm going to put this simply and in a new comment, ITS A GAME!
If you want bragging rights(NOBODY cares) beat the content before it's nerfed. DS was announced MONTHS in advance. Your idiotic rantings and mindless dribble are hereby invalid because you FAILED to complete the content BEFORE it was made accessable to everyone.

@Clôud: Negative impact on the game ,You Say? I hate to tell you all guild have always been the same ...They have their little groups of people they know personally or their special little clicks sitting around talking on vent and then those they just invite to a guild to grow it ,make it look bigger in the old days ,Now they just want as many people as they can just to put crap in their G Banks and level their guilds ..Every guild I have been part of from the start of the game on has been exactly the same ..No raid team sticks together ,only a few hang out on vent and many many damn good players never get a chance to join in on their raids ..Social aspect of the game? Ha! ..You are the one responsible for being social if you want to be social bizz can't force anyone to be social or non social ..That is a personal choice..I choose to play most of this game solo ...I like it that way...I do not like being forced to join a guild in order to gain the extra perks and I am not talking about the crap you buy ...Guilds for the most part make this game no fun ..I would much rather join a group for a fight and never see most of them again if I get along with someone then I will add them as a friend ,If I don't.,, adios...
