Dragon Soul Difficulty Changes

Dragon Soul Difficulty Changes

During the scheduled server maintenance on the week of January 31, the Dragon Soul raid will become enveloped by the “Power of the Aspects” spell, reducing the health and damage dealt of all enemies in the raid by 5%. This spell will grow progressively stronger over time to reduce the difficulty and make the encounters more accessible. The spell will affect both normal and Heroic difficulties, but it will not affect the Looking for Raid difficulty.

The spell can also be disabled by talking to Lord Afrasastrasz at the beginning of Dragon Soul, if a raid wishes to attempt the encounters without the aid of the Dragon Aspects.

For those of you who raided in Firelands and/or Icecrown you’re no doubt aware that as time goes on we want to keep people progressing by adjusting the difficulty. For any number of reasons a group may be having difficulty on a specific encounter each week, and our intent in adjusting the content is to ensure the ability to keep progressing, enjoying the content, and gearing up. With Icecrown we progressively buffed the players, and while this slow progression (and ability to opt-out of the buff) were both beneficial, it led to an expectation of your characters power, and once you left the raid you could certainly feel less effective. For Firelands we attempted to fix that by nerfing the content instead of buffing players, but we nerfed the content difficulty all at one time, which was counterproductive for players who really didn’t need as severe a change as we made. With Dragon Soul we’re attempting to do the best of both by having a progressive nerf to the content, keeping player power constant while providing small increases in assistance over a long period of time, as well as allowing players to opt-out of the assistance by speaking to Lord Afrasastrasz.

We hope you continue to enjoy Dragon Soul, and that these changes encourage you to attempt a higher difficulty, or just keep pushing to down that next boss.

@Yubaba: I'm pretty casual, and I say. Don't nerf it. We have LFR for our content.

can i plz just haz 9 or 24 NPC's i can purchase that I can gear and raid with and just magnify any mistakes I make on the fight have them make mistakes, etc? I'm willing to raid A LOT of hours but not many share that same mentality...

I don't think it is good or bad that they are doing this but...

I just don't see the point of this buff since we have lfr already.
The reason you would want to nerf content is so more people can experience end game content. But when lfr is already available I just feel this is sort of redundant.

In new news, players now have the option to get FREE LFR LOOT.
If you like a challenge you can "opt" out of getting this loot.
Just go speak to a vendor and you can acquire every piece of loot that drops in LFR for FREE.. Once again if you like a challenge you have the option to NOT get it... which we expect players to do to keep it REAL!

This is just a low blow. At first the problem was people needed to see the content. We got LFR which was a great addition to the game. But this is going too far. Yes we know we can turn it off, but no one will because the people who want it off is such a small part of the group. No matter what anyone says now it is no longer about seeing the content. As a game designer your choices create the incentives, and moves like this make it more about the gear than about the content.

For the love of God, Please make it so that only the raid leader can turn off the buff. I've had enough trolling in ICC to see where this would go...

I really dont understand the need to nerf the heroic modes at all. Normals maybe, but not heroics.

I agree with the common feeling, perhaps keep this nerf for Normal BUT dont let it hit the heroic modes.

Dont get me wrong our guild only last week downed normal Madness but then again what do you expect when we only cleared RAG AFTER DS hit, that in itself shows how easy DS is and its a shared joke among our guild.

LFR - for people to see content and get some gear
Normal - For casuals
Heroic - For the more hardcore.

Sorry if that sounds elitist but I am pretty sure thats what was intended, otherwise once again why bother tagging a heroic tag onto it.
Heroic DS with a in the future 30% buff to players.. doesnt sound very heroic at all.

And for guilds struggling the real question is why even bother now? Just wait a bit for the buffs to come out and faceroll keyboard watch I will do it right now 1qw2e3r41t5y6u17i8o91oijuh1ytre32ety71323847581346801223634729t1af781t21270w11efo3tu124f037tf278g114f1071tr2fp3ui1g334r10278tf[817891116uipgqwfoupt18018012312341234123412341234123412341234123412342412341234

Some of you need to calm down. I blame you guys for not downing content fast enough. If you want to keep it difficult try running without a tank or heals. Enter LFR with only 5 toons in all greens... if it's so easy.

No seriously try it. I wanna see what happens. Post a video. That would be awesome if it can be done.

holy jesus man stop complaining the fact of the matter is you probably arent that good that youre 8/8 heroic and this is taking all the fun out of wow. secondly its an optional buff, please read the post before posting a #!!# head comment. third !@#$ TBC and Vanilla if you wana go play those then go to a private server and stop %^-*!ing about the old days. Finally this is being applied so people can finish heroic content instead of grinding it out for hours on end then giving up and finishing it on normal. I dont normally post on forums because its a cesspoll full of rude vocal minorities and the occasional good person, if you dont want things to be changed then start a petition dont @#$%^ about it on the forums.

This is why Blizzard does it:

I have completed the LFR version. I have a pretty good gearscore. Now what?

Do normal. Gotcha. I am not in a guild, I don't have a static schedule. I find different random players each week. I can't beat the content with these players. Since I can't beat this content with the random players, what do I do? Well, the buff gives me a way to slowly progress. Gating, if you will.

Same thing once I beat normal.

If you don't create multiple achievements, for the different difficulties (no buff achievement, buff X, Y, Z achievement) then what's the point? Just nerf the content like you did in Firelands.

If you however, create a way for people to see how you killed a particular boss (if only for bragging rights) then yeah, this sounds like a good idea.

I approve of this policy for normal mode raiding... but I do agree that it makes little sense to allow "optional nerfing" of HEROIC mode. With Dragon Soul, you basically have "easy" (LFR), "regular" (normal), and "hard" (heroic) difficulty levels. For those who have seen the content in LFR, but are having trouble progressing their character through normal raiding, a progressive nerf to the content is fine in my book. Once players have downed normal mode (whether nerfed or not), let the heroic mode stay as it is - a fierce challenge. One that will bring a thorough sense of accomplishment when it is finally completed.

You're joking. ICC I slightly SLIGHTLY understood, but Dragon Soul normal mode is an absolute JOKE. You have LFR, why do this now? Isn't LFR meant to allow people to see the content at a level that is easier and more convenient, and aren't normal modes for casuals who want to push a little further? And heroic modes, why the hell do you even want to affect those at all? They're heroic for a reason!

@Greasewald: Click off the debuff, problem solved.
Login to rate
@Jonsie: People just "wanted to see the content" Thats why we have LFR. DS normal is easy enough already. Let the people who want difficulty have it. (And no, you can click off the debuff, but no raid leader will allow it. So unless you have a guild of "no debuff" people you're kinda screwed.

@Jonsie: No, problem not solved. Guilds competing for server firsts will be pressured into keeping it on, and it'll kill competition. Recruitment for guilds that opt to keep it off will be at a stand-still, because who wants to be in a guild that will be 3/8 HM by the end of the month when they can be in a guild that is 6/8 HM due to buffs? And no one who opts out will ever make it to WoL either, which some people try to rank on.

I see people are forgetting the fact LFR actually takes out certain boss mechanics where this is just a numbers nerf to all the mobs in the raid.

Also, to the people complaining about an optional buff, just stop. Just like ICC, you can easily turn it off if its too causal for your tastes.

"But we can't turn it off because we have to stay competitive with the other guilds!"

Then stop complaining about it. I commend Blizz for actually wanting more people to see their content. If it was up to some of these raiders, only 1% of the population would actually step into a raid, let alone complete one.

@Liaka: I can see content with LFR? Do you mean heroic content? Not understanding what you were trying to say here.

The point of my message is simply this: don't complain to hell and high water about an optional buff, one you can easily turn off, and then turn right back around and say "But I'll still use it." If you raid for a personal challenge (which is perfectly fine), then why care so much about how fast other guilds are downing content?

If this buff was mandatory and you couldn't turn it off, I could see the gripe. But its optional. I don't see point behind all the complaining.
