Children's Week is Here

Children's Week is here! Taking place once a year in Orgrimmar, Stormwind, Dalaran, and Shattrath City, this week-long celebration is a time to give back to the innocents orphaned by war.

This year, the holiday will begin on April 29 and will end on May 5. Take an orphan under your wing, perform the tasks you are presented with and you’ll show one of Azeroth’s children that you care (and be rewarded with a special in-game pet to boot).

Many orphans wish they had someone special to show them the wonders of the world. Throughout the year, they often spend their time wandering around their home cities of Stormwind or Orgrimmar, dreaming of the day they'll be old enough (and big enough) to venture out into the world to see the sights their parents would have shown them.

During Children's Week, brave heroes of the Horde and the Alliance can make these kids' dreams come true! Visit your faction’s local orphanage to take one of these children on a whirlwind adventure around the world.

Children's Week in Eastern Kingdoms or Kalimdor

Many orphans wish they had someone special to show them the wonders of the world. Throughout the year, these children spend their time wandering around their home cities of Stormwind or Orgrimmar, dreaming of the day they'll be old enough (and big enough) to venture out into the world and see the sights their parents would have shown them. During Children's Week, brave adventurers of the Horde and the Alliance can make these kids' dreams come true! Visit your faction’s local orphanage to take one of these children on a whirlwind adventure around the world. Talk to either Orphan Matron Nightingale in Stormwind (Alliance) or Orphan Matron Battlewail in Orgrimmar (Horde). After that, you’ll be able to take your young friend on an adventure across Azeroth.

Pet Rewards

  • Mr. Wiggles - summoned with the Piglet's Collar, this cute piglet is one of the reward options available from your faction capital city quest.
  • Whiskers - summoned with the Rat Cage, this cute baby rat is one of the reward options available from your faction capital city quest.
  • Speedy - summoned with the Turtle Box, this cute baby turtle is one of the reward options available from your faction capital city quest.
  • Scooter - summoned with the Snail Shell, this adorable baby snail is one of the reward options available from your faction capital city quest.

Children's Week in Shattrath

The orphans of Shattrath's Lower City, victims of the war that rages across Outland, also need company and adventure. Talk to Orphan Matron Mercy to offer one of Shattrath’s orphans the adventure of a lifetime as you embark on an adventure across Outland and learn a little about your ward along the way.

The outcome of the ongoing battle against the Burning Legion may one day lie in the hands of these children, so a little encouragement, or a push in the right direction, could make all the difference in the world.

Pet Rewards

  • Egbert - summoned with the Egbert's Egg, this cute baby hawkstrider is one of the reward options available from the “Back to the Orphanage” quest, which begins with Orphan Matron Mercy in Shattrath City.
  • Peanut - summoned with the Elekk Training Collar, this cute baby elekk is one of the reward options available from the “Back to the Orphanage” quest, which begins with Orphan Matron Mercy in Shattrath City.
  • Sleepy Willy - this baby floating eye will occasionally wake from his nap to kill a nearby creature classified in the game as a "critter." He is one of the reward options available from the “Back to the Orphanage” quest, which begins with Orphan Matron Mercy in Shattrath City.
  • Legs - this cute baby Spore Walker is one of the reward options available from the “Back to the Orphanage” quest, which begins with Orphan Matron Mercy in Shattrath City.

Children's Week in Dalaran

The orphans of Northrend need your help. For less than the cost of a cup of Kungaloosh, you can sponsor an unfortunate orphan like little Roo or Kekek. Simply contact Orphan Matron Aria in Dalaran to pledge your time and show one of these children that you care. You can make all the difference in the life of a young Oracle or Wolvar. Act now!

Pet Rewards
  • Curious Oracle Hatchling - this little companion can be obtained during Northrend Children's Week by completing a quest chain.
  • Curious Wolvar Pup - this little companion can be obtained during Northrend Children's Week by completing a quest chain.

Other Rewards:

  • Achievements: Children's Week currently offers a total of 110 achievement points, split over seven achievements and one meta-achievement. *Please note that achievement objectives between the Horde and Alliance are nearly the same, though there are some minor differences.
  • Titles: Matron or Patron, depending on the gender of your character, granted for completing the meta-achievement “For the Children.”

It's a good event, but as it has been mentioned the hard knocks ach is a burden for people who've never done pvp, and ultimately ruins those bg's for a week for people who do.

lol ppl complaining about the hard knocks achieve, i got it done on my first day, each the first bg i was in, its easy if u actually try, just set ur graphics and everything low and then go run to cap a flag like i did in AV, was cake, and if they made the achievements easy, every1 wouldd have the violet proto and it wouldnt be unique anymore, quit complaining

As many times as us PvPers have to go in dungeons for quests, rep, mats, mount/pet drops and so much more.. quit whining!

@Zelanian: But the thing is, I dont, I know a lot of pvpers who don't. The only PVE thing i will do is BH, and i didn't even do that until i could pull 15k in my pvp gear. I think it is completely ridiculous that Blizz would make a pvp portion to a world event. For the past week there have been almost no even BGs. One side gets destroyed because they have half the team in pve gear.

Blizz, how about trying either an alternate path to finish the CW meta, or change School of Hard Knocks. It's like banging your head up against a titanium reinforced concrete wall...you take what's essentially a team element of the game and place a huge amount of importance on individual achievement by having those four items. Screws the whole thing up, and I just gave up rather than try to mess around with all the pvp pros who were peeved at having to deal with all the pve players messing up thier stuff...as well as the pve players that are doing thier best to get the achieve and get out of the BG...it needs work, and serious work at that...please fix it.

the pvp requirement for this one is hard even for pvpers. Blizzard should give credit for being on a team or group that takes an objective; like in the battleground quests. Not force you to take it personally.

Well YAY!! Another Children's week has come and gone and another year of me NOT getting the Violet Proto drake because of School of Hard Knocks. I don't pvp so to those who say "suck it up and just do it" I have worked hard on these achievements. I have been doing them for a long time and I have been playing since the second week of WoW's existence. I have played on pvp realms, I have done battlegrounds and this is what I have found. I HATE PVP. It leaves me a with a nauseated feeling and I have learned leave PVP to the pvp players. We all get along better for it. So why should I be punished for something that I hate? Oh well. Guess it just sucks to be me and I will just leave that achievement blank until I stop playing the game.

@Murgatroyd: It is truly the mark of a sad human being when they think they have "worked hard" at a video game.

@Thebubler: I suppose there might be some who work hard "at" any particular video game but there are many, many who work very hard "in" a video game.
Having leveled up this priest in a mostly PvP environment to around level 84 I found myself completely unprepared for heroic dungeons and raids. Someone who is good at both works very hard "at" this video game. ;)

I completed this cheeve last year (and ended up with the meta as well). Even though I mainly PvE, I find it interesting and enjoyable that Blizz makes certains achievements require a PvP portion. To me it encourages players to experience more than just one aspect of gameplay. While the PvP achievements can be frustrating to get sometimes, you should look at the big picture. I came across several Alliance and Horde players alike that would help just the same as I ran into many that were just being obnoxious and make it that much more difficult to complete what I was going for. For me that's what made it fun and interesting. Otherwise it would be too easy and everyone could get it. If you're working on this for the title or the year long achievement, I would suggest you suck it up and work for what you want. If it's given to you, you never really appreciate it as much as someone that has put some time and effort in (some more than others I know).

I mostly PVP so I probably had an easier time doing this achievement than many of the players out there. I was able to do the achievement on two different characters yesterday. I have no problem helping out people (camping in the flagroom and taking turns returning or capturing nodes in AB). However, many of you say PVPer's are rude, unhelpful, and generally horrible human beings. I've had people sit back doing no damage or heals chasing the EFC in WSG waiting for the flag to drop. I've had 3 people going for the cap in AB while I was healing myself running from the Horde. There are a lot of PVPers out there willing to help, but keep in mind when you're queing for these battlegrounds that they are generally not used to having all of you guys trying to complete achievements in there. While you're there, try to be helpful as well, you just might have more fun that way.

@Minnilicious: I agree with you on that. I was trying to go for these as well, managed to get them done, but not once did I camp for any of them. I went and played all the bg's normally and got almost all of them in one run through. Warsong Gulch took a few tries, but eventually got it.

I almost never do pvp, and am usually very horrible when I do, so I was so relieved when I was able to get it. Had a lot of doing some bf's while at it. Might start doing them.

I had a helpful BE DK sit in the tower with about 5 Alliance and they would pick up the flag and drop it so each one of us could get the achievement. I (hugged) them. For the other parts of the achievement several PVP guildies helped me. It really made me appreciate other players and their helpfulness. It was a hard and well earned drake.

I don't understand what all the fuss is about the PvP portion of this Meta, it is a meta it is supposed to be difficult and incorporate different aspects of the game. I am primarily a PvE player and I went out, busted my butt, and got the damn achieve. If all of you stopped QQing and just took Yoda's advice, "There is no try. Do or do not." Just get out there and do it, cuz QQing on the forums is not completing the achieve.

I just can't understand why Blizzards has it so that you HAVE to PvP to get the Children's week achievement. Or any other non PvP specific achievements for that matter. I'm terrible at PvP and never really cared for it but I LOVE to run dungeons and raids. Why not make it optional? Either you would have to do a dungeon/raids feat OR a PvP feat to get the achievement you are striving for?

The school of hard knocks is sure to make u a selfish player. In Alterac Valley I was the first in tower several times and couldn't click on flag for some reason and other people got the credit. I feel bad because I came in a room and clicked on a flag just as other people told me not to. I got the flag. I think everyone who is in the room when the flag is captured or goes up in flames ought to get the reward! In warsong gulch I helped a player get into the flag room and when he planted the flag I also got credit for it. Wether that was a flag that had fallen and was returned or just a returned flag I do not know. But it was nice to get credit. Now I can afford to go make and help others or try to anyway.
