About World of Warcraft: Tides of War:

The renowned sorceress Jaina Proudmoore has long struggled to maintain a lasting peace between the Alliance and horde.

But now, as mounting tensions threaten to ignite a new era of conflict, her hopes for peace could be extinguished forever...

Warchief Garrosh, obsessed with assuring the Horde’s supremacy over Kalimdor, launches an all-out attack against Jaina's island home of Theramore. Though the valiant Alliance defenders rush to repel the sudden onslaught, they’ll soon find themselves unprepared for the terrible scope of Garrosh's true plans…

The destruction wrought by the Horde’s brazen attack irrevocably transforms Jaina, propelling the kindhearted diplomat down a path of grief and vengeance that will alter not only her destiny – but the destiny of Azeroth itself.

@Hojofrog: Doesn't have to be fair. Just don't make it seem as if horde = dark side and alliance = light side. It ought to be a balance of both sides doing bad things, to make it more interesting and controversial. Not just one...Varian (aka Lo'gosh) better loose it or something.

@Diepestgeber: I heard someone the other in-game talking about an achievement along the lines of 'Memory of Theramore'.... I thought it weird at the time but I am guessing that Garrosh succeeds at taking Theramore.

@Cowgoesoom: Well, for the Alliance, several of the ex Alliance are all the major raid bosses. (Arthas, Illidan, Kael, etc.) Also, do not forget all the instance bosses who were majority ex Alliance too. Thus, it should be time to have some Horde raid bosses too.

@Cowgoesoom: they won't make varian lose it. He took some kind of anger management help from Genn and the night elves that apparently helped the worgen keep their conciousness after the change. Supposedly he's the bright leader and politician he used to be now and still the badass warrior.. best of both worlds. I think people are going to like varian more in a while

@Helsingz: Maybe it is time that horde had some bosses but you forget, Arthas and Illidan both originally went all evil doing good things. Kael just kind of upping left and none of these people were controlling and representing their entire faction when they did their bad things. Unlike Garrosh who is just a bad egg who speaks for the horde (wrongly so I think).

@Diepestgeber: Sylvanas will break off from the horde, and become a faction. Then the remnants of the horde will join the alliance for good, and we will all fight the ZOMBEHS!!!!!!!!!!!

I have read all of the WoW novels. I really look forward to reading this one because Jaina hasn't been mentioned heavily in a book since the LK novel. Christie is my favorite author amongst all the WoW authors.

@Syrida: Most of them don't have to be read in order. Some, like the War of the Ancients trilogy, will make more sense if read in order though. Each book does take place at certain times in the lore. My advice: pick whichever strikes your fancy.

@Thrivé: Willing to buy an edit feature for comments. One thing I'd add is to read War of the Ancients after the other books (where it is indicated for the 2nd time in the chronology). Since it's a "time travel" book, it makes a lot more sense and is more enjoyable imho, to read it from the time that the time travellers are FROM, and not the time that they are sent back to.

Looking forward to this mainly because Golden is the author. I really enjoyed her Starcraft: Dark Templar Saga trilogy.

I've read a lot of Knaaks books and glad to see the next WoW book by Golden. Knaak left me disappointed with how abruptly he ended the War of the Ancients as though he ran out of paper and had to squeeze everything onto 3 pages.

I wish they actually tell this story in-game instead of just deleting theramore from the map and changing jaina's location/ appearance from one day to the next. Like they did with cairne (except they just deleted him).
I have nothing against books, I actually like reading a lot, but Warcraft books don't really appeal to me but I still want to know the full story through the game. I don't want to have to buy anything else if I'm already paying for a subscription.

Awesome post, Death. And I think what you're saying could be possible for MoP. A great storyline that would be if N'zoth came to Pandaria or something like that.

Also, we have heard a boss in Dragon Soul say something about a recently added Old God named, N'zoth. I read that he is the cause of the Emerald Nightmare in the Emerald Dream, he is also the one who whispered to Deathwing, and drove him to the brink of madness. I think in MoP, he will be revealed to us, and also after Jaina goes berserk about the loss of Theramore, he's going to start whispereing to her and then driver her to insanity, making her kill the Alliance and try to kill thrall after he returns as Warchief. N'zoth is the one of the last living Old Gods as well. For all you archeologists out there, Yogg-Saron's Puzzle Box would be a very intersting artifact to pick up sometime. It whispers to you, and it says some very juicy lore info. Overall, we know that Garrosh is gonna get owned by Thrall, and that possibly, Jaina could be the downfall of the Alliance and that Pandas are gonna rule Azeroth.

I will totally buy this book. It looks so neat and I've read every other Warcraft book there is, including comics and manga. I really do not want Jaina to go down this path because, she is Anduin Wrynn's aunt and one of Varian's closest friends, but I do see Blizzard's point for making her go down this path. I mean, look how much she has suffered in the past. If I were her, turning evil would be an option, but not the best one though. And I hope Thrall comes back and kicks the crap out of Garrosh. Ever since I read the book, The Shattering, and ever since Garrosh killed Cairne, I've felt so much anger and hate towards him, but we all know Magatha is the real reason behind Caine's death. Thrall should've appointed Sylvanas as the new Warchief because, Sylvanas is like the best person in WoW, and she rules with a ruthless fist which would make her rule hold much longer. Also, Sylvanas for one hates Garrosh, and if you are an undead, there is a quest that is in Silverpine Forest for Horde only. Garrosh and her have a meeting, which ends with Garrosh threatening her, which I did not like. We all know Jaina's insanity after the destruction of Theramore could lead the Alliance to downfall...

I have been a dedicated Horde player from the beginning. I was proud to be a member of Thrall's Horde. I was disappointed when the decision was made to place Garrosh Hellscream as acting warchief, I suspected Garrosh (lorewise) would lead the Horde down a dark and dangerous path. I actually found myself being drawn to the Alliance side of the game. What little honor was left in the Horde by Garrosh's actions leading upto and into the Cataclysm will be crushed by his actions leading upto and into Pandaria. Garrosh Hellscream has no concept of honor. Jaina Proudmoore has sacrificed much in trying to maintain a positive relationship with the Horde. Garrosh never realized how powerful an ally she was; I truly hope he comes to know how powerful and terrible an enemy she will make. If Blizzard would let me be a Tauren in the Alliance, I would switch factions.

@Naakqwass:
Garrosh was chosen for dramatic reasons. Go'el would have made the Horde too perfect/boring. Which in turn would have caused people to leave. No more game for us to enjoy at that point.

@Merdrah:
Agreed. It appears that Blizzard is setting up nothing less than a full fledged civil war within the Horde by the end of MoP. I just wish (hope) Blizzard would make it possible for my Horde toons to join with the Alliance to fight against those members of the Horde who wish to remain loyal to Garrosh.

@Naakqwass:
I'm leaning towards a Horde raid being lead by one of the other Horde leaders. To save the Horde from pending doom. Go'el or any of the current leaders could be worked into the story to do it.
But it really looks like the cannon ending will be the Alliance getting the kill credit on Garrosh. Varian more specifically.
