Introducing the Guild Mentoring Program

Introducing the Guild Mentoring Program

Azeroth -- It’s a land of turmoil, harsh and unyielding for heroes of the Horde and the Alliance as they struggle against enemies from within and without. For those stepping forth for the first time into this implacable realm, life can seem overwhelming, but surviving in this hostile environment is not insurmountable with a little help. Will your band of brothers and sisters, heroes and mentors, heed your call for aid?

Azeroth needs more heroes to rise through the ranks and your guild can help. We’re looking for a few good guilds to volunteer for the new Guild Mentoring Program. Guilds participating in the program will take part in identifying new players within selected realms, offering to invite them into the guild, and teaching them the ways of Azeroth as they level and reach the end game content.

F.A.Q.

Q. What is the Guild Mentoring Program?
A. The guild mentoring program identifies guilds on select realms to act as mentors for new and low level players (below level 85).

Q. How long does the Guild Mentoring Program run for?
A.
The Guild Mentoring Program will run for a period of four months from the time that guilds are selected and notified.

Q. Is there a certain criteria for being selected as a mentoring guild?
A.
Guilds must meet certain criteria to be considered for the Guild Mentoring Program:

  • Guilds must be located on one of the selected realms.
  • They must be willing to commit to the program for a four month period.
  • They must be willing to change their name for the four month Guild Mentoring participation period. (Names will be changed back at the end of the program.)
  • Guilds must be at least level 6 and have an active membership.

Q. How many guilds will be recruiting per realm?
A.
Only one guild will be selected per faction on each realm.

Q. What does my guild need to do to volunteer?
A.
The guild leader will need to submit an application to wowguilds@blizzard.com with the following information:

  • Current guild name and guild leader name
  • Current realm and faction of the applying guild
  • Current guild level and number of guild members
  • Guild leader’s real name and phone number (this information will not be published and is for internal use only)
  • Brief description of the Mentoring Guild

Q. How long are you accepting applications for?
A.
We will be accepting applications for two weeks. We will then select a guild for the Guild Mentoring Program from those that meet the criteria and contact the guild leader.

Q. On what realms will this program be available?
A.
Mentoring guilds will be chosen for the following realms:

Q. Do participating guilds get anything special?
A.
Some of the benefits for taking part in the program include:

  • MVP status on the forums for the guild leader and recruitment officer
  • Guild member private forum access
  • Recognition for your guild as being participants in the program

I wonder if this program has been successful, whether a new iteration will be launched to include realms that did not participate in this iteration of the program.

Fail. Doomhammer, Alliance wise at least, never needed mentoring. Perhaps training in PvP, but that's it. You basically just gave it to one of the 4 oldest servers out there. I think we know what we're doing by now. -.- Give it to that garbage realm Fizzcrank. Those morons need it big time.

Guilds like Wings of Serenity, White Kodo Clan, and The Salesman, helped me out alot when I first started playing WoW and the following months I spent learning the game. I'm glad Blizzard is attempting to bring this back since currently WoW is full of trolls and rogues ready to make your time spent in Azeroth the worse experience of your life. The community in WoW can make the game awesome or aweful.

I think its a great idea. I've mentored plenty of people during my time in warcraft. some later in the game and some right from the start. and in almost every case these people turned into some of the best players I've ever known. and many have in turn came to show me plenty in return. was a wonderful experience.

My guild, Chaotic Ascension, already does this and always has. We love to help newbies and guildies. We don't need anything special or rewards. Its a reward in itself knowing we helped people and showed them the ropes. It takes years to really master WoW not just 4 months and we are already in it for the long haul. We might not be high ranking in pvp or raiding, but we are absolutely the best guild on Ravenholdt. We have fun and a a big crazy family. If any of my people read this, I LOVE YOU GUYS!!!

Nice idea, for my own experence in WOW finding a guild that helped low levels level by running them through dungeons or questing with them is few and far between( by the way if your guild isn't maxed level itself those actions level the guild). To the Point where we had to find a level 1 guild and make into a helpful guild in the first place. Most of the other guilds I had joined where the other guildies thought that any low level toon belonged to a player that wasn't worth their time. Now once the toon had hit 85 then they would help the player get ready for a raid, but otherwise we where considered crap.

My guild already does this and is way above and beyond in helping lowbies learn the game. Really see no reason to register for this program as my realm already knows what we do already the biggest problem is the 1000 member cap as everyone wants to stay in the guild and bring their alts. Yesterday a member gave me the XT Pet Code for running a first class guild. The only thing I would want form Blizzard for helping players so much is some kind of sweetheart deals like say one year free game time for the guild master and 3 months for up to four officers. To me that would be pretty fair and exciting enough to motivate the officers to really pitch in when they are on. They mostly do but some more than others. This game WoW really depends so much on the players relationships as good relations can keep people, and Terrible players can make others never want to pay for another month. That is why recruit a friend works well or one reason. Anyways I alo am a BOT Hunter and stalk report and get Bots reported for cheating and removed form the game, so there is more to do in game on your servers than just being helpful to new players you can also help chase off the gold farming bots that steal all the ore and herb spawns. Blizzard can not track all the things good players do for other players, but that is OK, it comes back around in other ways, who wants to be on a server with a majority of rude players, when you can be nice, and retain nice players and help spread the spirit of respect and immersion in the game.

@Guildchief: first of all your excluding helpful non-officer benefts for helping which is a selfish oversight on your part and secondly blizz wouldn't give ANYONE 1 year free for something stupid like helping a low level, not that it's bad but blizz doesn't care enough about low level players to give people a free year for just helping them, and a exclusive GM only 1 year free for helping low levels is the most selfish thing I ever heard! maybe a week or so free in general but a year is a tad to much mister good and helpful Guild Master

I think this is a great idea. When I first started (in Vanilla) I had noooo idea how to play, and a very nice guild took me under their wing. I don't see many guilds now-a-days willing to help new players like that, which is quite sad really. And the fact that Blizzard needs to ask people to do this is even more sad.
And to all of you who wonder why it's only on a few servers, I can only assume that it's for the sake of "testing the waters" so to speak. They want to make sure their idea will work effectively before they put it on every server. That's just my opinion though.

@Alicite: Really? If there is one thing that I think of when I think of new characters in wow, its how they get spammed 60 times per second with ninja guild invites tryting to get ppl to join up with the promise of helping them level, gearing them, etc. Thats my experience, at least.

I must say that I'm disappointed that this program was not initiated on a wider basis. It isn't available for guilds on my server (Exodar). My wife and I have been doing this very same thing for years, and although it's nice to hang out with more experienced players, it is particularly gratifying to help new players reach level 20, for the first time, to help them get enthused about PVP for the first time, or just to hear the shock and awe conveyed when you give them their first set of netherweave when they are still in the starting area. For that matter, some of my guilds most loyal and resourceful people didn't even know what a guild was when I asked them if they wanted to join.

I must say I'm proud to be a part of this program. I remember what it was like being the new guy who wasn't quite sure how to play the game, and I had some great guilds along the way who helped me. Now I'm ready to step up and help others as well.

obviously from the comments below, elitism is running rampant throughout this game. that's why they're doing this. because anyone with an ilvl above 300 treats new players like dirt.

@Grigrog: let me just say, thats some real bull pucky there, as someone that has been a raider since vanilla, i have seen plenty of eliteists but that dosent mean that all of us are. one of my personal favorite things to do is help new people learn to play the game and hope that one day ill be in a raid with them.

Hopefully with mentoring of new players we can actually stop making the game easier.

My best experiences in WoW were during vanilla and BC when everything was long, tedious, and challenging. Many of the changes after that, especially shorter leveling times and making content easier, have made the game less enjoyable for me. I've always been happy to share my knowledge with others in a constructive way. If doing so will help stop the nerfing of this game please send the noobs my way! :D

I agree with Crotchcrckt. This is essentially what guilds were made for and one of the primary ways in which they grew. It's amazing and quite a shame that Blizzard has to ask for volunteers to do this.

@Lolwutnao: Hell no. This would make the game to easy. Porting everywhere and autoattacks with all abilities if ever introduced would be the day I leave WoW. WoW has always been the one game which was easy to learn, hard to master and adding in everything you said will make the game piss easy and attract n00bs which don't want to learn to actually play, which is no good for anyone.
