Professions: Living in Perfect Harmony

As with any new expansion, we often find that we have an opportunity to take a closer look at a variety of game systems within World of Warcraft and explore new ideas or improvements to the game. One system in particular is held near and dear to the hearts of the community: professions. With Mists of Pandaria, the designers were able to seize upon an opportunity to look at the role of materials and refine their purpose and their usefulness. In the end, they came up with Spirit of Harmony as the new resource du jour.
Harmonious Prospects
In Mists of Pandaria, we’re introducing a new material known as the Spirit of Harmony. It slices— it dices— well, ok, it doesn’t, but crafters of any stripe will find it has many uses. By now, any experienced crafter is used to filling bags with a variety of materials such as Primal Life, Primal Fire, Primal Earth, etc. but in Mists of Pandaria, it’s all about Spirit of Harmony (in combination with the usual materials, like ore, leather, and gems). Spirit of Harmony is the result of the designers simplifying an already complex system while still keeping a wide variety of possibilities open to players. Much like with other Primals, Motes of Harmony can be combined (10 to 1) to create one Spirit of Harmony.
Harmony is Personal
Let’s get right to it. Spirit of Harmony is a Bind on Pickup (or “BoP” to veterans) crafting material that can be found on every lootable creature in every zone in Pandaria -- from dungeons to the outdoor world. Initially, we want crafters to be out in the world adventuring instead of camping out in front of an auctioneer, hoping to score some cheap mats.
We understand that this may be of concern to those who play a variety of profession alts, and may consider other options for the future, including the possibility of allowing Spirits of Harmony to be Bind to Account in a future patch.
In addition to serving as a core crafting ingredient, Spirits of Harmony can also be used to purchase a variety of additional bonuses or materials that your character may need. While not every profession will get equal value out of them, most everyone will need to collect them for one reason or another.
Here are some examples of the many ways that Spirit of Harmony can be used:
Alchemy: Purchase an extra Transmute.
Archaeology: Purchase a restored artifact.
Cooking: Exchange for an Iron Paw Token.
Enchanting: Buy reagents.
Engineering: New mounts and personal goggles.
Herbalism: Purchase herbs.
Inscription: Purchase rare inks.
Jewelcrafting: Use to purchase extra daily discoveries.
Tailoring, Blacksmithing, Leatherworking: Used to create epic items.
Purchasing materials may not ultimately be the most efficient way to gain resources, but it can be an added convenience to purchase something with Spirit of Harmony rather than going back into the world to get it. The Spirit of Harmony vendor can be found in the Vale of Eternal Blossoms.

Tailoring - SoH works very well here. Even though it takes 3 to replace a daily cooldown it complements the tradeskill well because you have other options to making things that don't require harmonies.
Alchemy - A bit less well done than tailoring, but at least it provides an answer to the golden lotus rarity. I can usually find 1 golden lotus in the world per 3 harmonies that I make. Something feels off here but since I have no other way to spend harmony with this tradeskill I just shrug and move on.
Inscription- Very well done. 7 or 8 harmonies for a BOA epic sounds very powerful and worth the effort. And they retain their value with rare inks(should offer more per harmony, but i'll not complain too much).
JC-So thrilled that I don't need them for panther mounts that I'll swallow pretty much anything. Will probably just use excess harmony for discovery.
Engi: Mixed bag but overall happy with it.
BS/LS: Lumped them together because they are both equally bad. Making them a currency for patterns is good. Making them require so much to make epic gear is very bad. Increase the living steel req and half the harmony requirement. Equally unsatisfied with LW but have no good ideas to change it. Hides are cheap and easy to get but harmonies take far too long to make for the amount needed.

Well, in all honesty I can say that since MOP has been out for around a month now, that NO ONE likes this BOP crafting mats garbage. It De-values most professions since no one wants to give up there harm's cause there to hard to acquire, People will offer gold to the person that has harmys and most of the time that person will just refuse because he already has 50k+ gold and its simply not worth it.
Here's a prime example, I have Blacksmithing 600, And few of my friends just got 90 Now generally in past expansions I would be like 'Yo man i can make you this sweet 463 blue wep when you get 90, But this is not the case in mop, now I look at it and go "sigh" wish i could help him out and make him that wep, But alas I need the harmy's myself........
Solution? Increase the drop rate x2 or x3 what it is now. People don't want to spend half there day getting just 1 or 2.

Clearly this was going to be an issue and you(blizz) already knew that so why not make them BOA to begin with....... w/e just fix it please

A couple of ideas I had are:
- allow the corpses that can be mined, herbed or salvages to drop motes of Harmony?
- Keep the Spirit of Harmony as BOP and allow the motes to be traded but increase the number of motes to say 15 per SOH?
- Or just make it 5 motes = 1 SOH.

given that you are unlikely to kill that many mobs again (its a lot of quests and killing from 85-90) and that the spirits don't drop from dungeons (at least the 4 that i have been in i have not seen a single one drop for anyone in the group )the prices on the crafted items are extreme and probably out of range for most people that don't have the profession to craft it them self's. the going rate on my server at least is 5 000 gold per spirit used to craft something. and the odds of finding someone who wants to part with their spirits is small, so the price goes up if you want something badly enough. as they are used to lvl proffesions and craft a weapon/armor for the person themselves, many people simply do not have any to craft items for other people.
spirits of harmony need to become BOA at least, as people do play their alts, and in most cases the spirits are needed across all characters to provide items for the 1 or 2 main characters a person plays.
I really hope some sort of a change is made soon.
