Pirates' Day

Pirates' Day

Some years ago, Mark "Cap’n Slappy" Summers and John "Ol’ Chumbucket" Baur (the co-authors of the book Pirattitude) figured that being a pirate was such a fine thing that it should be celebrated. Their associate Dread Captain DeMeza thought that a capital idea, and Pirates’ Day was born.

EVENT DETAILS

  • When:   September 19th
  • Where:   Booty Bay, Stranglethorn Vale.
  • Learn More:   Wowhead, Wowpedia

ACTIVITIES

On one day only, September 19, you too can celebrate Pirates’ Day. Rumor has it that Dread Captain DeMeza herself will invade Booty Bay, bringing corsairs and cannons to fire on approaching vessels. Keep an eye out for First Mate Hapana, and expect to see commoners in pirate garb in capital cities. Ask them to help you dress like a pirate, and join in the fun.

Dread Captain DeMeza has been known to share a drink with an adventurer or two; if you have the guts to meet her on the roof of the Booty Bay bank, perhaps she'll raise a mug with you and make you an honorary crew member. Now that's an achievement!

REWARDS

  • Achievements: Pirates' Day currently offers a total of 10 achievement points, obtained by sharing a drink with Dread Captain DeMeza.

This game just keeps diving headfirst into the "pretend we know what we are doing" barrel. WTB whoever made World of Warcraft: Vanilla. Furthermore, the creators of WotLK and Cataclysm should stand trial for crimes against geek-anity.

My 2cents qq here about NPCs covered w/dragon mounts and mammoths
The griefers in this game always make me wonder if Blizzard employees even play WoW. You'd think that since this happens over and over and even in new content(remember trying to light the brazier in MoP beta?) that Pirates Day & similar events would have some 'fix' or whatever to stop the griefers. Don't the ppl that develop this game have the same issue(s) when they play?

@Kharrma: Razek's interact with target works. Otherwise look for the tauren First Mate Hapana. She stands near him facing the bay with her back to the festivities, gold mug in left hand and sword in right hand.

@Urcella: You shouldn't have to use a macro to target an npc. That pictures just shows proof that moderators are lacking, PPl have no respect, and this game is full of holes that have nothing better to do that grief players. IMHO. Gms should be present on events like this, and bans issued for blatent disregard for fellow players. Maybe if ppl started getting 2 or 3 day bans griefing stuff like this would stop

Bliz has probably never dealt with the griefers because there is a way to get around them, simply do shift-v and npc health bars will show and you can right click them from their names to talk to them.

qq moment here: anyone else having problems with kids mounting on mammoths and covering the npcs? i cant do the even without creating a macro. seems pointless and not worth the trip to booty bay.

@Starlove: I've been able to circumvent greefers by zooming the camera all the way in and then walking through the mammoth. You can see the npc inside sometimes.

Also, be sure to report them. Do the community some good! :)

Amazingly, after nearly a decade of this game, I've never actually managed to catch a blue post that deals with this. So, serious respectful question here: Have they ever said why they haven't done anything to combat these kinds of griefers? (ie, making the NPC solid like a mailbox)

@Starlove: 10 years olds think it's funny to cover up the NPCs and watch people get frustrated. Unfortunately it works, because there's alot of stupid people that will continue to yell move and fuel them even while other people are yelling how to get around it. It's simple, set your "interact with target" key in keybindings. Then type "/target Dread Captain DeMeza" and hit said key, done.

They wasted maybe 20 seconds of my time today.

@Doomsdaisy: Aye me shapeshiften' harty! We must band together an' demand a parlay with whoever the capt'n o' this decision was! If they be foolish enough ta turn us away, we'll plunder their booty an' take back the garb that be rightfully arrrs! I'll meet all ye scarvy dogs in the battlefield, in all arrr swashbucklin' glory! YAARRR! >:D (Happy Pirates' Day, WoW!)

@Doomsdaisy: It was fun for like 5 mins to have the pirate costume on... but then I got bored with it and reverted back to my regular armor. Made sure I got the achievement for drinking with the Captain at Booty Bay, then reverted back to normal. It's fun to see your toons in costume, but the effect wore off quickly.

Horray for more holidays! The one bummer is that on my druid whenever I shapeshift my pirate clothes rip to shreds and are no more :( Would be really nice if the pirate costume buff did not disappear upon shapeshifting so that when we shapeshifted back we could still look as awesome and as spirited as everyone else :)

@Melanite: All the druid forms should wear a pirate hat while under the costume's effects instead of getting rid of the costume.
