Activities: Honoring A HEro
Throughout history, many have given their lives to aid their comrades. Every year, members of the Horde and the Alliance set aside time to honor the memories of the fallen and to pay tribute to those whose memories are held most dear.

To show their respect, members of the Alliance light a candle at the Tomb of Uther Lightbringer in the Western Plaguelands. Members of the Horde show their respect to Grom Hellscream by leaving a bottle of spirits at the Hellscream Memorial in Ashenvale.

FESTIVAL FOODS

Throughout the festival, remembrance feasts will be held outside of Ironforge and Orgrimmar. Adventurers are invited to partake of the feasts to be strengthened for challenges to come in the future. Available foods include:

ITEM REWARDS

  • After you complete your journey to your hero's tomb and have left a tribute to his memory, return to Javnir Nashak outside of Orgrimmar or to Wagner Hammerstrike outside of Ironforge in order to receive your reward: The Horde's Hellscream or For the Light!

I prefer this to the more active events such as Brewfest. It gives you time to think about honoring those that came before.

I am glad there are 6 days to do this quest. I work 40 hours a week and thus don't have as much wow time as i would like. Also, if you have several toons that you are working on, you can choose which ones do it or not. Like any quest, it's a choice, not a have-to. i like it because its easy, and it helps to remember the ones who have fallen in this battle, and other battles as well. Its my two minute tribute to all fallen heros.

Actually, with the release of pandas, and the upcoming brewfest, I'm glad this one isn't heavilly stressfull requiring a ton of things needing to be done for some meta.
That being said though, I do wish blizz would add a few more other heros who deserve it. Cairne being one of them. Another thing that would be cool is instead of having generic 'heros' at the feast, have actual named heros there we can talk to, and maybe get a story or two from.
One thing that would really up this, is maybe blizz start putting in some scalable level scenarios based around each hero, so not only could they tell us their story, we could live it. And at the end, instead of getting some fabulous new gear, we get some transmog items from that era.
Possibly even items from quests that we've passed over.

Yeah, I kinda find it odd anyone other than orcs would have much reverence for Grom. Respect maybe, but he's not that important a symbol to non-orcs.
Likewise to Night Elves who never benefited from or were protected by Uther.

It's a bit like the allies in WW2 spending a day saluting an ancient samurai and an old British knight respectively as if it mattered any to Germans or Americans.

@Radicalèd: Eh, many Americans came from Britain, for that part. And as far as an ancient samurai - honor is something that transcends national boundaries.

It isn't so much the respect of what that person did for YOU as it is respect for that person and what THEY did. It's like how Gandhi is almost universally admired, even by non-Indians, or Mother Teressa, even by non-Catholics.

So the person doesn't have to be a great person within a society for likeminded societies to honor them, they just have to be a great person worthy of honoring.

I do so love this festival if not for the free food but the time of remembering the things we lost and gained.

I would visit uther's tomb more often but the alliance don't care for my goblin sacred honoring bomb/and/or/explosives.

With this i leave you all a fond farewell and a ditty little prayer.

To all the heroes of Azeroth may your days be merry.
And the drink sweeter in the moon.
To all the pugs i'll never carry.
I hope you learn to play real soon.

It is truly these little holidays that keep me happy! You don't always need a vanity/battle pet for eating a festival food. You don't always need a BoA mount for talking to an NPC. You don't need to always get an achievement for turning the power on for your computer, guys.

For some people, it is more than enough to just pick up some food that will be useful at all levels and make your way to some distinguished lore sites. For myself, I usually go by the Tauren graves to the North of Thunder Bluff rather than Grom's monument, but to each their own. Perhaps a Forsaken visits the place of their "death." Maybe a paladin heads to the freaking Froustmourne Cavern and spends some time lamenting the fall of Arthas, in addition to paying tribute to Uther. Perhaps I visit Cairne's funeral pyre and do what I can to honor the chieftain, then pay my respects to his surviving son.

For any RPers out there, this holiday is simple yet more than enough. To those that aren't, just sit down and collect some food and drink to take with you for free into Pandaria if you want. Whatever fits your fancy. If you find this really too boring, you don't have long to wait for Brewfest!

@Claycalf: I visited Deathknell a few days ago, trying to unravel the mystery of where I had lived before I died. Maybe one day, I'll find out where my home and family were.

I'm glad there are others who enjoy sitting in nostalgic places like I do. :)
