Battle.net World Championship: Follow the Action

We’re just two weeks away from some truly amazing eSports action at the Battle.net World Championship in Shanghai, China. If you haven’t been following along thus far, you may have missed some key information, so let’s recap.

The Battle.net World Championship will host players from around the world who have played at the top of their game in StarCraft II and World of Warcraft Arena at a series of national and continental tournament events this year. The StarCraft II Global Finals will see the final 32 players battle it out for a prize pool of $250,000 and the honor of being crowned the 2012 StarCraft II Global Champion. At the same time, the fast and frenetic action of the World of Warcraft Arena Global Finals will be happening just yards away as the world’s top Arena teams fight for a prize pool of nearly $200,000.

When the full contingent of battle-hardened competitors arrives in Shanghai for the Battle.net World Championship, they'll be fired up to represent their respective countries in the spirit of international competition. It’s an event you won’t want to miss, and we’ll be streaming it live, for free, at the Battle.net World Championship website. Everything kicks off on the live stream at 6:00 p.m. PST (9:00 p.m. EST) Friday, November 16, with the final matches slated to start at the same time the following evening.

As if that wasn’t enough, we’ll be featuring a live raid competition and Challenge Mode race between uber guilds Stars and Supreme Quicksand. Check out our recent article for more details.

We’ll have more Battle.net World Championship news to share with you over the next couple of weeks, so stay tuned for further updates.

I love all the people on the comments talking trash about "easy mode wow pvp" "wow esport lolol" yet their arena teams are 2-6, 7-13 and far below 50% W/L ratio. If pvp is SUCH a faceroll as you guys say, where is your rating? Trying to talk trash tournament players when you don't even have a 1550 achievement on your account is just hilarious. 1v5 in a random bg doesn't make you guys pvp experts worthy of trash talking a tournament.

@Kapowski: If you can't float around 2k mmr you can't judge the state of arena. At least the tournament has legitimate comps instead of 0 skill burst teams.

I really do not see the point of hundreds of thousands of dollars going to someone who obviously has no life, sitting in arena all day. A small prize amount, sure, but over $100K for first place? Put the money back into the game blizz, pretty sure its needed in the game more than in some wow fanatic's basement.

@Youguy: How does it bring more money to Blizzard? Them spending 200k on a tourney that will probably take two hours. How does that influence more people to play the game at all? If anything more people will quit because blizzard thinks gear > skill.

@Búbblekush: I never said anything about that. I said it is a joke how they are giving away so much money in about two hours when they could pay their employees overtime to fix/find bugs within the game.

@Tysol: 1) You did say something about that. When you mentioned 'gear>skill' you implied the combatants weren't there for skill. 2) The last time I watched the live stream I was amped to keep playing. I also kept talking about it to anyone who'd listen. It's an incredible marketing tool worth the money.

@Tysol: I agree, that is a crap ton of money that should go to something else. Anyone with good gear and a basic understanding of the game, with the right set up of players can do good. They made wow so simple stupid a baby can play the game. WoW used to take skill, at least more than it does now. WoW turned into a communist game, no matter how skilled u are, ur going to do about the same as someone with basic skill. What's fun about seeing ppl with no skill smashing each other for a crap ton of money. You wanna see real skill, playing games, check out the EVE Online tournaments. Not nearly as much cash prize, but way more entertaining. If wow is the only mmo u play, then good for u, but I'm not as simple minded, and I love to expand my game base. So while ur all given this guy crap, he's one of the only ppl that see it the way it is, the rest of u, QQ more.

@Falek: Lol, your first sentence is like saying "Anyone with a football and 5 fat guys infront of him can throw for 400 yards a game and win a championship" Yet you don't see many people around with championship rings, or in wow's case gladiator title.

@Solemne: You are actually wrong. Blizz does the top .5% for the title. If you did it solely on rating, there would be thousands of more people getting the title each season, simply because by the time the season ends, being 2430 could get you title whereas 2429 might not.

Also uve never been 1500 what makes u think ur a good judge of someones skill level? oh ye and the comment about EVE online taking more skill then wow arena, cant tell if trolling or retarded. anyway thanks for the laughs.

@Tysol: You are giving money to players who are good. I do not see a difference between this championship and paying a guy millions of dollars to bounce a rubber ball around a wooden floor and place it in a hoop on the other side of the floor. We pay them for entertainment and for skills they have at such a seemingly simple task. The teams make money from the fans and sponsors. So does Blizzard.

@Pestylance: What skill? Last time I saw skill required in WoW was back in the original game and Burning Crusade. Now, you are basically handed everything on a silver platter, and if you don't understand you get kicked immediately.

@Tysol: If you think it takes no skill, why don't you work on getting in the tournament. If you think it's a waste of money, why don't you go on and win it then hand it back to blizz if you feel so strongly about what you're whining about. you can say it takes no skill, could've been a valid point if you can actually prove it. Get 2200 rating then talk.

@Samoonis: I know dog !@#$ players that been playing since beta, Swoozers started in cataclysm and almost made it to china so you're logic is flawed
@Samoonis: The Arena Realm lets everyone have the best armor/enchants/gems to remove gear from the equation. You're right though, that in the normal live game gear progression can still be a factor. But it isn't for Arena tournaments.
