Cinder Kitten Raises More Than $2.3 Million

Cinder Kitten Raises More Than $2.3 Million

Thanks to the overwhelming generosity of World of Warcraft players around the world who purchased the Cinder Kitten pet, we’ve raised a total of more than $2.3 million USD to support the American Red Cross’s ongoing Superstorm Sandy relief efforts. In December, we announced that for every Cinder Kitten purchased by December 31, 2012, 100% of the adoption fee would be going to assist victims of this disaster -- and the community embraced this fiery feline in droves, helping out a great cause in the process. Thanks again to everyone who helped make a difference.

From left to right American Red Cross' Janet Whitcomb, Bill Blanning, and Don Voss, and from Blizzard CEO and cofounder Mike Morhaime, World of Warcraft Production Director J. Allen Brack, and Game Director Tom Chilton.

I don't often buy pets with real money, but I got this one. Easy to justify the expense when the money is going to people in need.

Yeah, I highly doubt it would go out to any of the victims. I'm a resident of NJ, and though my damages weren't severe as others, I did have few minor property damage. But I do commend Blizzard for their services.

While I commend Blizzard for their efforts of service to relief efforts, I seriously hope that the money given actually goes to the people that need it and not the people that work for ARC.

@Dìego: The American Red Cross spends about 92% of its money on programs, about 4% on administrative costs and 4% on fundraising according to watchdog agencies.

@Tyrfalas: Because of previous scams such as UNICEF had I am leary of donating money. Usually I keep it local so that I can kind of keep an eye on how it's spent within the program. I.e. Young Williams Animal clinic. I donate there a lot and I also volunteer within it. I know that my money goes to keeping the animals from having an expiration date, that they get proper medical care on par with most private vet clinics, they also get spayed/neutered and microchipped. Nothing against Sandy victims, its just a personal preference. I mean 5 isnt a whole lot to lose though but when you see the end results of 2.3 million one can only hope that it REALLY goes to the victims and victims alone. I don't know about you but if I knew a victim had black mold growing in an apartment and a ARC employee had a new car to show up to these sites. I'ld be angry. But that hasn't happened that anyones aware of, just a hypothetical. :) It's good that you check into that though Tyrfalas, just curious did you know that or look it up because of my comment? ( Dìego btw)

When the launcher opened and I saw the pet I thought, "Cute!" When I saw what it was for and where 100 percent of the proceeds were going I clicked the link and bought one.
As a person who had friends and family greatly affected by Sandy I'd like to thank those who bought one and also those who supported the effort and, of course, thank you Blizz!
He has a great animation. LOL

As an Insurance Writer here ( Yes working on Superstorm Sandy even now), I am very glad to see Blizzard is going out of their way and help those people affected by that storm. That is awesome to see that people still have compassion.

Thank you Blizzard for being at the top of your game. When it comes to giving back where it is needed you SCORE BIG. By providing the means in which we gammers can all focus in on one reliable company to donate through, to reach those in need, you have set a higher bar for other mmo gamme providers and other companies to follow. I am happy to say I am a WoW player for this cause. More and more companies start to realise just how much this community can do and can help :-). Thank you all for being part of the solution and for helping out. :-)

Awesome to see Blizz and the community doing this. Now I just wish the Red Cross would donate 100% to the victims. I know they have costs to cover, but it'd be nice. Either way, way to go WOW Community!
