Crashing on Login "World of Warcraft Ret..."

Ever since, well, as far as I know, today, I have not been able to log into World of Warcraft. The game launches as normal without any problem, and if I put in the wrong password it simply says that the password is incorrect and what-not and all that non-sense. Anyways, apparently, the process of loading up the Character Select screen has something wrong with it on my computer. (Windows Vista 32bit Home Premium)

Upon entering the valid email and password, the pop up say it is connecting, the freezes there for a matter of seconds (single-digits, not double). Then, the screen turns black for a fraction of a second and that dreaded windows "Stopped Working" pop-up popped-up saying that "World of Warcraft retail has stopped working"

It says it is trying to find a solution and then it goes on and does the only thing it ever does and says that it couldn't find one.

Now, I have searched around, maybe not hard enough, but enough to figure out that reinstalling won't do anything. Nor do I plan on redownloading and installing that 4 gigs it took me to get from 3.3 to 4.0 (yeah, I quit for a while [sorry]).

If I could get some valid help, possibly a blue post (are they still blue on the new community site? [Which is absolutely superfantabulous, by the way]) that isn't radical enough to lead to reinstallation? If someone could help it would be amazing.

Thank you very much,

Proeliator

Can you post the results of the dxdiag command?

To do this under Windows XP: Click on Start, then click on Run. Type in DXDIAG, then press enter. Once it's done loading, click on Save All Information. Open the saved document, then copy and paste the information in your next reply. Please make sure to include the first sections on System Information, Display, and Sound.

To do this under Windows Vista or Windows 7 Click on Start (or the Windows Logo on the lower left hand corner of your screen), then type in dxdiag in the search field, and press enter. Once it's done loading, click on Save All Information. Open the saved document, then copy and paste the information in your next reply. Please make sure to include the first sections on System Information, Display, and Sound.

Proeliator,

Maelfas has the right idea. Lets get a little information regarding your system's video setup.

Windows Vista: Press the Windows Key (the key with the Windows logo on your keyboard) + R (at the same time). Type in DXDIAG and press Enter or click 'OK', this will open the DirectX diagnostic tool.)

I'll need the following info:
System tab
Operating system:
Processor:
Memory:
DirectX Version:

This might sound like a dumb suggestion, but have you tried running the repair tool?

Haha, my friend reminded me of that today. I never thought of it until then, but yeah, I still need to do so. Before I try that I am going to try updating my addons, it broke after an update, I'm sure, so if another update is out it may work again. Thanks again for the help though. I'll be sure to try that first chance I get.

Proeliator,

It sounds like you are seeing a Windows error instead of a WoW error. Running the repair tool isn't a bad idea. It will let us scan the game files for any corruption that could cause the crash.

I reviewed your dxdiag as well and I'd recommend updating your OS. The basic windows updates can resolve many issues like this.

Alright, cool. Either updating the Addons or the OS worked, or maybe a combination of both. But all is well in the land of me thanks to you guys. Thanks a lot
