can a blue update us with wether its on your end or ours? ive tried all suggestions in this topic, the topic on the old forums, and even googled for help..nothing is working..and my wifes laptop (which is the same exact one as mine, same model number/gfx card/everything..) and hers worked fine.

i even tried to copy and paste her whole wow folder from her laptop to my laptop and it still wont work. ive restored to 2 weeks ago, and downloaded everything and still get stuck at 0% when it comes to the shattering..

idk, ive given up, and resorted to playing rock band 2 on xbox till its fixed..(no not canceling my account, cause i can still play on my wifes laptop but that means i gotta kick her off HER laptop and play, and EVERYONE knows you dont piss off the wife)

Constantly coming up with this error when I start launcher. Restarting launcher 2-3x fixes it but still too annoying to live. Launcher didn't need network before... well it wanted it to present news/ads but let you hit 'play' even if it couldn't make connection.

Also launching game directly seems to not work at all now. So launcher never worked reliably and now you are making it mandatory. This is showstopper for many people. Broken software NOT my thing.

After trying many solutions, I got patch to about 85% (playable but still grayed out) & Safemode method helped obtained the remaining amount of patch. Good Luck

I'm terribly confused on what to do. I've tried everything and it seems as if nothing is working. People in my guild tell me to "look it up" but it seems there is no solution. Can a blizz rep please tell me how to fix this.
Having the same problems, "launcher cannot obtain patching information, please check your internet configuration". My game files are copied straight from a computer where the game is working. The game was working perfectly on this computer last month. The files are up to date. Here's the exact error message I get when I try to open the wow.exe:

As a Mac user, Yehvon's approach didn't work for me... this is so frustrating, I have a limited amount of broadband, so I download the 4gb patch and now its not working... argh.

I was struggling with this issue over the holiday break and finally worked it out. It's very frustrating and hopefully I can help someone else who's dealing with it.
First of all, I'm running Windows 7 64-bit Home Premium edition as an administrator. I also use the latest version of Firefox as my web browser. I downloaded the 4.01-4.03a patches without issue and had been able to log into the game without trouble for a day or two. Then wow suddenly disconnected me. When I tried to fire up the launcher again I got the infamous "Launcher cannot obtain patching information." error message. When I tried to bypass the launcher and run the wow.exe file I got an error 134 message that told me I had corrupt game files.
I was then directed to use the repair utility within the game files to correct this error 134. However, I got another error message that said the repair tool couldn't connect to the Blizzard servers. I eventually uninstalled and tried reinstalling from the downloadable game client, but it was unable to connect as well. This is where it got really frustrating, as it was obviously a connection issue, but I was connected to the internet and could browse the web without problem.
After looking up this thread I tried to connect to the internet through Internet Explorer instead of Firefox, but was unable to. I reset IE to it's default settings, cleared all internet history and temporary files, ran a thorough scan of my computer, and made sure I had all Windows Updates relating to IE. This finally allowed me to connect through IE, which in turn allowed the game client to download, install, and the launcher is patching as I write this. I'll update if something breaks again, but it looks good so far. Apparently the patching process must go through IE independent of your browser, which would explain why the blues encourage you to keep up with IE updates and such.
Anyway, sorry for being so long-winded, but this really discouraged me and I wanted to be specific enough to try and help. Good luck to everyone!
Can we please get a blue post on this? I hate to be "that guy" who goes about complaining about my $15 a month but seriously
That sounds like the same process I went through, except the game is working on my windows 7 laptop but not on my windows xp laptop. I haven't tried updating everything with IE but I'll try that now and hopefully get this issue fixed. I don't see why I'm having problems with this though as the game is fully updated from when I transferred the files from my windows 7 computer to my xp computer.

Yeah I read in another thread somewhere that the website reddit.com had a virus embedded in some ads somehow that would reconfigure your internet options. Apparently it would set it up so that your browser would try and go through a proxy server. I don't want to spread unfounded rumors or anything, but that's exactly what happened to me. It might not be just on reddit, either. My anti-virus didn't pick it up until I manually went in and did a full, thorough scan of my computer. I don't know for sure, but that seems to be the only variable that stopped IE from connecting for me. Might be worth looking into if it's only on one of your computers.
IE seems to be working for me, as in I can connect to the internet and browse sites but I still cant connect to the WoW servers apparently. I just updated the game fine on my other computer literally 5 minutes ago, then when I transfer those files to this computer I get the "cannot obtain patching information".

Sorry I can't be of more help, but I can only go by my experience and my limited computer knowledge. The only thing I can suggest is to go into your internet settings on IE and make sure it isn't connecting through proxy, because I don't think it would automatically stop you from connecting though it may interrupt the wow servers somehow.
I just uninstalled and reinstalled the newest version of IE and it's still not connecting. How would I check if a proxy server is interferring somehow?

I'm honestly not that familiar with configuring IE. When I changed mine, I just reset it all back to the default, factory settings and made sure I had all the updates. Something in there fixed it for me.

So I have tried all the gazillion different tfil mfil mpq patch mirror site things that have been posted and for the last patch just downloading the tfil worked. This most recent patch has a different problem, however. I downloaded the new tfil, and all those other files, and it still is giving me the same nonsense message, and what I have noticed is that when I start the launcher, the tfil file I add is deleted from my World of Warcraft folder... any suggestions?

I think there's like several different scenarios which will all return the same error (134 blabla failed to open arcive blabla). For me, I have already fully downloaded the application, played fine b4 on a seperate network but fails on this particular one. Its obvious to me its some network issue, something about the way blizzard connects to the internet in which antivirus and firewall (untangle for my case) dislikes and so wow is denied connection. Can we get a blue to respond to this scenario please? It will be nice if blues can describe what changes blizzard have done and what we are suppose to change on our antivirus/firewall settings in order for us to allow wow to connect to the internet. And disabling the firewall is not a solution
