Can traps finally get their proper fix?

This mechanic has never once been perfected. It was either no trapping in combat, the clunky ice arrow, and now the ice arrow's bigger brother trap launcher. Clicking on the target, scatter shot, pressing trap launcher, then the trap, then the target area.. that's 2 30 second cooldowns, 3 abilities, 5 actions in total needed to CC someone, and that's IF you hit the mark with the trap while no damage was inflicted on your target whether it be direct, DoT, Aoe. What's so hard about making trap launcher a direct firing ability with a cooldown? The only adjustment I'd see needing to be made is that trap launcher traps wouldn't trigger entrapment.

Another problem, the resist rates. It's like a casino when it comes to winning a resist roll, with your opponent being the house. The other day i was lvl 70 in 61-70 AV as survival with the trap resist talents. I drop a freezing trap for a level 62 to trigger. RESISTED. No cloak of shadows or anything.

You guys finally managed to fix Vanish after 6 years, how about traps next?

But seriously, this is truly clunky and not very cool. It just seems wrong to have to spend a cooldown so that you can use another effectively.

Apparently in patch 4.0.3,

Macros now handle spell variant transitions better. For example, Trap Launcher causes a different version of Frost Trap to be cast. Previously the macro system was not handling this transition properly.


I don't know if that means this macro and it's variants will work, but I'm hoping so:

@showtooltip Ice Trap
/cast trap launcher
/cast !Ice Trap

I know I've given up on Scatter-Trapping with Scatter Shot, Trap Launcher and Freeze Trap. Too many buttons to push to do something that's supposed to be simple.

Excellent fix. I'm sure that Spriest would just simply love to sit down and have tea and biscuits with you. Allowing you ample time to lay a freezing trap down and politely asking them to jump up and down on it it like a welcome mat.

My hunter is only 44 so forgive me, but why do you need to use trap launcher after scatter shot? If you're using that isn't the mob right in front of you anyway, so can't you just lay the trap right there?

and i hate to be "that guy" with the complaints but for traps to be considered a staple for our class and still have a liability attached to it is getting tiresome.

If people truly could not see it coming, you'd have a point. But by the time the trap gets to it's intended place, people are no longer standing in that place.

It's rather difficult to activate trap launcher, then select the trap you want to use (now you have a target reticule that you have to place somewhere on the ground) and anticipate where your opponent will be and the fire that trap. The trap has an arming time and by the time it lands and is armed, your opponent is not even remotely close to where you laid the trap. On top of this, the hunter is telegraphing where the trap will be placed. It's like a quarterback yelling at the defense..."I'm going to throw the ball right there!". I suggest you try it out in PvP and see how well you do with Trap Launcher. It's funny in a sad way to see a whole train of people in WSG skirt the trap you just threw down trying to be clever and crafty.

Traps are cool and I like that we can use them, but they need to be a bit more "trappy" I guess.

Also while disarmed, a Hunter cannot use Trap Launcher. That's a bad joke in my opinion.

I wouldn't say that.

-Pets still follow us (apparently being fixed)
-Can be sheeped, feared, snared, etc while in vanish

But I do agree, we're almost there.


Yeah, pets are still bugged

if they can see you, they should be able to CC you...

and if you vanish trying to dodge it and latency screws you, good... because blizz has already stated that dodging spells is not what vanish is intended for... if you want to dodge spells, use cloak of shadows

On topic, the only good thing about trap launcher the way is it is that you can pre-queue it (at least on live) and since it's off the global, you can just keep doing what you're doing and then launch it when u need it

So blizzard is basically saying: "Yeah our mechanic sucks, so you have to fix it with a macro."

Lovely. Now I have 4 more buttons to go with my other 60.
