*******DO NOT POST IN THIS THREAD. POST YOUR ANSWERS IN YOUR OWN THREAD******** ^ Is that big enough? If you're giving advice or answering these threads, see guidelines at the end of this guide. I'm a regular poster on this forum, and one of the most common threads is the classic "I don't know what class/race to be" thread. The main problem with these threads is that the original poster often doesn't give readers enough information to make any suggestions. Help us out, and we'll try to help you :) This is a guide on how to write a detailed "Help me find a class/race" thread. This is not a guide on how to find the right class/race...just on how to ask for help about it. Both sections here can have some gray area, so don't be afraid to give us more information. It's just that veteran WoW players usually know a bit more about the classes themselves so they have more background. They also know more terminology, so it's easier to interrogate them. NEW ADDITION: ICE'S CLASS/RACE SPINNERS! http://img819.imageshack.us/img819/2969/classspinner.jpg DIRECTIONS: THINGS THAT DO NOT MATTER: Faction. All classes can be played on both factions. Survivability. Seriously, you can live to hit the level cap. All classes have this. PvP viability. Again, all classes have this. Doesn't matter unless you're twinking. Raid/group desirability. The only reason you'd be refused from a group is because 1) you're undergeared/bad or 2) they have a lot of that class already. Everyone is viable - DPS are balanced, healers are balanced, tanks are balanced. You want the "best" class/race combo. There isn't a best combo or a best class or a best race. It doesn't exist. Most OP (overpowered) class. Blizzard changes the class balance so much that leveling something purely to be "overpowered" is a futile idea. By the time you hit level cap, the balance would have shifted. Right now there ISN'T a super godly class anyway. Most fun class. I want a bumper sticker that says "Fun is subjective." What I think is fun might not be your cup of tea, so making a good suggestion for you based on "fun" isn't going to be accurate. Use this chart: low Impact on Performance highIF YOU'RE NEW TO THE GAME AND HAVE NEVER PLAYED: ---> OR HAVE NOT REACHED LEVEL 60 YET |

IF YOU'RE ANSWERING THESE THREADS OR GIVING ADVICE:
1. Don't give a one-word or vague answer. Telling someone "I think you should play a mage" tells them absolutely nothing. Why do you think they would like it? 2. Don't suggest a class just because you like it. That's an opinion of what YOU like, not a suggestion of what THEY might like. 3. If you don't know something about a class, DON'T EFFING SAY IT. You don't think druids can tank? Go play one and get back to me with your new perspective. Generalizations don't help anyone, so if you're not intimately familiar with a class or experienced enough to comment on it, then DON'T because it can be very misleading and lead to other veterans correcting you...which can be quite embarrassing on your part and confusing to the person asking for advice. ===A lot of the readers of this forum would LOVE to help people find their perfect race and class, but we can't read minds! ===Feel free to copy/paste the questions here into your own thread! ===Don't answer these questions with bare-minimum answers and one-word replies. This isn't high school English, but more detail will really go a long way in getting a good answer or accurate suggestion. Saying that you leveled a druid to 80 tells us NOTHING. Telling us that you liked melee capabilities and low downtime and shapeshifting of that feral druid explains a LOT. |

Ahh, there it is....I was wondering if you were gonna move this over here. :-)

I just found this fun little "Test" you can take with 10 multiple choice questions that will help you determine what class best fits your personality.
http://fortune.worldofwarcraft.com/en_us/personality_test.html I took the test twice, because on some of the questions I had a hard time deciding between two of the answers because they were both something I would do. The first time I was destined to become a Hunter (My first main back in BC was a Hunter whom I played up until Tier 8 in WotLK) On the second test I took, I used the other answers that I was debating on and didn't use on the first test. This time I was destined to be a Druid. Coincidence? I think not. :-) edit: forgot the link /duh |

I just found this fun little "Test" you can take with 10 multiple choice questions that will help you determine what class best fits your personality. I got Shaman, the one class I have never been able to get above 30 or so. I proclaim this test flawed. |

I got Shaman, the one class I have never been able to get above 30 or so. Well I got druid three times, so it nails the most obvious ones I guess :P |
|
|
I got priest the first time. ^^ And I do love priest so much. It was destiny!
Second time, I got druid--the very first character I ever rolled. And then the third time I got paladin. It, along with mage, is something I just never really played before. Perhaps the test wishes me to devote myself to my upcoming tauren. Hmm... :) |

Bumping so the mods can hurry up and sticky this.

........ Azeroth can always use more Cowbell. |
|
|
........ With this paladin I'm going to roll, I will have contributed three fine bovines to Azeroth. :) /moo |
Second time, I got druid--the very first character I ever rolled. Me too! Long time ago some guildies and I were gathering Mara quests, but when we got to the Twilight's Hammer cultist, I didn't accept the quest. When a guildie tried to share it, I said I refused to help that cult. She said, "You're such a paladin!" So I wasn't at all surprised when my first result was a pally XD |

I support this thread, great idea for helping new players find the right combination.

Cleared on request.

Flash, please clear your post and read the first line of my thread. You're supposed to answer the questionnaire in YOUR OWN thread, not this one. Otherwise discussion would be pages long and convoluted with parallel discussions.
We can't delete posts, so again please just copy/paste yours into your own thread and delete what you have here. Thank you. |

Fark me dead, mate
I read the entire OP and still didn't see it, make it bigger. |
|
|
It's the second paragraph, in all caps...
You won't get much help in this thread anyway, since it's just a template thread. So go ahead and make a new thread and you'll get lots of help right away. :) |

Ice, I love you. However, I don't really understand why this thread exists. Are there people really that lazy that they don't research a class/race before rolling? I have several alts. All are different races and classes. When I get bored with one I play another and then go back to it. It's not like you are locked into a race/class. This thread maybe useful to some people, I just don't get it.
