Level 100 Talents

at BlizzCon 2011 the following was said about talents:
We are making a couple of major changes to how class specializations and talents work in Mists of Pandaria. First, your specialization is now completely independent from your talent choices. When you reach level 10, you will still choose one of three specs (e.g. Discipline, Holy, or Shadow priest) to determine your role, play style, and which signature abilities your character has access to. In addition, you’ll receive more of your spec’s defining abilities as you level up.

Secondly, the talent system has been redesigned completely. At regular level intervals (at level 15, 30, 45, 60, 75, and 90), players will now be able to choose between one of three very powerful talents. All three specializations will have access to the same three talent options, and our goal is to make sure that these talent choices are appealing to all three specializations with no obvious “must-have” options for any of them.

Obviously, things can change, but I noticed a LOT of the level 100 talents change depending on what spec you're in...ALL of the druid ones, a lot of the other classes too, though

So now they are NOT completely independent of spec and all three specializations don't have access to the same talents

It just seems like we're trending toward different talent trees for different specs

They're on mmo-champion.com
Taken from the playable computers at BlizzCon

So, obviously they can still change, but they've already put (seemingly) a lot of work into figuring out what they're going to be

They're also on wowhead.

As for druid talents, dont forget druids have 4 specs

imagine if death knihgts till had blood dos/frost/unholy tanking!

So that's why they have 4 options under the one talent.

Also PERMANENT INFERNAL DOOMGAURD!!!!

There's the WoWhead Warlords of Draenor talent calculator, based on the talents seen at BlizzCon.

Talents now can have different functions for different specs. Picking one of the new Hunter talents, for example, With or Without You, gives a BM hunters pets all the pet abilities like Rabid, Roar of Sacrfiice, etc, regardless of the pet spec, and gives MM/SV Hunters a 30% damage increase if they have no pet out.

It only seems to really apply to the level 100 talents for most classes right now, though.

They said at Blizzcon they were reducing tooltip bloat. Tooltips, set bonuses, etc all update themselves automatically based on your spec. Take Druids for example. Dream of Cenarius has a different effect for each spec. When you're in Resto spec, you'll see info relevant to Resto in the tooltip. When you're in Guardian, info relevant to that spec. The talents are still independent of spec, as promised, but you don't see ALL the possible effects if they aren't relevant to you.

But the whole point of these new talent trees when they made them was that they were the "same" for all specs...but they aren't anymore...now the talents change depending on their spec...the opposite of the initial plan

It's to allow them to make more distinctive and desirable talents that are easier to balance and make attractive.

Most new talents are passive modifiers or ability replacements anyways so spec specific splits would be obviously be required for that.

*shrug* Design philosophy changes over time. Clearly, at least in regards to some of the level 100 talents, Blizzard decided that having a talent function exactly the same for every spec in a class didn't make sense, depending on what the talent does. Probably makes balancing the tier 100 talents for classes whose talents act like that easier, too.

Which I am all for...so why even pretend like they're the "same" talent for all three (or four) specs...just go back to different trees for each spec

Because why make full talent trees again over a fringe case that right now only really pops up in a single talent tier?

People will try to use ANYTHING as an argument to get what they want.

The only talent tier where a talent functions differently for each spec right now is pretty much confined solely to the level 100 tier of talents. Blizzard has also said that, for the time being, they are satisfied with how the talent trees have worked out.
