Should retribution be viable in high end PvP?
|

No.

I love the pures coming in here and saying 'No' - I mean who else is going to heal them right?
Ret is the only DPS spec of the class - just because I chose a Paladin at the character creation screen should not preclude me from adequately filling the role of a DPS in (competative) PvP... This is a game that we pay to play - why is my $15 a month any less important than anyone else's when it comes to getting enjoyment out of the game? Just because I choose to play a Paladin shouldn't preclude me from being able to compete against other DPS for a spot in a team or rated BG... People are so damn selfish, it's ok for YOU to play how YOU want - but not me huh? |

All classes should have 1 viable PVP spec. At the moment for Pallies it's Holy. Bahahahaha...let me know when your MMO comes out so I can go buy it. |

You're new to this game, on the character selection screen you like the idea of a knight of holy wrath. Great analogy. Let's expand on it so it makes sense. Imagine you always wanted to be a fireman. You grew up and immediately, when able, enrolled in "fireman training." You spent up to 6 years in this training doing everything right -- hoping to put out fires. Then, all of the sudden a fire finally breaks out. You're ready and willing and you think you've done everything you've needed to to put into the position as "that guy who puts out fires." Then, all of the sudden your city gov't tells you that you won't be putting out any fires b/c you're just not very good at it. Instead, they'll be using some other guy who's got some other tricks for putting out fires that aren't available to you. Beyond that, the gov't won't even let you take any of THOSE classes to learn any of these new tricks because they heard you're an awesome seamstress -- even though you hate sewing and would rather collect unemployment. So there you are, losing out on getting all the babes for putting out fires because you have the potential to be a sweet ass seamstress...even though the idea of sewing nauseates you. That sounds like a better parallel. |

I'll raise your question, with another.
Should people who play Ret, pay to play WoW? |
|
They pay $15 a month, just like everyone else?
You're new to this game, on the character selection screen you like the idea of a knight of holy wrath. Funny isn't it. People who play WoW, pay to play. Yet, Fireman are volunteers. When life gives you lemons, you make Greek food? Personally, my subscription ends Dec 1st. Won't be back until Ret is reported to be working fine in both PvP and PvE. Until then, enjoy arguing. Not a bad decision I'd say, cause I get to avoid all the ganking that would inevitably happen. After all, every other damage spec can basically face roll me now. Not to forget, the massive explosion of players who would hog all the quests. |

You could make an argument for many classes/specs that have not been, or are currently not particularly viable in high end pvp. (For example, enhancement shaman, combat rogues, moonkins, fury warriors, etc.) They should all be every bit as viable as ret pallies are in PvP.
Just because you do have problems (and they do exist) doesn't mean that blizzard should drop everything to make ret viable. One viable spec is better than the 0 viable specs that have existed from time to time for many classes. |

(For example, enhancement shaman, combat rogues, moonkins, fury warriors, etc.) They should all be every bit as viable as ret pallies are in PvP. The problem I have with your statement is that no ret player here has said 'screw the other classes and fix us first!' And, to cite your own argument, maybe we should tell moonkins to go pound sand since resto is good at pvp? 'Hey! Be thankful you've got ONE viable spec!' Or maybe we should dis enhance shamans too while we're at it? "Sheesh guys! We fixed ele for pvp! What more do you guys want?' or 'Hey, at least resto is good!' It's almost like you want us to feel bad for not advocating for other classes/specs. I'm sorry, but although I do have different classes as alts this is my main and so I am most concerned with ret's state of affairs. It doesn't mean I'm not unsympathetic to enhahnce shaman, moonkins, lvl 85 fire mages, combat rogues or anyone else that is currently experiencing problems with the changes, it' just that I feel I am most qualified to comment on ret issues so that's where I put my energies. |

Saying you should play holy is just flat stupidity, its like been forced to play a class you have no interest in. An honestly thank god the devs dont agree with all you fools, which is why feral balance and resto are so good same with elemental resto sham and to a lesser degree enhancement, which has had some solid comps, far better than ret has. The devs know about rets problems espcially kitability and dispell issues which ret suffers from greatly. the buffs have already started with cleanse removing any snare or rooting effect, and as for the dispell problems its an issue for alot of classes so whatever changes are made can only help ret. |

No, they have holy It's crap like this that makes me skeptical about humanity as a whole. Sure, fine. From now on, Holy is the only viable spec for Paladins again. Also, if we're going back to this style: -Warlocks don't do nearly as much damage as Mages, but bring debuffs that they have to cycle. -All other hybrids have to heal as well. -Warriors are the only tank that works. -DKs go back to being good against casters and not much else (which was their original design). -Shadow Priests only get in groups to be mana batteries. -Arcane Mages are pretty much non-existent. -Only Arms gets MS. -Enhance Shammies get to one shot people with 2H Windfury, but fail otherwise. There's a reason that Blizz moved away from that mindset, and that's because we weren't playing a game with 30 (well, 27 at the time) specs, we were playing a game with 10 (9) classes and only one good spec for each. That wasn't fun by anyone's standards. |

(For example, enhancement shaman, combat rogues, moonkins, fury warriors, etc.) They should all be every bit as viable as ret pallies are in PvP. Moonkins are awesome one of the stronger specs in fact, and as for enh it has a few issues but its had at least one (usually 2) solid comps for a long time now,. |

(For example, enhancement shaman, combat rogues, moonkins, fury warriors, etc.) They should all be every bit as viable as ret pallies are in PvP. No one said you're wrong, but this isn't a class project ya know. If they don't work, then fix it. It's not that hard, so long as Blizz employee's are willing to give up their ideology. You know, how every class should feel unique. Only that, it just really screws things up. Warriors have Hammer of Justice. No I'm sorry, their version is better. Warriors can now heal themselves. Warlocks and Hunters are topping healing meters in BGs, and I have no idea what they're doing to do that. I'm working hard to be a team player and use my Holy Power to heal other players, yet Warlocks and Hunters are topping meters? I come back after 8 months being gone, and nothing has gotten better for Ret. Won't be staying long, I can assure you.
Blizzard is quick to nerf, but slow to buff. Why can't it work the other way around? Why can't they be quick to buff as well? You make it sound like the changes the Ret community wants is going to take weeks of sleepless nights, even though most of the suggestions are really just copied versions of other class abilities. I'm not saying they should, but it's not like Ret is getting something like Heroic Leap. Simply things like a slow, no dead zone, no massive range, and maybe a snare isn't something that should take sleepless nights. It may sound homogenized, but it's not like other classes didn't get abilities from Paladins as well. |
Saying you should play holy is just flat stupidity, its like been forced to play a class you have no interest in. I went through that nonsense in Classic WoW and TBC. I have no desire to cause self-harm to myself ever again. In no way what so ever do I plan to ever heal or tank in WoW. I can be any spec you want me to be, so long as it's Ret. |

Saying you should play holy is just flat stupidity, its like been forced to play a class you have no interest in. playing a hybrid and refusing to play either of the other trees under any circumstances is extremely foolish. if you are going to play a hybrid for one spec only, you really had no business rolling a hybrid. that kind of attitude will only lead to disappointment 100% of the time. |

What kind of question is this?
Yes of course. |

Saying you should play holy is just flat stupidity, its like been forced to play a class you have no interest in. If "playing a hybrid and refusing to play either of the other trees under any circumstances is extremely foolish" is fair to type, then "playing a hybrid and unable to viably play either of the other trees is extremely stupid design" is an appropriate response. If a choice is to be utilized, it must exist. Otherwise, THAT is no hybrid, just like there almost weren't raiding hybrids in WoW 1.x (exception: Warriors). Even someone like me, who has absolutely no problem healing in PvP, would not like having no viable DPS choice. I would not be playing a hybrid then. Now if your response was "I understand you SHOULD have two viable roles at least, but the reality of this game is that Blizz simply isn't able to balance it all out ideally" I'd say you have a point. Every tree of every spec SHOULD be viable and that is not the case currently for reasons of time and effort. But don't call it a hybrid if it ain't got no choice in roles. |

playing a hybrid and refusing to play either of the other trees under any circumstances is extremely foolish. if you are going to play a hybrid for one spec only, you really had no business rolling a hybrid. Do you even know what you just said? That's objectively wrong. You're projecting the idea that everybody who makes a hybrid needs to tank or heal. Do you even know what flavor is? I made this character because I wanted to play as a Knight of the Silver Hand and defeat the Lich King. Which I did. My first character was a warrior that never made it past level 12. Why? Because i didn't enjoy it. So by your logic, if you want to DPS as melee, make a rogue. Don't bother two handed DPS, even if you like two handers, because your better off as a tank. That is stupid beyond believe. Please be a troll |
