As of today i all of a sudden cant get on any of my toons that i logged out in northrend. I was in the middle of argent dailies on Jonicus here and the gme locked up. I have tried now for over a 3 hour time period to do the normal stuff to get back in. wtf folder etc etc. I can get on my lowbies in org just not the toons in northrend. I started to get a Blue screen of death after the screen freezes when the loading bar completes. any help would be appreciated. I understand i have been using a 6 year old laptop but it has worked fine since i started playing 3ish years ago. Im not the most computer literate but if im asked for specifics i can bring them up (spec wise) any help would be appreciated

This should be in Tech Support, however......

This sounds like an Intel graphics driver issue. Ensure you have the latest possible installed, and then add the following to your config.wtf file (located in your World of Warcraft\WTF folder):

/SET fixedfunction "1"

OK. Let's take a look at your specs then. (You're in Tech Support now. ;-) )

Post the results of a dxdiag..

Click on Start, Run (Vista / Win 7, use the search box) and type: dxdiag

At the bottom of the dxdiag box, select Save All. Post the contents of the file that you create here.

A BSOD is a hardware/driver issue...it doesn't really have anything to do with the game. The game just happened to try to hit a graphics function that should work but doesn't with your hardware. /set fixedfunction "1" disables ALL advanced shader effects (effectively permanently locking all graphic settings at minimum and turning particle effects off), that sometimes helps with low end hardware that is having issues. But I have seen people using Intel graphics cards that even this doesn't fix. There may not be much you can do if you've already updated drivers...you are hitting either a hardware or driver bug.

There are newer drivers.. However, being that you have a Dell, it may not allow you to install them with the .exe installer.

http://downloadcenter.intel.com/SearchResult.aspx?lang=eng&ProductFamily=Graphics&ProductLine=Laptop+graphics+controllers&ProductProduct=Mobile+Intel%C2%AE+945GM+Express+Chipset+Family&ProdId=2301&LineId=1101&FamilyId=39

Check on Dell's website first to see if there's an updated driver first. If not, we can do a manual driver installation by using the .zip file from Intel's site and extracting the drivers from it manually, then applying it to your notebook.

i last went to the intel site and it said i had a "custom setup" and refered me to the dell site. the del site scanned my comp and didnt suggest any newer updates. is this because of the age of my comp and the fact i run xp?

My apologies for the triple post but manual install sounds possible like it may be a tad over my head. im no thte most computer savy. How would i go about doing this?

It's not that bad... Download the .zip file on the previous link I gave you. Extract it to a folder (call it IntelDrivers or something like that). Then follow the instructions here:
