Simplifying currency? That's the grand plan?

I wish I could figure out how to do the quote thing. In post #13 he talks about hairlooms from Garrosh. I really need a hairloom. My hair is kinda pathetic right now.

So we're jumping to conclusions based on a poorly worded title? Because in the article, where the guy had to be corrected on what Valor and Justice were, they talk about changing how the system works. They don't say anything about stripping them away.

RNG is here to stay, it's an important mechanic to mmos, and many games in general, (*It is also a throw back to dice rolling in pnp games*).

They've been pruning various currencies for years.

I'm not sure I'm happy with valor/conquest changes. But I'll wait and see what alternate forms of advancement are out there for people prior to reacting to anything.

Indeed. Didn't we have eight different ones at the start of Wrath?

Though I'll reserve judgement on this change, as someone who doesn't raid or do dungeons, the whole Valor/Upgrade process is how I get the gear I need to make doing dailies and world events a bit easier.

Came in thinking I could get currency for stripping.

I'm disappointed.

How is this any different then live, really? There's no SoO level valor gear right now, and the valor upgrades are so easy to get they might as well not exist.

While i do agree that RNG is pretty bad, and can be quite annoying, I dont see why removing currencies is such a big deal.

From a pve standpoint, what currencies do you use? For the most part, Justice points and Valor points. Both currencies really dont get much use anymore.(Justice is virtually worthless) I dont see why it would matter much if they removed these currencies, and replaced them with something new.

“We think we can take the bonus rolls system and make it a little bit more intelligent, so that it tries to avoid giving you duplicate loots - and allow that to be the way players counteract bad RNG,” explained Hazzikostas. “It removes a little bit of the grind and a little bit of the awkwardness of the current valor system.”

If you gonna quote a source quote the whole thing not just the part you want to take out of context.

Hopefully, it's intelligent enough to know that Fury Warriors want two of Garrosh's Two-Handed Axes for example and to the point where we won't get three or more.

“We are planning on simplifying our currency structure,” lead encounter designer Ion Hazzikostas told PCGamesN.

Where exactly does it say they're doing away with it all together?

If you simplify an equation, you'll still have the equation.

If you take out RNG the developers have to develop much more content much faster, at a rate they can't sustain with any level of quality.

RNG is what makes these games viable. Its at the heart of every MMO. Playing an MMO is no different then going to a Casino, except there are more rules and you invest time instead of money.

Pecking at that same boss each week hoping it will one day drop the one item you need to complete your set is not. Instead, it is fake difficulty.

Just because a gameplay feature is annoying and frustrating does not make it difficult.

RNG doesn't make PvE "harder".

It just makes it stupid.

Couldn't agree more. They should be looking for ways to eliminate RNG, not add more of it.

Three, You are basically limited to one gear drop every X number of weeks that you do dailies and raids. With RNG you can theoretically obtain multiple upgrades in the same week.

My hunter ran lfr for a YEAR before getting rid of that stupid klaxxi rifle. Had a dozen duplicate belts though.

Stupid move. I think they should go back to wrath and just let you buy your tier set and then pick up upgrade tokens and some BIS pieces in raids.

...

You madam have made the most valid point on the thread. I think this is the mentality we as player a player base need embrace.

Yes and no. I know of plenty of players who maybe slid by with badge gear because they would not have gotten any from raiding because they weren't good enough to raid. However, there are also other folks with time constraints that did not raid but could have done well, who also got the same badge gear. So it works both ways.

It doesn't really matter though what player xxx is wearing though. How does it affect you if he has badge gear? So he stops skill-wise and gets better gear and then...? What? How does this affect you?

I'm tired of people posting that it doesn't matter what another player is wearing. It shows a complete lack of understanding of the psychology of what differentiates MMO's from single player games. It does matter in an MMO because it effects the game as a whole. I don't care what someone does in a single player game. They can use cheat codes for all I care. An MMO is a game where your gameplay impacts all the people around you.

There's a lot of current discussion going on about the effect of the "everyone wins" philosophy plaguing our society as a whole and a lot of great blogs on how that philosophy has trickled into game design and why it's bad. WoW is a great example of taking that philosophy to the extreme to the point where we'll never see world events like the Scourge Invasion. You can bet that whatever the pre-WoD event is it will be locked behind a solo Scenario of some kind so no one gets their panties ruffled.

Justice is one of the easiest ways to get heirloom gear for alts, so in that it has value.

Valor is trickier right now, prior to the SoO patch, the 522 valor gear was really good, still quite decent for a 90 who is still in the gearing up process. heck for some (most) of my toons now, the 522 trinkets would still be a slight upgrade over what they have equipped, and those that have replaced them already used them for a decent amount of time.

But, it's not even as good as SoO LFR gear, so mileage may vary.

It goes beyond that.
During T15, I was SMF Fury with a Protection offspec.
That means I would have wanted 3 one handed weapons (since my enchants on them would have been different).

This tier, my off spec now toggles between Arms (for cleave centric fights) and Protection (for when I have to offtank). Think this "intelligent" system will be smart enough to know when to allow dupes and when to block it?

I don't have a lot of confidence in Blizzard ability to get this right. At least not without a lot of bandaid patches post release.

Complete hogwash.
RELYING on RNG can cause this since there will always be outliers who get stupidly lucky and "finish" a tier ahead of everyone else.

Properly tuned gearing system will ensure that the content will last just as long as the RNG based system. By reducing the reliance on RNG, you would actually have more control over how fast everyone gears up.
