We've recently seen a few questions regarding the functionality of Transmute: Living Elements and whether or not its effects are truly random. There's definitely some behind-the-scenes magic to this particular transmute, so we wanted to provide a bit more explanation on how it works.

Typically, when you use Transmute: Living Elements, you will receive 14-16 random Volatile elements (Volatile Air, Volatile Earth, Volatile Water, or Volatile Fire) in exchange for 15 Volatile Life. If you use this transmute while in one of the new Cataclysm zones associated with the Elemental Planes, however, the element into which your Volatile Life will transform will be predetermined. For example, if you use Transmute: Living Elements while in Uldum, you will always receive Volatile Air for your efforts.

Here's a list of the affected zones and their corresponding Volatile elements:

Additionally, alchemists with Transmutation specialization will always receive bonus Volatile elements when completing this transmute. The bonus will be random, though, regardless of which zone you are in.

As I - quite literally - just picked up this skill a few minutes ago, I find this guide immensely useful and helpful. Many, many thanks for the bonus info.

I was in deepholm and did my transmute. It put me on a cooldown, took my 15 volatile life and gave me nothing in return. I put in a ticket but I am pretty annoyed atm.

I figured I'd post this here as open ticket response time is measured in continental drift times for a response now.

I was in Deepholm yesterday and I did a Living Elements transmute, only to get nothing. Transmute worked, took my life but I got no elements back and since it was yellow I did not even get a skill point. I was shape-shifted when I did it,which could have caused the bug.

Just a little heads up,not sure if anyone else has had this happen.

Today I did a few transmutes in Uldum to get the air from life. In addition to the 15 air, I also received 15 earth. (This is in addition to the extra's I'd get from a transmute mastery proc which would give me an additional 15 for 45 volatiles total)

Is this intended?
Are the other elemental zones also giving an additional pre-determined 15 volatiles?

This statement is INCORRECT.

I am transmute master and only receive 14-16. Please fix this oversight
I just did this in Deepholm (at 6:47 AM PST). Not only is the extra proc for a Transmute Master not working, the main proc is also not working. That's right, I just ran Transmute: Living Elements, it used up 15 Volatile Life, I got nothing at all in return, and my cooldown is now active and I have to wait until tomorrow to try another transmute.

Agreed. I'm transmute master and the 3 times I've done this transmute I've received just the 14-16 converted volatiles, nothing extra. All 3 have been done in SW. It's definitely not "always" granting the bonus for us transmute masters.

I just did this for the first time and I didn't receive the extra volatile elements. I was in Hyjal, so I don't think that you always get them, just like any other transmute.

I'm furious.

I used the spell, it used up my 15 Volitile Lifes

I got NOTHING..

no bonus, nothing that was promised.. big fat waste.

I put a ticket in considering each volitile sells for 50g a piece on my server..

Just speculation, but the statement about zones may mean the zones that you get the other volatiles from (the ones that were listed). I haven't tried this myself yet. Perhaps Lylirra will update the post again?

I transmuted in Uldum and got 16 air and 16 earth. I'm transmute specc'ed on my Alchy so I assumed the 16 earth was the proc from that. But maybe it's a bug.

Just to add my voice to the chorus of transmute masters...

I was pretty sure this hadn't happened with my transmutes for the last couple of days, so I just tested it to make absolutely sure with today's transmute. In Uldum, I got 16 air in exchange for my 15 life, but absolutely no extra ones.

(Unless I actually 'got' 14 air, say, and 2 extra air for transmute specialism. Is that how it works, in those sort of numbers? Because if so, some clarification on that would be very welcome. It's a little confusing right now, and it's really looking like it's broken.)

EDIT: From other replies here, I see that I should be expecting a whole other bunch of stuff. So yeah, something's definitely not right.

Question, does this share a cooldown with Transmute: Truegold?

Yeop!

And for the full 12 hours to boot!

Considering you can get completely HOSED and get NOTHING for your 15 Volitile's it may not even be worth using this at all..

What a bust.
