So i start the launcher and hit play. The screen then turns black and just sits there until i ctrl+alt+del and shut it down. I have tried running it as Admin and launcher.exe file, i have also ran a repair. This just started happening this morning.

Go ahead and post your DXDIAG here so we can have some more info on your system.
To obtain the systems diagnostic files, follow the instructions below: To obtain the DXDIAG file: 1. Press the Windows Key (the key with the Windows logo on your keyboard) + R (at the same time). 2. Type in DXDIAG and press Enter or click 'OK', this will open the DirectX diagnostic tool. 3. Click on the 'Save All Information' Button (save this file to your Windows desktop and name it dxdiag). Now copy and paste the information to this thread. ________________________________________________ Account and Technical Services || I am available Tues-Sat 6:45AM-3:45PM Pacific Can't find a resolution on the forums, contact a Support Rep directly: http://us.blizzard.com/en-us/company/about/contact.html https://www.surveymk.com/s/RZRWLCB ---- Show me you love me! Your system needs some love.
You should show it some affection by updating your operating system to service pack 2 (you can do this by running the Windows Updates or by going directly to Microsoft.com). It would also show that you cared if you gave it shiny new drivers from ATI's website. Driver Date/Size: 8/20/2007That was the last time the drivers were updated, and most manufacturers release new drivers every three months or so to fix bugs and improve functionality. I am having the same exact issue, all of my drivers are up to date, including ATI. This is a new Windows XP SP3 install (maybe 7 days) and wow install, ran fine before patch, now i have to open the program file, click on the WOW icon instead of the launcher for it to run wow.
I also did a system restore to yesterday BEFORE patch, and it worked after installing the last bit of the patch information. But upon closing wow and restarting it, it does nothing again. Any fix for this. It seems i am not the only one with the same issue so it cant be a coincidence. Thanks. |

This is also happening to me and my husband since the last patch. The launcher loads fine and immediately, but when we hit play it disappears and the game never starts up. It only shows up in task manager as a process, launcher.exe, with no CPU usage and the memory is not a problem. We have been bypassing the launcher every day since the patch by using the wow.exe file in the wow folder. The only similarity our 2 computers have to each other is the same graphics card with current drivers.
Any updates on this issue? |

I have been having the same issue since a patch a few months ago. I found a way around it and was able to open the game through the files. Until 2 days ago. I had to dump my whole system and upgrade from vista to win 7. This has been very frustrating to me and I was kinda looking forward to the dump and reinstall. I reinstalled this afternoon. It downloaded the patch and said it was set to run. I hit play and....................... The launcher went away and NOTHING. I cant find away around it to open it through files on win 7. I have tried restarting, I have tried restarting computer a few times. I have disabled all security, I have exausted everything I can think of. I get Nothing. I am frustrated with this and would really like some advice. I have been dealing with this since June or there about. Please help if you can.

I'm currently having exactly the same issue here. Looking up to the above posters, it appears that a commonality is the ATI HD series graphics cards. I've made a recording of my desktop, and the long load time. Link here: http://youtu.be/R8MLhI_Aw2M (the video is about 8 minutes long, and there are gaps in there where I wait for the game to load, so you may want to skip it a little bit if you wish.)
What I have noticed however, if you leave the launcher running, after 2 min 50 seconds (almost like clockwork), it starts wow.exe up. I have monitored this on multiple occasions, and the video (no sound by the way, its just a functional video), has run the launcher twice, and both start wow up eventually pretty much exactly the same time. As posters above have said, wow.exe straight from the folder is instant. I personally have a sneaking suspicion that its the latest Catalyst drivers, but I will do some more testing to prove/disprove otherwise. Here is my Dxdiag on my machine that I've recently fresh installed less than a week ago. I run a dual monitor setup, with wow in windowed mode. not sure if that would make any difference or not, but thought I'd just add that in there. Below the DXDIAG is my launcher log. Additional testing I've done, I have copied my wow folder from my laptop (which works fine, Intel i5 and Nvidia graphics) to my desktop, and run the launcher from the new copy. Same exact issue. I renamed the launcher.exe in the video, ran a repair, same issue. ------------------Launcher Log of one of the recordings:#----------------------------------------------------------- # System started at 2012-02-17 11:37:26.9563 # system: ***** #----------------------------------------------------------- 11:37:26.9570 Launcher version 4.2.1.2685 11:37:27.0453 World of Warcraft version 4.3.2.15211 11:37:28.5715 Starting PatchOnDemand system... 11:37:28.5715 Retrieving torrent information from the server. 11:37:28.6449 Download Tags: EXP3,EXP2,EXP1,Win,enUS 11:37:29.1720 Storage subsystem initialized to C:\World of Warcraft\. 11:37:29.2463 Portmap log: UPnP: broadcasting search for rootdevice 11:37:29.2463 Portmap log: UPnP: adding port map: [ protocol: tcp ext_port: 6881 local_port: 6881 ] 11:37:29.2463 Portmap log: UPnP: adding port map: [ protocol: udp ext_port: 6881 local_port: 6881 ] 11:37:29.2463 Portmap log: NAT-PMP: found router at: 127.0.0.1 11:37:29.2463 Portmap log: NAT-PMP: ==> get public IP address 11:37:29.2463 Portmap log: NAT-PMP: error on receiving reply: No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it 11:37:29.2688 Torrent Resumed. 11:37:29.9251 Portmap log: UPnP: found rootdevice: http://127.0.0.1:2869/upnphost/udhisapi.dll?content=uuid:c4dcac57-292a-4b27-beed-b73ad72b05d9 (0) 11:37:29.9251 Portmap log: UPnP: connecting to: http://127.0.0.1:2869/upnphost/udhisapi.dll?content=uuid:c4dcac57-292a-4b27-beed-b73ad72b05d9 11:37:29.9251 Portmap log: UPnP: could not find a port mapping interface in response from: http://127.0.0.1:2869/upnphost/udhisapi.dll?content=uuid:c4dcac57-292a-4b27-beed-b73ad72b05d9 11:37:30.3634 Finished checking files. 11:37:30.3788 Play-on-demand initial values: Total Bytes: 16001007616 Base Bytes: 47448064 11:37:30.3788 Stage 0: 9098231808 of 9098231808 bytes 11:37:30.3788 Stage 1: 0 of 0 bytes 11:37:30.3788 Stage 2: 6902775808 of 6902775808 bytes 11:37:30.3882 Found peer on local subnet: cce9238c7d3e2043089456c17724c9622f90eadf peer (192.168.1.150, Unknown): received peer from local service discovery 11:37:30.3883 Found peer on local subnet: cce9238c7d3e2043089456c17724c9622f90eadf peer (192.168.1.150, Unknown): received peer from local service discovery 11:37:30.3884 Found peer on local subnet: cce9238c7d3e2043089456c17724c9622f90eadf peer (192.168.1.150, Unknown): received peer from local service discovery 11:37:30.3885 Found peer on local subnet: cce9238c7d3e2043089456c17724c9622f90eadf peer (192.168.1.150, Unknown): received peer from local service discovery 11:37:30.3886 Found peer on local subnet: cce9238c7d3e2043089456c17724c9622f90eadf peer (192.168.1.150, Unknown): received peer from local service discovery 11:37:30.3887 Found peer on local subnet: cce9238c7d3e2043089456c17724c9622f90eadf peer (192.168.1.150, Unknown): received peer from local service discovery |

Had the same problem for months and sadly unsubbing because of it...Different PC and 6 months later and this software is still not fixed, indeed it seemed even more broken with the recent 'optimization'.
Made a video of the problem: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wI7VEPHwE70 Anyone with the same problem who arrives at it might get an idea of something to try... |

Well an update to this thread since it never got resolved, the latest patch seems to have fixed the problem for me. I can now use the launcher once more and get into the game instantly.
