Topic Holy Paladins: A disastrous class design.
87 Human Paladin
I was going to make this thread sooner before the recent paladin nerfs, but there was so much healing QQ that I decided to wait, but these recent changes have pushed me to respond now.
These recent nerfs are a result of poor class design that wasn’t properly tested in Beta. This is what happens when you try and re-design a class in the space of a few very short months.
Let me make this very clear before I continue, I don’t want to be overpowerd. I want to be balanced with every other healer. I can accept nerfs. And this has very little to do with pure numbers / healing meters.
Even with these nerfs we will still be brought to raids, and we will still be bought to 5mans, although our job has become a lot harder.
So what’s my problem? The entire class design and mechanics of Holy Paladins is a complete and utter mess. With the introduction of Holy Power and then nerf after nerf to all our class mechanics and abilities, its left our class in design nightmare.
So what’s the source of all our problems? Holy Power of course, the primary Retribution resource that was forced into Holy Paladins withought a moment of thought as to its long term effects it would have on class balance. If “mana is supposed to matter to healers”, as blizzard recently said in there reason for nerfing holy paladins, then why in gods name did they introduce Word of Glory and Light of Dawn as MANA FREE HEALS. What was the point of Beta if something so simple could go by unnoticed?
To continue on this disastrous discovery of a continuing failing class design, we now move on to Tower of Radiance, a talent deep within the our talent tree that has now been nerfed to the point it may no longer be worth specing into it. They give us Holy Power Mana Free heals, and then remove our ability to gain holy power besides our incredibly nerfed Holy Shock that heals for less than Holy Light on a 6 second cooldown. I thought Holy Power was ment to be a fun addition to the class, now it’s just a burden where blizzards idea of “balance” is to reduce how often we gain Holy Power. Unfortunately this dose nothing to fix the real issues with this class and people will find ways around this via Crusader Strike and then were back were we started.
Quick Fix: Add mana costs to ‘Word of Glory’ and ‘Light of Dawn’. Ultimately I would rather see Holy Power removed from Holy Pallys all together since it clearly wasn’t thought through properly in Beta testing. However that would require more effort then blizzard is prepared to put into this class and is unlikely to happen.
All ‘flow’ from this class has now been nerfed to the point where its no longer fun, things don’t work together anymore, talents are going to waste and we must rely on gimmicks to get as through content. I want my spells to work together, I want my Holy Shock to actually heal fro more than Holy Light, I want healing the Beacon target to actually mean something, want my Daybreak procs and my Eternal Glory procs to add interesting and fun gameplay to my usage in Holy Power. I want to have fun, and right now, with these recent nerf sim finding it very hard to do so.
