I did read the stickies, here is the deal though. My friend lost his email to the account he needs to get back.(He forgot the password to the email, so he can't login and can't change the email, because you need to verify from the old email to change it to the new email)
He hasn't been on in so long that his account isn't even connected to battle.net yet, how can we go about getting his account back without that email?
He needs to log in his email to verify it to connect it to battle.net, but like I pointed out.. That's impossible, so he can't login at all. Is there a way to reset it or change it?(Sorry if I sound redundant)
The easiest and most straight forward would be to recover the e-mail address account via secret question/answer
The only other option is to call billing and explain the situation. They will ask some questions to verify the account ownership, it will help your case tremendously if your friend can answer the secret question to the account. There is no guarantee they can help, but they are the only ones that can

Even not knowing anything about the account its possible to get it back. They would ask you to fax over legal copies of identification and it would have to match the info on the account. They ask for that anyways in a lot of cases

Adding it to a Battle.net will be the first step. All WoW accounts must be in a Battle.net account - and that's what you signin with from that point forward.
Then he could add a trial of Cataclysm should he wish to just see it first, or upgrade straight away.
Now, if he doesn't have control of his account, starting with Billing for assistance with that would be where I'd recommend he begin.
