Homosexuality in Roleplaying

Before I continue:
This is an open and free discussion, but I will NOT have it become a homosexuality-bashing thing. So if you're anti-gay please just leave.

Alright.

Now the interesting question I have for all of you is this- would it make sense lore-wise to have a homosexual character? I'm NOT talking about somebody parading around naked and waving a rainbow flag, but somebody whom might just say "Yes, I knew him. We were lovers, once."

I know alot of Roleplayers out there don't like getting into a whole sexuality or relationships thing when they're doing their thang, but it's something to think about.

Please be open and honest in your thoughts and comments.

I am Anti-gay, but Read before you think I'm bashing.

Two RPers in my Guild were Female Draenei. They had a homosexuality thing going on that was accepted by the Entire guild as well as all RPers considering no one trashed them for it. I think while it's almost impossible, it can be done. Just do it right, and don't tell every single person you see about it.

We're pretty well accepted.

As long as the characters aren't gay for the sake of being gay and being a spectacle? what's the harm?

Addendum; I personally think all the Night Elves we see around have more viability in lore than anyone else (says the "Dark" draenei, bit of an anomaly myself)... After all they guarded while the men gender slept for thousands of years.

I'll say that again.

The women stood around for ten thousand years while the men slept.

Tic Tac Toe can only amuse one for so long, you know? Before Sentinels start looking each other in more... appreciative ways.

I don't think all the men slept, only the druids...

Did all the Men sleep? They couldn't ALL be druids?

Edit: Beat me to it -_-

But, like I usually think, I think people are entitled to RP as they want, as long as they don't go around screaming that they are a special snowflake because they are half demon, or gay, or w/e. If you play it right and don't go telling everyone how special you are because you are gay, nobody who isn't ridiculously against homosexuality will care. However, if you do go screaming it out, even people who don't mind homosexuality or support it, will likely dislike you.

Hrm. Got censored.

Also; oh. That's just how I understood it.

I thought all men -were- druids back in the day.

It might have been the larger population of men did become druids, but I'm sure that a few remained simple merchants, warriors or the like...

Now, you can still make the argument when it comes to Night Elves that they began to... broaden their horizons, as it were during the 10,000 years they've been alive.

Much of the male gender of Night Elves were druids. That's what the Stereotype was. "Oh you're a male Night Elf, you must be a druid." etc. Does that mean all of them were? No. A majority? Yes.

So either there were a lot of very overworked males, or the women went elsewhere.

Just my two cents.

It could even be the drag of living for so long, as well. It's almost a... standard in contemporary fantasy that elves are more open when it comes to sexuality, because of the fact they live for such a long time, eventually some might get tired of doing the same thing over and over again.

All crude spectacles of sexuality are immature and belong in Goldshire.

As to homosexuality and role playing, I have no problem at all with it. If you want your character to be straight, so be it. Gay, so be it. Bisexual, so be it.

If you just think everyone is disgusting, SO BE IT! It's not my character, it's not my role play.

I'm personally gay and once I get around to making a good character he is going to be gay. It's what I am most comfortable role playing and what I would enjoy role playing the most. That's just the way I feel.

Most people role play their character as their own sexuality. That's totally okay, because that's what you are comfortable with.

We really need to get over this whole gay focus. Why does everyone care so much about my sexuality, or my character's sexuality? I don't care what your character is banging unless your character is banging mine! HAHA!

Along with the fact that, genetically, short lived races are usually programmed to sexually reproduce to ensure special survival. When you're dealing with an extremely long-loved species, however, this instinct might lapse eventually.

What's wrong with discussing it? If you can't be open when talking about sexuality, then you shouldn't have posted.

Also, I made this thread mostly to just see what the general consensus of the Roleplaying community was.

Seeing as how I have 2 characters currently in relationships with other girls, I don't mind at all. In my case, it wasn't sex that brought the characters together, and its not what keeps them together. It's an RP device that both I and the other player agreed to, and we do not allow our RP to "degenerate" into constant rogering. But we do confront difficult decisions and work together for the benefit of the couple, and the extended family.

It's fine, just don't run around flaunting it like it's your character's only trait. Make sure it suits the race, too. I can't see a homosexual dwarf (male or female) working out, but I can totally picture elves, draenei, humans, etc.

Just try to avoid the typical pitfalls of homosexual characters. Sexuality shouldn't be a big deal, but some people make their character's sexuality just... ugh... impossible to ever want to be around. From the mysterious elf who always hits on ladies, to the draenei chick who can't stop saying how much she loves boobs. Sexuality should hardly be a huge focus. It's just another piece of your character. It's like somebody making a big deal because their character is left-handed.

It's hard to be left handed anyway. "Are you? Well, why are you holding your sword in your right hand?" D'oh.

LOL you misunderstand me. I was just pointing out that there always seems to be this focus on sexuality. Sexuality is just one part of my character, and I dislike that it's blown up into such a huge deal sometimes.

I mean, I sit in Silvermoon and all that happens seems to be macho fighting or hitting on people. Can we not flesh our characters out beyond that?

I'm sorry. I didn't mean to come across as attacking the subject we're discussing. It was just me complaining about how I wish the world was haha!

Let me answer your question with another question, would it make sense history-wise to be homosexual? Your characters are people too, Alex did it before, she befriended a female half elf, she was lonely, she believed her husband and her family to be dead, two women spend enough time grieving they need someone and they end up living in the same home, things happen.
