I might have a few...
You can also check Xayton's stickied guide and adapt the information down to level 83, it's not that much different.
I've been running exclusively Heroics, with the exception of Argaloth, but he's too trivial to count as a "raid".
As far as I know, my spec would be OK for raids as well, but I'd find a way to work in Divine Guardian if I was raiding.
i havn't played a pally tank since uldar raiding, didn't really go far.
but i remeber throwin down concercrate every cooldown, seems all diffrent now.
its like info overload! what i knew means nothing now, thinking i wait to 85 use the rest of the quest rewards on tank gear, keep reading the guides and see how i go from there...
OR i could spec tank now and practice on the quests, i'm leveling this toon with 2 other people..
85 Blood Elf Paladin
it is pretty easy to not go wrong on a tank spec. With how specs are now, its pretty much you single out the couple things that won't be helpful. I do heroics, and divine guardian is only semi useful. The instant queues as a tank is one of the main reasons, although soon as I don't need as much rep I probably will try changing things up in pve a bit.
I would say start going prot now, we have dual spec for a reason. I find it enjoyable, works well for leveling too, dps isn't amazing, but its nice never having to worry about health, and in some cases it can be quicker, like downing multiple mobs.
Yeah, Consecrate is no longer an important part of our rotation. It's VERY expensive, has a low uptime, and only does moderate damage on anything other than large pulls. It is a useful tool though, especially for picking up mobs as they run towards you, you'll just have to get the hang of when to use it.
I switched over to tank spec at 82, never having done it before, and it didn't take a long time to get the hang of. Once you go beat on some mobs with it, you'll get a decent feel for it before long.
NEVER EVER EVER use the EJ thread. Its old. Its dated. It contains inaccuracies and somehow is based on the work of maintankadin and STILL gets things wrong. Worse yet they are recommending specs without DG for PVE raiding (including the one you are asking about).
ANY spec for PVE raiding without DG is FAIL. For heroics i guess you can get away wtihout it but what are you gonna use that point for? 1 more point in either RoL, GC, or PoJ? The most OP cooldown ever, an ability that can save your group for that? Regardless, almost all of those specs listed on EJ are bad.
The guardian spec is closest to being correct for PVE but AS ALWAYS the EJ prot pally guides finds a way to fail. Its a WoG spec but he doesnt use the WoG glyph for it, and CS is more threat than Judgement anyways. It also takes SotP over rule of law. Rule of law is more threat than SotP and actually increases survival. The CORRECT specs would be one of the following:
The 2/2PoJ 2/3RoL spec slight loss of WoG crit and threat for increased speed:
What i call the Xayton spec (1/2PoJ 3/3RoL) slight loss of speed for more threat/WoG crit:
I call this the Fean spec (1/2 GC 2/2PoJ 3/3RoL) and its the one im going to use. Slight loss of AS utility for more threat/WoG crit/ and speed:
This is the spec i saw on Theck of maintankadin (1/2 Reck 2/2PoJ 3/3RoJ). Max survival and utility but loses a point in one of our best threat talents:
These are the specs you should be considering for PVE.
If you want a GOOD prot paladin guide use Xayton's sticky or maintankadin guides. Not EJ.
