Living elements proc nerfed or bugged?

I hate that the chance is really high, but not 100%. Getting lucky and getting a big chunk of volatiles felt good. Getting unlucky and getting 0 extra volatiles on rare days just feels bad. It's a psychological thing - having a small chance to get boned just feels bad comapred to a small chance to get rewarded. I'd rather go back to the old system, or if you want to keep the really small highly regular payouts, make the proc rate 100% - even if you have to lower the number of volatiles even more to keep it balanced.

Honestly, Pot and Elixir mastery and, for everything else, Transmute Mastery always gave approx 20% extra results AFAIK. So a 100% chance to get 3 extra volatiles, or 2-4, or 1-5 would be right in line with that.

Let me get this right, there should almost always be a proc now, it will just be smaller than before, but because we almost always get it, it will even out in the end? Correct?

That's what it sounds like to me, except I did a living elements transmute today on my transmute master and got no proc. :(

I know that "almost always" is not the same as "always", but Blizzard should not underestimate my failure with RNG. ;)

Did my first transmute today on my druid since the patch. I ended up getting an extra 6 fire.

While I was disappointed it was only 6, I was thrilled that my transmute spec finally paid off (transmuting almost daily since the 2nd or 3rd week of Cata.. and only got a truegold proc once, and never a living elements one).

I can be happy with smaller procs that happen more often.

I wanted to hop in and clarify and confirm there was in fact a change that was implemented with the patch that unfortunately did not make the patch notes.

The change actually adjusted the return on the transmutes so that you weren't getting spikes in the amount of items you'd get from the transmute. Instead, if you transmute over a period of time, the amount of the transmute return should even out.

So basically if you transmute on a regular basis, you should see a more regular return on the transmute vs. a spike in large returns. Transmutation specialists will almost always get a PROC when transmuting living elements.

Ok so what I get from this as a whole for xmuting is instead of xmuting and getting like a 5 proc on truegold and then a 2 proc on true gold one week then next week getting nothing but no procs it will now be more like a 2 proc every other day over the course of 2 weeks?

That should be about right. It wasn't about reducing the amount of procs you could get so much as evening it out to be more consistent over all.

Woah I am sitting in the dung heap compared to you then, three procs in the past three months combined>_<

This is a WAY better deal.

I got like 3 procs of transmute, back when you got an extra stack of 15. So over tons of transmutes in Uldum, I got 3 procs. So figure 45 extra.

Since this patch, I get about 3 -4 extra EVERY DAY.

Today I did 16 air, plus 4 more air.

Thanks for the update, Neth! There's always confusion about this kind of change after patches when it is not in the notes.

Yeah, I agree with the people who say the rare big procs are a lot of fun, but I'd much rather get get frequent 2x, you end up with much more stuff in the long run that way. >:D

Assuming they got the numbers right, you actually don't end up with more stuff.

In the long run, both the current and old setups should provide the same returns.

I've been very unlucky with procs, since cata launched I've had one 2x on truegold and none on the volatiles at all, and I've done a xmute every day. The last 2 days I got an extra 8 water and 4 air, I'm happy with the change :D

Gah so many people who are bad at maths.

15 volatiles on a 15% proc is the same as 2.25 volatiles per day. Every single person who posted in this thread got more then that.

So better to get a little amount of volatiles you can't use, as opposed to a lot of them.

I got the transmutation specialization when it came out, and over the years I estimate I've gotten 0.000000000000001% bonus procs. So for this to even out someone would probably going to remove some of my existing volatiles :-/

I have done transmutes since the day I got my Alchemy high enough to do so. So almost 2 months solid now. I have yet to see a single proc in either Living Elements or Truegold. Since the patch went live I did do a Truegold transmute on Tuesday, and Living Elements yesterday and today and got no proc.

I'm starting to wonder if it is related to me going to specific zones. I always go to one of the zones based on which volatile we are currently low on in our guild bank. I have never done the transmute of Living Elements in a zone that didn't have a guaranteed outcome of the volatile.

Blizzard is just bowing to the casual transmuter maaaaaaan.

In all seriousness, I have 2 alch, only 1 is a xmuter and this is a great change. I'd always prefer to bet on a sure thing.

I like it then. Good change.

We're very sorry about the confusion and lack of note. Please feel free to keep us up to date if you see anything else that seems out of sorts and we'll try to take a look at it.

With every expansion we've released, we've generally had another follow-up patch that makes a lot of additional fixes and adjustments. Unfortunately, that also means things slip through the cracks despite our best efforts. We do what we can to address those as quickly as possible though and will continue to do so.

Sorry I'm a little slow on the uptake so help me out here. If I had terrible luck with transmutes before this change, like maybe once every two weeks my daily cd would net me a x2, I should expect to see more now for all of them or is this change specific to Living elements?

Just Living Elements, if we're reading it correctly.

Instead of 14-16 extra volatiles every so often, it'll be 3-6 (or something like that) almost every time. Averaging out to the same overall long-term rate of gain.

This change only works for Living Elements, since it does a bunch of items (15 volatiles at a time) rather than single items (a truegold bar, for instance).
