I realize this will probably be trolled to oblivion, but I have to ask: what's up with naming your toons Somethingqt or Somethinglol? Why is this a trend?
On another note: I've noticed a lot of the people who consider themselves hardcore pvp'ers also find it cool to talk down to people, act incredibly arrogant, and troll a lot. This spreads into the PVE world to some extent, but I think it's more pronounced in the PvP community. To be quite frank the "I'm better than everyone and I call everyone baddies, l2p" attitude is quite sickening to me, and it's turning me off of the game. Ironically enough all the people I know who are 2300+ rated don't act like this. I can see where the attitude might stem from, at least on the forums (which are flush with trolls in general), but I don't see how that justifies it. I don't see why you would take part in something (trolling) you claim to hate so much in the first place. When did a video game become about belittling people and growing your ego instead of having fun? |

If you have qt at the end of your name you're pretty much better than everyone else.
EDIT: Kittyqt and Meowmeowqt were already taken, so I have this stupid name. |

In all honestly in any competitive environment this will happen. Anything sports, E-gaming, or anything that can possibly be held as a competition will always have people with an elitist attitude. I think the reason it happens more, or is noticed more, is because over forums and computer screens these attitudes get even worse since they don't have to actually see or face the person they talk junk to.
This isn't a new thing either. I remember Doom 2 being played over DWANGO (Dial-up Wide Area Network Gaming Operations) back in '94-'95 and things could get so heated, you'd literally get knocked offline because some dude you beat would be calling your house and interrupting the connection ready to scream at you. Egos originate from the people not the game. They'll bring it to any environment they see fit. Even places where it seems dumb. A lot of these people will try to make a contest of anything but some games can attract more of them. I recommend ignoring them. |

I appreciate the response and I know what you mean; I guess the thing that I don't understand is how having a monster ego and being rude to people became the cool thing to do. I've spent time in competitive environments before, and there are always a handful of people who act this way, but they're usually just ignored or shrugged off -- in WoW it seems like these people are almost... respected for acting this way, if that makes any sense. And that's what I don't understand. I'm sure it does have something to do with being behind a computer screen, however. |

Oh then you're talking about a different type of people, the ones who brag about everything, rude attitude and in general making people mad.. are called trolls, and yes they're respected in some ways because is hilarious how they can make some people mad or jealous, it's internet entertainment at its best. And about the names? I honestly don't care, why do they bother you tbh? I just lol at all those Male belfs with variatons of sephiroth or legolas and/or all the fem belfs with any anime related name, they're usually free hks. |
im so going to faction transfer to male belf and rename maiself sêxýãrthås |

I realize this will probably be trolled to oblivion, but I have to ask: what's up with naming your toons Somethingqt or Somethinglol? Why is this a trend? The WoW in-game community has become a haven for people who suffer from a lack of attention and / or respect irl on account of social, monetary or mental shortcomings. Earning and exhibiting their in-game accomplishments and belittling people who cant quite afford the luxury of devoting a lot of time to the game and / or dont wish to socialize with the kind of people i just mentioned. This gives them the feeling of power, individuality and a sense of self-control that they cant seem to find in real life on account of their personal aforementioned shortcomings. This also gives them a venue to release their built-up aggression and frustration that are the result of their life failures. Something they might not have the courage and confidence to express in their real lives to real faces where they might face real consequences. All that aside, i really cant wait for Star Wars: The Old Republic. |

You know that women act the same way when men hit on them, they are disinterested in lower-quality suitors. They may come off as ignorant or rude, etc (from the guy's perspective) to prevent these crappy men from trying to sleep with them.
We do the same thing essentially as high rated PVPers, to prevent us from playing with bad players. A good player can immediately tell if you are trying too hard to earn his respect and will disregard you as a potential arena-partner. Sorta like some %%!* Darwin thought up but in another context, yamean? |

I know at times the qt or lol is added to the end of a name when people transfer and their name is taken, so they can be recognized.
@ the ego thing, yeah I agree. Normally I'm a nice person, very willing to help out, and try to not say anything mean/negative. Only time I go back on this is if someone clearly isn't as good starts to QQ or if they start crap with me/my friends. I also noticed that some people don't really realize then they're actually less skilled than another player. Once our guild RBG qued up against an entire team of gladiators, we pretty much got smashed. Our leader started to get angry and tell us to stop being bad and to focus "These guys are bad, we should totally win this" "Eh? They're all glads" "It doesn't matter glad doesn't mean anything, they're still bad" I'll admit I'm not an amazing player and will shut up when put in my place. But when some 1500 warrior starts to call me bad and OP then I go off on him.
You know it could just be we're not interested? |

Ignorance never stopped me before. |
