Hi,

For the past week or two, every time I open the Blizzard Launcher, it hangs for at least a minute before allowing me to click "Play" and launch WoW. After it "unfreezes", no news stories are displayed in the window, it says "World of Warcraft is up to date", and a yellow exclamation mark appears in the lower left corner that brings up the Connection Info window when clicked (nothing appears in this window).

I've never had any issues with the Launcher, and no computer or network settings have changed recently. I'm at a loss here. Any help would be appreciated.

I know you mentioned that no settings have changed, but some proxy settings may interfere with the launcher window. These settings can sometimes be changed by malware. Please open up Internet Explorer, click on "Tools" then "Internet Options". Now go to the "Connections" tab and click on the button that says "LAN settings". Make sure that "Automatically detect settings" is checked, and that you are not using a proxy server. Click "OK."

Then test to see if this helped. Let me know what happens.

I had AVG Anti-Virus (free version), but I actually just uninstalled it to see if that impacted anything. It didn't. The Launcher still hangs for about a minute. :-\

Another program may be interfering. Try selective startup to get around this. Please be aware this mode will disable any security programs you may have running so refrain from doing other things while in this mode.

Hold the Windows key on your keyboard and press the letter 'R'. In the Run field type "msconfig" and hit Enter.
In the General tab:

1. Choose Selective Startup
2. Disable (uncheck) Load startup items
3. Click OK and Reboot

To undo selective startup, just recheck Load startup items.

I tried that, and the Launcher is still hanging in the same manner (i.e., it says "Initializing, please wait" for at least a minute, and if I click anywhere in the window, I get a Windows alert that the program has stopped responding).

Parts of the launcher use Flash. If Flash is out of date it may be causing some issues. Lets ensure that you have the most recent version of Flash to see if that helps.

Can you post some information about your computer? You can find this information in the Direct X Diagnostic Tool:

Click on Start
Click on Run
Type in: dxdiag (In Vista or 7, type dxdiag in the search field)
Hit Enter or OK

Click on the Save All Information button at the bottom, and create a dxdiag text file, and copy and paste the entire dxdiag file into your reply.

There is a better video driver available than the one you currently have installed. Lets uninstall the current driver by using a program called Driver Sweeper. This program will ensure that all previous driver files are completely removed.

Here's a link to the Driver Sweeper download: http://phyxion.net/Driver-Sweeper/Driver-Sweeper/Version-2-9-0/

When you run the Driver Sweeper you will want to select Nvidia Display and Nvidia PhysX, and then click on "Clean"

When you are going to install the driver I would like for you to select Custom Install > Graphic Driver only.

I actually see that there is an even newer driver at Nvidia's site: 266.58. Should I go for that one instead?

Also, I'm not sure if this might shed some light on the cause of this issue, but I've noticed that other things on my computer are all of a sudden hanging for long periods of time. For example, the Windows "Help and Support" window is essentially useless because it constantly hangs (slowing everything else down at the same time). And when I go into the Local Group Policy Editor (gpedit.msc), the same thing happens. It take a good minute or two to do anything in it, such as select an item or resize the window.

Not sure if the issues are related, but I figured I'd put it out there.

I've tried your steps, and it all goes fine until I try to install the graphics driver. After about 15 or 20 seconds, the installer gives me a message that the installation failed. No additional details. :-\

Any ideas?

Had the same problem for months and sadly unsubbing because of it...Different PC and 6 months later and this software is still not fixed, indeed it seemed even more broken with the recent 'optimization'.
