....they should be GIVING us tickets. lets do the math.. (over)11 million subscribers times the $14.99 a month subscription.. Grand total.. $164,890,000.00 .. that's just WOW subscribers not to mention the pets and all the other "things" (other games, Tshirts, toys, cards....) people buy from Blizz. .. and you still want to BUY tickets to Blizzcon so you can "be the first" to hear of some new patch that won't come out for 3 years.. or some "idea" the developers are kicking around? Here's an idea, take that $175 bucks you were going to spend on Blizzcon tickets and go buy a new sports coat or dress and go out on a date with your significant other. Then the day after (or an hour after) Blizzcon you can read online about the wonderful "what if's" you missed hearing about at the convention... knowing your money was put to better use, you'll sleep much better. Hell, you might even get lucky after that dinner/date thing. But that's just my 3¢.. do as you will /steps down from soapbox |

Grand total.. $164,890,000.00 .. that's just WOW subscribers not to mention the pets and all the other "things" (other games, Tshirts, toys, cards....) people buy from Blizz. i understand your point. but factor in their cost, number of employees and their salaries etc., then give the difference. it will still probably be a lot of money. regardless, most corporations generally don't put on a multi-day event for free. it'd be nice, and yes, they could afford it, but the object of business isn't to hemorrhage money. that being said, i agree that it's an overpriced ticket for entertainment that is mediocre, "news" that will be available soon thereafter, and plans that won't go into motion for a long time. but if that's what people like, they'll keep paying for it, and blizzard will continue to grow and water down every production that made them successful in the first place. but i digress. that last paragraph was subjective, by the way. |

Nobody goes to BlizzCon to get "inside information" on anything; it's all about the experience. Blizzard is too large of a corporation to keep anything secret for long, so people go there knowing what to expect. It's a meet-up, more than anything.
Hell, most conventions and trade shows use this same rationale. I've been to PAX, Comiket and quite a few anime conventions, and with the exception of Comiket, I've never "found" anything there I couldn't get from a forum, Amazon, eBay or Steam. It's really just about being around thousands of people with a similar interest, regardless of the number of neckbeards or the..."piquant"...scent that pervades the convention hall. I think that Blizzard mentioned they lost $20,000 hosting the last BlizzCon, hence the rate hike. And all that aside, $175 is really not all the much in the grand scheme of things. Some people will spend ten times that, just flying to California from Europe or Asia. It's all about priorities. If the price is worth it to you, then it doesn't really matter what other people think. And I'll say that the Jaedenar Meet-up was pretty amazing last year :) EDIT: A vast number of WoW's 11,000,000 subscribers are in China, where the game retails for less than $10 and everyone uses prepaid cards that cost ~$5. Moreover, Blizzard does not operate the game there; World of Warcraft is licensed by NetEase, who funnels roughly 25% of their revenue back to Blizzard. |

Someone do the costume contest with me.
I was thinking something like this http://www.tgdaily.com/files/images/stories/article_images/conventions/blizzcon08/blizzcon08-costume-450.jpg |

Going to Otakon in Baltimore. + blizzcon tickets are all bought out by scalpers in the 1st 2 mins of them being on sale, at least this year there is a limit of 4 per transaction.
|
^ This, if you don't know anyone going, I probably wouldn't recommend it. If there are people who you talk on vent for hours a week that are going, it'll totally be worth it. |
They had the same limit last year, but that didn't stop scalpers :(
It'll be even more amazing this year if we're all at the same table =0) That's why I need an accurate headcount! |
