Downloader Port Change Notice

Support Forum Agent
Starting tomorrow (April 26, 2011) the Downloader and Launcher will no longer use TCP port 3724 for downloading.

They will now default to using TCP port 6881, but can use any port from 6881 to 6999. You'll want to make sure that range in your router is open for the Downloader and Launcher. You may need to pass this information on to your network administrator if you aren't able to configure the router yourself.

Marty, does it still need to be open for game play?

Drezbek ,

Yes, you still need TCP port 3724 for game play. It's not going to be involved in downloading any more, that's all.

I'm going to guess this has alot to do with why Norton products (SONAR-enabled) are red-flagging any content coming from it. SONAR looks at the launcher which now has a different communications channel and this is affecting patching for those of us that use Norton products for system protection.

This is probably why it had not flagged the downloader process in the past and now suddenly, the day you change this function, it is.

Not even close.

SONAR's flagging it because so few people with Norton have downloaded the patch yet. It doesn't use heuristics or anything, just info from Norton's Head Office on the # of ppl who've downloaded the file already.

The last patch, SONAR also flagged and caused problems with as well.

No it really didn't. I had the same installation of Norton 360 at that time and it didn't flag it at all. Sorry, but that's totally incorrect.

It may not have for YOU last patch (did you install it later in the day?), but it did for MANY users, to the point we had to have its own sticky about it..

I'm getting "Failed to download information about new patch. Check your internet connection."

My internet connection is fine, and I've never had problems before. I use McAfee Internet Security, and to be honest, it's a pain in the... to change stuff. Can anyone tell me how to allow new ports?

Windows 7, by the way.

If you're having problems patching, please begin your own new thread with a description of the issue and what you've tried. This thread is really just an announcement regarding a change. It's not meant for troubleshooting.

Respectfully, this decision was a mistake. I now must take my computer to a different network to patch. The network I am on will never ever open up bittorrent ports. Please reconsider.
