Just gotta say this is a terrible decision, unless there's a LOT of complete reworking of the queue system to be done as well.
The last time I queued for a rated BG was when 15's was still happening (so it's been a while). You know how long it took us to get one? 1 hour 15 minutes.
After 30 minutes, we had 3 people leave, so we requeued after finding replacements (not sure if we had to - can't remember). 45 minutes MORE of sitting around doing nothing, we had our rated BG pop. Of course the other side was way better geared than us (and not a server pug, either), so they stomped us.
I'm sure we could have handled the stomping, but it was the 75 minutes of being able to do NOTHING that really killed anyone ever suggesting doing a rated BG again. No dailies possible is just...stupid.
Sure, we were in a raid, but we were in a raid for over an hour. That is simply not compelling gameplay.
I hope the same faction rateds work, because "lore" is a pretty dumb reason to have such one-sided queue times.
But if there are noticeable queue times even after same-faction rateds, Blizzard NEEDS to allow at the very least daily questing to be done while waiting.
You can do dailies while waiting to raid (due to not actually having to be in a raid until it starts, especially if it's a guild raid - due to vent and guild chat - there simply is no queue). You can do dailies while waiting for a 5 man (even if you are 4 queued together minus a tank or a heals or whatever). You can do dailies while waiting for a random BG. But you can't while in a raid queued for rated BGs.
Maybe same-faction rateds will solve long wait times. Maybe there's no long wait time right now, I don't know. But the original implementation of rated BGs was, IMO, terrible (is Strand still one of the rateds? I simply cannot imagine a worse BG, and it's laughable it counted for conquest originally). That bad taste of how things were lingers with people.
And now you want to FORCE people to do them (or forgoe 1/3 of their allotted conquest for the week). Not really a brilliant idea.
Like someone else said above, I stopped raiding because of the time commitment. Solo PvE is laughably easy in this game, and 5 man content is mostly a breeze, so I've focused on PvP on my 4 85's (well, 2 of them primarily, 1 kind of, and 1 not really). Mostly random BGs, but some arena on my druid and shaman. I LIKED how things were set up not too long ago. Now, arena wins give less - that's more time commitment. But on top of that, you MUST do rateds to even get the "minimum" cap?
Arenas were easy to jump into 1 or 2 if time was limited, but rated BGs? That's basically raiding.
Who comes up with these ideas?
