I kept seeing the series crop up in fanart on DA so I got curious and read it all one night.
It was a very long night. At first I was like, "I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHAT'S HAPPENING. I HATE THIS." but then it grew on me. And now I'm shamelessly addicted. Anyone else? |

Exactly. It's like all these beautiful but confusing colors are flashing in front of your eyes and all you can do is sit, captivated.

Oh gog yes, I'm so addicted. Love how it starts out random, but grows into an epic, complex, semi serious stoyline, and the originality of the format and such. |

I'm having trouble convincing any of my friends to get into it. It starts out dumb and silly and becomes.....dumb and silly?
After giving a brief description of the time shenanigans in the story, I got one of my friends to start reading Kanaya's perspective of her trolling Rose starting at http://www.mspaintadventures.com/?s=6&p=004595 He kept complaining that he didn't understand what was going on (pointing to the Flighty Broads and their Snarky Horse@@!%ometer, and then the incident with the pail). I don't know how far he got. |

Hahaha apparently the new meme is Pantskat from the recent updates.
http://browse.deviantart.com/?qh=§ion=&global=1&q=pantskat And yeah homestuck is one of those comics that is nearly impossible to explain to new readers. You just kinda have to hope they start to fall in love with it as they get further. The first few parts of homestuck I really was like, "I don't understand this and it makes me angry that it is so stupid." and then as it went on I was like, "Okay one more page...one more page...one more page." |
|
I have no idea how I found it, but once I saw it, I had to read the whole thing, and Jegus is it good. I went and bought pretty much every album from their bandcamp site, as the songs are too amazing to only hear on one particular page, which you might hurry through to see more of the plot.
Just as cool as the story itself is the thread on the mspaint forums where they point out things a lot of people miss, notably that all the chat handles are different DNA pairings. http://www.mspaforums.com/showthread.php?37421-Obvious-things-you-missed-5-WV-likes-green-%28but-phrased-wittily%29 Has links to previous threads in the first post. |

Yep, that's it. However, that first page you're looking at is years old. If you look at the archive you can see how far it's come. It won't show recent pages unless you manually click on them down towards the bottom. The comic starts as a weird MSpaint click thing but it goes on to expand into a storyline once the kids find out they're playing sburb. It especially takes off when it gets to the trolls and hivebound. |
|
For how long it is, it's really not that old. Only a couple months over 2 years. Crazy.
The trolls/hivebent starts in Act 5. So far, Act 5 is almost as long as all the other acts combined. (Act 5 = 1869 pages, Acts 1-4 = 1987 pages) From the homepage, there's a 'recent updates' list on the right. I always use that, not the archive. |

Hmmm, homestuck I've heard of it because my dear close friend doodles tons of very nice fanart!

I guess a brief synopsis would help for people who have no idea what it is.
Homestuck is about a group of four kids who started playing a new game called Sburb. As it happens, Sburb is and always was what defined their entire universe. In their struggle to survive, they have to dodge meteors, fight imps, deal with the pestering of trolls, and figure out the mechanics of the game. The charming quirks and overall silliness of the characters overlays interesting personal development. Between the time shenanigans, cosmically powered pets, alternate worlds, adventurous pirates, intertwined relationships, tragedy, mindbogglingly intricate story developments, bounty hunter lawyers, frustrating inventory management, coolkids, recurring themes, omniscient creeps, redemption, and extreme live action role playing, Homestuck is a very unique and interesting story. It gets all the points. All of them. http://www.mspaintadventures.com/ Original soundtrack: http://homestuck.bandcamp.com/ |

I read it once but I didn't like it.
BUT! If I hadn't read the title or seen descriptions of specific things I would have thought you were talking about slightly damned, which I am now hopelessly addicted to after reading about it on these forums and having basically the same reaction as you guys had to Homestuck. So my guess is that Homestuck is going to be awesome, but one of those things you can never get your friends to like. If I didn't have crap to do tomorrow I would spend all night reading it. |

wow it is pretty addicting. Hahaha it's totally baffling and yet awesome, isn't it? I felt the same way. |

It will definitely keep you occupied.
