Topic HALP! Kind Of Long...Need Some Input!

Ok so I need a little bit more help. I have been looking around off and on all day at different WoW related sites and it just isn't the same as getting some actual input. If you do not want to read through what I am looking for / at...just skip to the bottom where I have listed what I need the most help with...but as you read it, remember, please, I would like a class that levels well with a Hunter. I have also put in bold some important points throughout.

We have decided to level from scratch. I will mess with leveling Nin or Kharmaa off and on or whatever...
So here is my question(s)...

I am trying to figure out what to level. I will be leveling with a Hunter as a partner so kind of keep that in mind as far as what works well together.

I have wanted a priest forever. Got one to like 71 and was sick of Wrath so she is just sitting there. I enjoyed playing her...but the game has changed so much I really want to start completely over. I really kind of would prefer having a class that heals (but it seems like all classes have SOME healing now so maybe I should branch out from the classes with a full healing spec?...still...I DO love healing and it would be nice for instances....).

I also have started mages, and a warlock. I liked both. My issues while leveling each were..mana issues (down time) with the mage (as well as seemingly less DPS than other classes at lower levels).... and cast time with the lock (There was barely time to cast and the Hunter would have the target dead etc). This may be different now given all of the changes to the classes and spells. The lock was the most recent class I was working on and I REALLY had fun with it. BUT it was frustrating when leveling with a Hunter because he would have the target dead before I could cast if we happened to be on the same target. Just seemed like he killed twice as fast at lower levels.

So anyway, these are the classes I am torn between. Please don't think 'I can't pick what class you would want to play for you'...I am not asking someone to "pick a class" for me. I am just looking for some input since things have changed so much. I am *trying* not to focus on the end result and whether a DPS would be a 'bad' idea compared to a healing class, but it does cross my mind.

What is most important to me is which is the most FUN...I would like:

Little 'downtime'
survivability
(possibly the option to heal)
Good CC
Ability to kill multiple targets at once
(or at least contribute via DoTs or something)
Versatility (I will likely never find it like I have with my druids but at least SOME would be nice...I would like to be able to choose which spec will work best in each situation ...ie: leveling, instances, PvP)

And finally..again, a good combo with a Hunter.

STAY WITH ME HERE I'M ALMOST DONE I PROMISE!!!!!!!!!

Lastly...Is there a spec that is *best* for leveling each class...?

Any pros and cons with each spec?? Any suggestion for the second spec?

Priest- ??

Warlock - ??

Mage - ??

I thank you in advance for ANY input!!! As I said, I have searched all over for the 'stats' and even the class forums. I just DON'T want to waste my time yet again and start a toon only to abandon it at like level 30-40. So some input from those who have some experience with leveling these classes...and the knowledge on the changes since all of the Cata changes would be HIGHLY appreciated!!!!!

Please contact me here or in-game with any help you have to offer!

Thanks,
Kim (Kharmaa, Nin, Sub)

OH! One more thing (sorry!)...

(For Horde):
Are there any lowbie areas (besides the new classes) that have changed much? Or is it all pretty much the same with a little change to how it looks? Have the quests in any of the areas become more interesting or changed at all? Any preferences for a start zone ??

I definitely will level a Goblin just high enough so that I can do that area, but I am wondering if the lower level quests have changed and gotten better at all.

Thanks <3

Mages have downtime? News to me. I found my latest warlock and priest lowbies had the most downtime out of the 3 clothies. Priest got better past level 30 (either as disc healing or shadow). Deleted the warlock, again. Really anything works with a hunter.

All of the 1-60 content got overhauled, there's going to be the odd zone that hasn't changed much, if at all (Arathi, looking at you). Undead starting zone to 30ish is nicely done now (Tirisfal, Silverpine, Hillsbrad and then to WPL I think?) Goblin has the best starting zone, but it does suffer from phasing syndrome I found (tend to go out of sync with party members unless you quest one by one). Soon as you hit 58, you might as well go to Outland, then promptly grind the hell out of it so you get back to Northrend.

Okay awesome. Thanks so much.
When I said mags had downtime...this was umm2-3 years ago and I was about level 25-35 ( think I was frost?)...and it seemed like i was drinking after every kill in STV or whatever. So I am sure it has changed.

Any particular reason(s) that you don't like the warlock?

That is good to know about the Goblin zone. I am pretty sure that will just be something fun I do on my own when I can just for the experience.

Thanks again for the info. For the mage...which spec would you suggest for leveling? Is one or the other best in a group compared to solo?

Thanks Op!

I've kinda tried other classes (played a rogue and warrior that were level capped so I didn't get the chance to level them), and I've been told a million times I'd like a shaman, but since I have such a limited amount of time to play...(and have the Heirlooms already for any of the above), I figured I would stick to ones I know for sure I will not put down. At least until I have more time to invest into playing.

I level slow as it is (constantly wanting to read the quests and I 'stop to smell the roses'...it can be annoying to anyone leveling with me) =D... so combine that with a lot of time that I don't feel well enough to play and I decided to just stick with something I can completely learn from scratch...but still know that I like the play style.

(I am pretty sure I am not a huge fan of melee. Even on my Druids...I don't like playing kitty dps...I DO like tanking, however...but again, I have the druid for that).

I think you're putting to much effort into this...

I guess I missed what qualifies you to tell me what too much effort is. And I am prettttty sure I could say the same about too much effort to you, but I wouldn't. :) When you aren't well enough and have a lot going on so you can't spend hours on end in game, you tend to want to do it right. I'm sorry that my "effort" offends you.

NINE?!?!?!! WTF Arch!! Ok then you are my girl! I am [ ] this close to creating my toon and getting nagged at for not hurrying up but I can't find anything I am looking for about the classes as they stand today! (and for the record...I never had downtime on my lock and loved her..I am almost leaning that way again).

They use to have leveling guides on the class forums that gave some clues about this and that. But basically all I have found about locks has been confusing...it usually is though with locks. They seem to be the one class where people are soooo die-hard about a certain spec and way of playing.

I was reading a bit and gathered that Aff has been "nerfed", using my big blue friend is stupid for leveling now annnnd that was kind of it. OH and that more people are using a Succy than before. That was about it....lol?

Oh well, I guess I could roll the lock and if I hate her by the time I reach my mage's level I could grab her instead...and if I don't like her by the time I catch up to my priest, I can grab her...

le sigh

@ the kind Mage who sent me the mail...thank you for taking your time to write up the pros and cons with the Mages now. I really appreciate it. I deleted the letter before I could respond by accident, so I wanted to thank you somehow. <3

So'm I.

Suffice to say (since it would take too long to post on them all) all of them are...Yes, afflock was nerfed (A STUPID change, imo), but it's still (again, my opinion) the best levelling spec..

My philosphy is: The objec isn't to NOT pull aggro when you kill stuff, it's to pull aggro when the outcome isn't in doubt.

Are you rolling on Perenolde?

I've leveled a Hunter to 85, and I can tell you that for one, they won't need you to heal them, so if you were thinking healing would be good as a support to your Hunter, don't worry about that.

I'd say that for leveling a priest, shadow spec is best and fast- and with a hunter, you could clear a zone in no time ;) It doesn't matter now since you can dual spec at 30 now for 10 gold ::grumble:: and if you were looking for a healing spec later on, disc and holy are both great.

I never got "into" my 'lock (sorry Archona!) but they do have a lot of DoTs, and having a pet helps. It just depends on if you want two classes with pets fighting side by side. I guess it would make the 3-4 player quests easier (if there are any)!

I kind of like my mage that I started- she's only level 37, and on a diff. server, and I would say best out of the three for CC, even though the other two have CC options as well. Squishy as hell, and you would draw tons of aggro leveling up because there is so much bursty damage to be had.

I really like my priest, as despite that I have other level 85s, I would still call this one my main. Hunters truly can hold their own if they know how to play their class, so any class really would be good to play with one. It just really depends on what you truly want to do. Priest - Versatility, Warlock - DoTs and pet, Mage - CC and bursts. They all have their ups and downs.

The Burning Crusade lowbie quests have NOT changed. The older zones have. There are some of the oldie goldies (like Lazy Peons), but for the most part, the quest lines have changed. Tauren are most similar to their original with some tweaks. I really like the Troll starting zone, and the Undead starter zone is pretty neat too. Anyway, that's my 200c. I don't claim to be leet or nothin, but this is just from my personal exp.

Thank you very much, Scored. That answered quite a bit of what I was wondering. I usually don't put so much thought into rolling an alt..but that is probably also why I have so many sitting here not level capped...hah. But again, with all of the changes, and minimum time, I really want to make the most of it.

I appreciate the input. It helped a lot.

/hugs

For what you want, it seems hard to look past what you have--a druid.

Druids are the only class that give you the option to do any of 4 roles and to do each one of them pretty well.

Druids are great tanks and heals, boomkin is currently top-5 dps in the game if you want ranged dps, and if you want to melee you can play feral.

But, to the 3 classes you listed, I'd choose priest. I have played all 3 to lvl 70 at least and my shadow priest is my main. They are a fun dps and even though their playstyle has been dumbed down a little bit, it is still MUCH more interesting than playing a mage and probably on-par with a lock.

Beyond that, if you want an option to dps or heal, priest is pretty much your only option from the classes you listed. The nice thing about priests is you can choose how you want to heal as your offspec--tank healing (disc) or raid heals (holy).

Anyway my 2c
