I'll be honest - I was going to try and cheese the system. I'm glad Blizz is being up front with the change, and really don't think it will make any difference in the long run.

:)

Same here, the thought occurred to me to try this a week or two ago when the patch rolled around, oh well ;)

i guess the old phrase "if you aren't cheating, then you aren't trying hard enough" holds true all too often in the gaming world.

Silly Geese, this is how it's been since the buyback was released. They're just now saying it XD

Why not just make items that got downgraded to justice or honor sell back for justice or honor after the patch? So people can still sell them back and get an item from the same teir/season without being able to cheat the system.

And this makes it so players are not being inconvenienced just because there happened to be a patch.

And the blue post above states "Items purchased within the two hour window before the release of 4.2 will lose their ability to be sold back to the vendor when the realms are brought down for maintenance" ... so I presume I'm just being picky & missing Bashiok's intended meaning, but that reads as if you can buy an item 3 hours before shutdown, log out & the item will still have it's standard 2 hour refund window when you log back in.

When he says "within the two hour window before the release of 4.2" he means the 2 hour refund window, not the actual 2 hours prior to the patch.

It's worded really poorly, but basically don't buy a refundable item before 4.2 with the expectation that you'll be able to sell it back afterwards.

The other thought for later down the road (if it is possible) that might be a more ellegant solution is to have them sell back as the new currency type.

So say you bought the above mentioned staff for Conquest, the change over happens now you can only get honor back when selling it.

With the release of 4.2 all Valor Points will be down-converted to Justice Points, and all Conquest Points will be down-converted to Honor Points. To curb the ability to sell items back to the vendors after the conversion for the higher currency, we’re instituting a new sellback policy for items purchased directly before currency down-conversions.

Items purchased within the two hour window before the release of 4.2 will lose their ability to be sold back to the vendor when the realms are brought down for maintenance. No refunds will be granted for items purchased during this time, either by the in-game vendors, or our support departments.

As an example, I buy the Vicious Gladiator's Battle Staff at 2:30 a.m. The servers come down for the release of 4.2 half an hour later. Normally I would still have an hour and a half after the servers return to sell the item back to the vendor. With this policy change though, upon logging in my item can no longer be sold back to the vendor.

This policy is only in effect for maintenances that include currency down-conversions, such as the release of 4.2. To ensure you don’t purchase the wrong item with the inability to sell it back, we recommend buying well before the final two hours so there’s time to change any incorrect purchases.

For more information on the down-conversion please refer to: http://us.battle.net/wow/en/blog/2880562

For those trying to find loop holes in wording of the post I'll fix it for you...

Items purchased before the release of 4.2 will lose their ability to be sold back to the vendor when the realms are brought down for maintenance.

I'm 99.999% sure this is the intent. All vendor items that have a CD will have that CD removed during the patch maintenance.

Feel free to correct me if I am wrong bashy ^^

What would happen if i purchase non-valor items, for example an heirloom; would it still be refundable?

I presume since the point is to avoid hoarding of any points (whether they are Conquest, Valor, Justice, or Honor), anything purchased with these would likely have their cooldowns removed... I also suspect this would probably have to apply to all items regardless of purchase currency to avoid further loopholes. So, in short, no I do not think non-valor items would still be refundable.

But people love exploiting things because it's fun. Go look on youtube and see how many exploiting and glitching videos there are for games.

was wondering how this was going to work. considered buying valor boots and seeing if they'd sell back after but honestly thought they'd just go to justice. not that it matters I wanted boots for an alt anyway. good forthought though bliz
